After going through 3 interviews speaking with many heads of departments well over a month ago, i finally got accepted to work at Fry's electronics. That afternoon I took a drug test and filled out a little paper work and was told "see you next week."
After a few weeks of calling them asking the status of my application, i gave up. I kept getting the same answer "the paperwork hasn't gone through yet I'll call you 2marrow." Now probably about 45 days after being told I was going to be hired, I get a call to work starting monday.
My first concern is that I was being brought on as a temp seasonal worker. However, during my 3rd interview, the head boss said i specifically wasn't going to be brought on for that purpose, and that was a solid job. Since they called me almost a week before black friday, its sort of suspicious, I guess only time will tell.
Now in this waiting period, I recently became a coach at gosucoaching.com. I have had great success with my students and was being very flexible with scheduling. The only downside is having to re-arrange a work schedule and now coaching students. I guess this is a good problem, as I am a pretty big fan of money. I might also have to pick a race. While unemployed I had plenty of time to keep up rank wise with all 3 races(around top 25ish NA random players). But if my total gaming hours are slashed I am not sure if i can keep up. What do I do?
Anyways, just thought I would voice my excitement for this next stage in my life. I am also super excited about getting that employee discount!

I had a feeling it was just America...
Obviously low-rung workers must be held to higher standards than the management and ownership!

Might want to keep looking for another job for back up if your really going to need a steady income. Pretty sure your going to get laid off right after the year ends. Stores usually hire a load of temp help for the holidays; especially from Black Friday to Christmas.
Got a temp job with "the possibility of being hired full time worker" two days ago for Amazon. It pays $13/hr and am pretty much guaranteed 50 hours a week as mandatory overtime. But I know I'm going to be fired right after the year ends if not right before. They were hiring a bunch of people on the spot. Did skills test, drug test, interview, and got hired in under two hours as well as probably another 20 people that day. Really doubt they are going to need that many workers once the holidays end.

I work in an office and had to get drug tested. It's standard in America... People don't want druggies, it's that simple.

Yeah drug testing is pretty standard for anyjob I have seen here in america.

Yeah there was actually ALOT of competition. I didnt even go into a room, i just stood at the cash register. They used about 5 registers and interviewed prolly about 20ish people during my slot, the 3rd rounds had about 5-6 ppl in it, and it sounds like we all were pretty close to be hired.

Oh man, I thought it was Fry's Supermarket for a second.
Unfortunately, Fry's Electronics isn't available in a majority of states. I don't think I'd mind working there though.

Fry's Electronics is a notoriously bad place to work. Their operation is structured around their distrust for their employees. However, everyone's experience at any employer is different, and I hope you have a good one! And, congratulations on the new job!

I used to go to the Palo Alto Fry's like 2-3 times a month - I'm curious, any employee discount?
