So my 2 (out of 3) dogs decided they like leaving the house, we do as much as we can to stop them, putting electric collars (like barking = shock ones except with a perimeter) to stop them from going out.
Unfortunately the little fuckers didnt let that stop them. This morning, my mom gets a call from the zoo in the neighbouring town. The dogs have been caught by the gendarmes (cops) because they broke in to the zoo and fucking killed 37 deers (not really deers but a similar animal) in 2 fucking days!
When the zookeepers tried to catch the little idiots (well...little...not really) they ran off, the male (a kind of German Shepherd + mix dog) was caught but the female was fucking trampled by buffalos....buffalos? anyways, the cops and the zoo have demanded that the male be put down and the female has to be, otherwise its just a long and painful death which is pointless. Of course when faced with 37 fucking deers killed we have no choice but to cave to the cops. So now we've lost 2 dogs, we probly have some fucking huge fine to pay to the cops AND we have to pay the zoo for the dead animals.
I thank god that our 3rd dog (a swiss shepherd dog) is always with us and never leaves the property (my house was once a farm...pretty big plot of land)
the worst part is that if it wasnt for that dumb female then the other one would never have left the property. and if it wasn't for the male, the female wouldn't have started killing animals.
This is pointless...I'm gonna put a warning (sad and somewhat disturbing content) at the top. Sorry TL, i just wanted to vent, hope that's ok
EDIT: the shock collars are not a continuous shock once the dogs leave the property, that doesnt exist. Normally it shocks the dog once when they get near the edge so they turn back.
Also, thanks for people saying they're sorry, thats kind.
EDIT #2: I'm not going to edit the message cuz it'll confuse people, but i was misinformed, the number of deers they killed was actually 21....which doesnt make it any better, just slighty more understandable
I'm not even sure how a dog would go about killing one deer.
I KNOW! wtf? i can understand them killing ONE deer! ONE! but fucking 37!? why the hell would they even kill 37!? seems like i had 2 serial killer dogs and i didnt even know them.
should have named them Dexter and Hannibal Lecter ffs.
I'm not even sure how a dog would go about killing one deer.
Well, there were two dogs and he said some type of small (dog-sized perhaps) deer.
Is there a news report on this? Seems like something the media would cover.
it just happened today, there might be a news report..i have no clue. and yes its a daim in french and its smaller than a deer. I don't know the name in english, sorry guys
Wait so if they just keep running and don't understand where the shock is coming from they'll keep getting shocked? No wonder they flipped and started killing shit. I don't wanna come off as harsh because your situation sucks but I've gotta think properly training them, getting an outside cage or fence or whatever would've prevented this ez. Of course that's in hindsight. Either way, losing a pet(s) always sucks regardless of circumstances, so I'm sorry.
Dogs are Canis lupus species. Canis lupus evolved to kill.
Shepherd dogs were bred to herd and guard sheep out of this species bred to kill. They are selected for strength and speed. They were not selected for timidness or for being a companion dog.
Almost no large dog was bred as a companion dog. Most are either for hunting or guarding or other similar tasks. These dogs have a lot of genes that make them kill no matter how nice they can act.
I hate it when I cycle/walk through the countryside and every once in a while a farm has this fence around it with a dog going absolutely batshit insane because it sees me and the territorial/guarding genes pump it full with adrenaline and make it go crazy. Ooh I wish there wasn't a fence and the poor dog would come at me so I can punish the stupidity.
But dogs aren't to blame. Human breeding programs are.
And yeah how is a dog going to figure out what it has to do to make those annoying shocks stop? Makes no sense. Didn't understand how it would work at first, but that is insane. So these dogs go crazy at being shocked and they run many kilometers. How the hell is the shocking ever going to stop?

u insane? if they get within 2 meters of the perimeter they get shocked. If they ignore that 1 shock, pass the perimeter and leave, they will only get a shock coming in again. but not a continuous shock. Its just a wire that is the perimeter, once they cross it the shocking is done

