Is there are specific reason you want to shop for a laptop in Canada (in particular, in Alberta)?
Gaming laptops are typically $1000+, and plus if you buy something here won't you be taxed for it on your way home?
*edit: wings & beer all the way.

Yeah, there's no apparent reason actually, since I'll be there for the next month or so I think that it could be a good time to get one. Most of the stores in france don't have any(sold out >.>)and the only ones left are 1500+ euros.

As a french that live in Canada I usually had no problem using electronics in both countries, you must take caution though and read what kind of alimentation goes and adapt to both the different standards of plug shapes (la forme de la prise), and 220V vs 110V.
Often charger take both 220V or 110V (ask the vendor and check yourself on it) in this case you will only have to get an adapter for the shape.
As for what laptop to buy, I'm no expert but I would suggest you the one that have gaming series and are reknown for it. Avoid things like Dell, HP and such and go for better constructors like MSi, Asus etc. If you want something good enough though, 800+$ dollars might be something to think of (it isn't much for a good gaming laptop), below you might get something good enough now but that won't last for long. But all of this depends on your standard and the kind of games you want to play.

You should definitely check out Banff, if you are into skiing its even better, but a beautiful place either way.

Eat poutines and watch hockey games in Quebec!

@ rezoacken: I see, so I should check for the alimentation and everything should be ok. I mostly would like a laptop that can play SC2 with low/med/high quality, nothing crazy
@ Inkarnate: I'll check it out, since I enjoy and love skiing (though i suck :D) I'm sure i'll enjoy it.
@ Chill: I'm staying at my Aunt's house somewhere in Edmonton, not sure where exactly

I've been to just about every province. I used to live in Edmonton, it's great. I love the mall.
Since you're going to be in Alberta...
Come to BC! It's a lot warmer here than the rest of Canada. Vancouver is a really busy place, lots of shopping and a bunch of other touristy stuff to do.
Stay away from Saskatchewan, particularly Saskatoon. I used to live there too and it's like the butthole of Canada
Also I'd recommend going to Banff or Jasper, the mountains are really beautiful if you've never seen them before

dude you HAVE to go to banff... i'm from toronto but i still love that park it is awesome (although at this time of year it's starting to get cold). also i'm pretty sure big ticket items (like laptops) have a tax if you buy them here and bring them home. not sure though.

Most of BC is great; Vancouver, Victoria, the mountains, the lakes, Banff, Jasper, etc.
If you only can only spend your time in one province, make it BC.

I agree with all of this.
Edmonton and Calgary aren't particularly nice places to visit. Not the worst to live in, but not the best to visit. Banff and Jasper are must see's, West Ed mall is alright the first time, but really it's just a big mall :/. Definitely go to Vancouver, and if you can Vancouver Island. Victoria is such a nice place!
Remember to watch lots of Hockey games!

There's literally nothing unique to do in Calgary and Edmonton. WEM is a fucking mall, and the Calgary Tower is smaller than the office buildings next to it. Eat steak, go to Vinyl and any of the bars and 17th to drink. Take a girl to the zoo.
Outside of that, go to the mountains. Basically, stay in the mountains to do stuff and stay in Calgary to drink.

Welcome to Edmonton! It was minus 30-35Cish with the windchill last week, and plenty more of that to come lol
As for things to do, theres not much. I guess you could go check out the "Telus world of science" building, it has giant light shows and exhibits etc. Theres a street we have here during december thats called "candy cane lane". Its basically just a street with houses covered in christmas lights. If your staying for a month, it will definitely be on soon. There are these glass pyramids close to downtown, that have 4 different ecosystems in them for people to walk through and experience. They have a jungle and desert theme for 2 of the 4 with tons of trees ponds etc. Makes it seem real.
You could check out a hockey game at rexall place if you get a chance to. Tickets are not that much money, and its generally a fun time even if you dont know much about hockey. Other than that, im not too sure what else. Either way enjoy your stay.

Oi! Saskatoon ain't the asshole of Canada, that's Fort Mac. Slave Lake's the taint, and Regina is... I dunno, probably the ballsack.
Saskatoon's alright if you stay east of the river.
But the people recommending Banff and Jasper are right there, at least. Kananaskis is solid, too.

go to the mountains, ski until your faces freezes off. cause really, theres nothing here to do in calgary. our malls suck, its cold right now, our food sucks, however, our transit is cheap compared to other cities lol.
if you're passing through calgary, drop by banff and the hot springs there, or kananaskis and do a nice hike through the mountains and by upper and lower lake.

I think that's about all I can say, too.
I don't think there is anything fun to do in Canada in winter except skiiing because we got snow everywhere (well, not really, but meh).
