Hey all, this Thanksgiving I drove out to visit my grandparents. They live in the middle-of-nowhere hills of Northern California, off of the power and water grid at the end of an extremely long dirt road. They have solar panels and a generator for electricity, and a well they developed themselves, so its actually quite comfortable out there. All their neighbors are marijuana farmers, as basically the entire area's economy is based off of weed and you feel like you are visiting a different country.
Anyway, I took some pictures on the trip, and I was just going to post them up incase anyone liked them.
I have absolutely no training in photography, but I think I've got a decent eye for composition, and whatever I fuck up I can usually fix with my good Photoshopping skillz. I don't think I did anything too drastic with these, just tweaking levels and cropping mostly. I may have shooped out a turd on the lens a few times. The camera is a Nikon D40, entry level DSLR.

The sunrise is beautiful. I'm no photography expert, but these seem quite good for someone who doesn't do this often! Once again, the sunrise is breathtaking!

Only cost like ~$340, I got it when I was in high school after convincing my mom not to get another point-n-shoot for the "family camera". DSLR's just take such better pictures than the tiny crap cameras, and its really only like $50 more, plus much longer lifespan.
Its funny because a cheap Sony has like 15megapixels...this one is only 6.1 lol, thats plenty.

The definition is not important as long as you watch your pictures on your computer. But imagine you make an amazing picture, the best of your life and wanna make a big poster of it. You just can't

The sunrise is crazy beautiful. Did you actually get up for the sunrise?? Or are you just tricking us with a sunset

Amazing photography there, man! You definitely have a talent for it. The sunrise pictures with the mist were just breath-taking. I think that the mist really adds to the effect of the sunrise. =)

Surprisingly good. I'm quite impressed, especially since you said you don't have much prior experience. The close-ups of the leaves, frost and wood are very visually appealing.

I have a minor suggestion though, you might want to crop a little off the top. Just a little from the sky, the upper part seems a bit redundant imo. Superb shot anyway.
Keep it up, it's quite a rewarding hobby.

Also the images will be scaled on TL to fit fully in view, it only takes more for the uploader to see them correctly. It's strange, but I remember it happened to me when I made a blog some time ago. Everyone else sees them just fine.