and fucking lol
Anyway shock collars and invisible fences don't work that way. And dogs know what they are. You set them up initially with flags surrounding the perimeter. Dogs learn fast that going near that area means a buzz. The collars we have give an audible warning first, giving our dogs time to move away. Our oldest figured out if she ran at top speed she could get through the field in the time between the warning tone and the zap, so we had to increase the width of the field to max. So dog approaches buried wire, hears tone. Dog continues, zap. Dog ignores it and keeps going? It can happen. Once past the wire, no more zap.
I'm laughing here trying to figure out how you think these things work. If the dog is miles away from home, how does the collar know to shock? You think its default is shock and it does so unless it is within range of some signal or something? Or it has a GPS and shocks if the dog is away from home? Amazing.
That sucks man, but If I were you I wouldn't get such big dogs unless in you can maintain and control them. My neighbour was once babysitting a friends pitbull. I was out in the back playing with my cat, I was only like 11. The guy was walking the Pitbull, he couldn't hold on the leash when it saw my cat. The Pitbull tore open the front of my cat and mangled him up before, me, my brother, my mom and dad ran away the pitbull with about 30 shots to its head with a metal shovel. When the Humane society came, they said we shouldn't have even tried, as Pitbulls have skulls like Steel.
Luckily our cat lived, and lived another healthy six years afterwards with only a slight odd step in his walk.
My point is, that dogs are a huge responsibility when they are of that size and force. and the pitbull had to be put down, because they weren't even legal in our city -_-

Should have dug into the dog instead of hitting it with a flat side. Shovel should be sharp enough to methodically chop at the neck and separate the head. Then you extract the cat.
And about the OP - I would love to read the news report, this will definitely make the local newspaper.

This.
It's hard to believe that they killed 37 deers, but if you think that they'd have done it in two days that could be possible. but i don't understand why they would do this wtf
I read this over and over, and yet I still cannot comprehend the entire process of two dogs breaking out, getting to zoo, and somehow killing 37 deer-like creatures over two days. Crazy.
The 37 deer is still remarkable, but considering that they were difficult to catch, with one eventually tangling with the buffalo that might be in a different "cage" or area, the zoo seems like it may not have the most well defined partitions between animals. I mean how did the dogs get into the deer section in the first place? I feel like the 37 deer may have been more caused by chaos caused by the dogs, the deer freaking out and maiming / killing themselves, running into walls or on top of each other into a moat in an effort to get away. Maybe the dogs themselves did aggressively kill one or two, or maybe the dogs themselves were scared and did so out of fear, but you simply don't hear about animals killing others simply for the sake of it, especially attacking a herd in an unfamiliar territory.
Anyway, still sorry for your loss, pretty unbelievable story. Its even crazy that they could get to a neighboring town that quickly, its not like they could've known where they were going. Huh.

Don't forget about the part where one of the dogs gets out of the deer pen, into the BUFFALO PIT and gets trampled to death!
This is rather shocking news. I know I'd feel horrible if my dog passed away. However, my first instinct after reading your blog, as a dog owner, is that you didn't properly train your dogs. The only person to blame here is you for your lack of discipline.
I understand that you're in a rural area but shouldn't your dogs be subservient to you? They heal at your side, they sit when told, don't maul 37 deer unless commanded, etc.
I hope I'm wrong and that this is just a total freak accident with your otherwise obedient dogs.
yea, MY dog is the one that stays in the property at all times and never attacks any animals. The other 2 dogs, one was a stray female that was clearly traumatized and the other was a dog i've known for bout 2 months and who's from a litter that was clearly fucked up as all his brothers are dead (put down for various reasons)
MY dog is in the kitchen right now sleeping, MY dog would herd those deer like creatures cuz hes weird like that (i've seen him herd sheep and horses....yeah)
anyways the stray we picked up, I always felt something was off about her and you could hardly discipline her cuz she would just get depressed and stop eating. The other one was adorable but dumb as fuck and no matter how many times you try to teach him shit, he wouldnt understand.
BTW the deer fence's base was a meter underground, so the dogs dug down to get under the fence with the clear intention to kill
I fail to understand why people still keep big dogs as pet, it's fortunate that they killed 37 deers and not 37 kids in the zoo. If you want a pet, choose a little cute puppy, a rabbit or better, a kitty. Big dogs must be restricted for the professionals only.

Small dogs are not even dogs, they like rats to me. If you are afraid of dogs don't get one.
no news articles as of yet, i checked. anyways it's a big property, we've had many attempts at robberies on the house, big dogs are necessary to stop people from getting in.
yes the dogs had previous agressive behavior towards animals but they stopped leaving the property once the perimeter was made better.
those dogs have never harmed a human or growled at a human so children were safe. There are 3 young children living here with their parents (rented out an apartment on the property) and they would play everyday with the dogs, the dogs are nice to people, not animals. How is that hard for someone to comprehend? if you dont understand that you've never owned a cat or dog before. Cats will rip mice to shreds, dogs will kill rabbits. but that doesnt mean they're mean, they're hunters, its in their genes. I don't understand what made them go on such a rampage tho.
The ignorance towards dogs in this thread saddens me . First off, OP, you know your dogs run away, build a fence. Second, a lot of big dogs are docile, friendly, and easy to train. It's usually the owners fault that a dog is aggressive towards humans.
the house hasnt been lived in for years, we've only just moved back and started fixing shit up. a fence was already there and we were repairing all the holes in it, guess we werent fast enough

to be clear here, my dogs werent agressive towards humans and my dogs werent ever beaten or mistreated. The problem is that one dog was used to be left totally alone in a pack setting with his brothers, his brothers were killed and he was left with our dogs.
now my dog kicked his ass and became the alpha, but he managed to infect(?) the female with his attitude towards other animals turning them into killers OF ANIMALS!

