If you fight multiple times you also get tossed. And look at most of the fights, no one gets seriously hurt in most instances and there is a general unspoken rule that the tough guys don't fight the star players, tho sometimes star players who don't really fight will go at it with someone.

Regular in that it happens, but not every game. Dropping the gloves and fighting is five minutes. You get two for roughing, which basically means being a douche and hitting people but not dropping the gloves to really fight. The clock stops in a fight. Just jumping someone who doesn't want to fight will result in extra penalties and usually an ejection for that player. There was an incident last week with this and the guy got tossed. You can also get an instigator if you go out of your way to start a fight... ie like charging across the ice at a dude who hit your teammate clean. You will rarely see a goon going after a star. It's part of THE CODE, which is a bunch of manly rules that were not written down because the toothless Canadians that thought them up were too busy playing hockey. Goons fight goons, stars fight stars. You don't fight a guy at the end of his shift. Once the fight goes down or refs come in, it is over. If you do something dumb on the ice, expect retribution--the game polices itself. If the game is getting chippy, goons will often fight to settle it back down MANLY