My local restaurant does though. Humans are animals too in the end, and humans do decide what to eat and what not. Sorry for your loss, those were young deer.

yes humans do decide what to eat and cannibalism requires you to kill a human to eat it and murder is illegal in all countries and to eat an already dead human that would violate desecration of a corpse which is also illegal in all countries. but guess what fruit fuck? many countries like canada, japan, ghana, indonesia and many other asian countries DO EAT DOG MEAT. and where is your local restaurant located? US? oh shit another case of americans thinking their laws are the rules of the world. fuck right off mate.
Full sized deer will absolutely kill dogs of any size. Even the fallow dear someone posted above looked capable of doing serious damage against dogs.
This is graphic and disturbing (deer trample dog to death):
I really don't believe 37 deer can be killed by two dogs without them putting up some kind of defense, trampling the dogs. Did you go out and see the carcasses? How do you know the zoo isn't extorting money from you? You should go and examine the bodies yourself before you pay a cent to the zoo.
Also, this is probably a good lesson not to house strays. Unless you're fucking Caesar Milan you probably have no idea how to rehabilitate dogs that have mental issues.

exactly my thoughts. lol
killing one deer would take up so much energy from the dogs, but 37... just so impossible. lol.
Dude that is so sad to hear. The number of deer sounds pretty ridiculous though lol I'd definitely ask for some sort of video footage or evidence to corroborate that sort of claim.
Also you should probably seek some legal advice if you are being fined or expected to pay to replace the animals at the zoo. I'm not sure how the law works in France but I'm assuming that in order for you guys to be subject to any sort of fines you would have to have demonstrated some sort of negligence. If you have your area fenced off / use shock collars then I doubt any reasonable court would hold you financially responsible for what happened.

Not to derail the thread but this is the third comment on that youtube video:
And this is why women are fucking inferior. Instead of yelling at it to stop pummeling your fucking animal, take affirmative action.
The situation is sad, I would feel horrible if this happened to me, but: Be glad it was deer and not something else man. Your own fault for not controlling your animals.

Indeed weird, that buffalo would have to be russian. Unless, of course, he watched the slaughter from the farthest corner of the zoo until the dogs got tired, and then ran out and scratched ones ass. But that would make no sense because a strong german dog would never die to a cowardly american buffalo. If the buffalo indeed was american, history did not repeat itself this time.
Be glad it was deer and not something else man. Your own fault for not controlling your animals.
Pack of dogs killed a 5-year-old versus 2 dogs escaped electric fence, located a zoo and performed an underground operation digging a tunnel at least two feet deep, entered different animal cages (apparently digging another tunnel) and killed 37 deer and died while relentlessly attacking some buffalo. AND all of this happened without zoo-keepers noticing anything. I think your story sucks, you're welcome.

Wow this thread is pure gold. The account of the tunneling operation and the video of the deer assault made it better and better.
On a completely unrelated note, sometimes I have groups of 2 or 3 fully grown deer wander into my parents' yard. I live in the States so these aren't some frail fallow deer or anything. Should I be worried about being trampled when my father asks me to drive them off the yard? All we have is a BB Gun and various gardening tools like a pickaxe and a hoe. Usually I just yell at the them repeatedly while walking towards them and they run away.

i live where there are lots of deer and when there are big ones i generally give them a lot of respect because i mean wild animals are wild and unpredictable

german shephards can jump an 8 ft fence ezpz. with the electric fences, when they get installed you are supposed to train the dogs so learn the shocks happen when they approach and cross the perimiter. the shock intensifies the closer // go across the perimiter but obviously the radio signals arnt super powerful so some dogs have been known to just truck through them.
with some dogs there are really no good option for retsraint other then having them on leash
ffs people it wasnt an electric fence. it's a perimeter that works with a collar! learn to read or something. when the dog gets within a certain distance of the line it gives a small shock, shocks repeat with more strength the closer the dog gets to the line.
AND 2 OF MY FUCKING PETS ARE DEAD SO YES IM FUCKING SURE THIS HAPPENED!
