What TL has done for me: beginning of a dream

Team Liquid has become my new google.com, I have it set to my homepage to make sure I never miss a good thread or PM. I've become accustomed to the community, the mods, and even have been becoming actively involved in the NYC LAN Tournaments/Parties.

But this Blog is so much more than how much I love this website, and I how it keeps me entertained for 20 minutes as I browse. It's about how it opened up SC2 to me, giving me the opportunity to grow very rapidly on ladder. The only time I ever played Broodwar was when I was in 7th grade and I played with the computer and rage quit when I would always lose to the first push.

At the time, I was done with all RTS games, ever, until I went to Blizzcon 08' and was given a beta key, which I used to get a key in the first phase of testing. I loved the game from the start, although a bronze league player sitting on about 5 wins and 60 losses, it was FUN.

Asking a friend how I can get better, he led me to Teamliquid. and upon the first night of reading a few strategy threads, I was in the top 20 in my division. I continued to float around there for the rest of the phase of testing, and coming here to see if I can get any more advice, eventually making an account sometime in phase 2.

As I grew and grew, a race switch later, I now sit at 1000 Diamond in about 2 months of serious play. But I also have a dream, Starcraft has changed my life. I noticed the dedication to the game people have, and how it effects them personally, especially after watching Day9's Daily #100.

This dream is something that I think a lot of people may have for a period of time, and then they lose interest as they find new things. Becoming a Professional Starcraft player.

It's something that just makes me burn with competitive play, and just overall happiness when I think of it. The love of this game, the spirit of competition, and the people involved are all things I want to be apart of. No were else have I found this feeling. I know it is what I'm going peruse, even if it takes 15 years, I want to play starcraft as a profession.

I am fully aware of the obstacles this may pop up, and how Diamond is nothing to be super proud of, but I really feel that I can do this.

Being only 16, I realize that I have a very long time to think about this, and with only 2 months of Sc2 play time, it's going to be a while until I can hold myself in a major tournament. But more so than that, my parents have never been happy with me playing games, ever. When I told them that I had won a tournament held by my WoW server, we had an argument over how I could have been studying instead.

I know I can do it. It's not a matter of "can I?" but rather a matter of time before I can truly have a few months to myself and straight up practice.

Thank you TeamLiquid, you've made me more happy than I could ever imagine. GL HF.

I'm pretty sure a lot of people have the 'I wanna be a programer! *fistpump* ' idea at some point (on tl). If you're really serious about it: go for it! Sc2 is still young and booming so now is the right time.

Xellos (a retired sc1 pro) once said his skill came from having to control his clicks silently enough (at 350 apm) so that his mom wouldn't wake up at night. And he was playing in the living room. 9 out of 10 progamers had difficult parents

Quoting Kibibit and I from NYC LANs: "WoW is lame!"

Anyway, congrats on getting to Diamond and being a part of this community.
Venture Capital is better off spent on lottery tickets rather than investing in E-Sports; you'll get a far better return. The difference is simple: Koreans are tryharding at the game, foreigners are tryharding in real-life.

You have to have a sweet name too! If your name isn't really cool you're not allowed to be a progamer
You make it sound like there's a correlation between what should happen and what actually happens. I mean, life is chaotic and it's often unfair. I know it is for me.

I gotta say that's a lot of progress you had in sc2. Congrats on that.

Also I'm glad this is all giving you such a positive outlook. I hear where you are coming from regarding your parents.

One of the most important things to learn in life is how to balance things you need to do with fun things you want to do. Neither extreme is correct. If you have the right goal you will be very successful in both endeavors I'm sure.

You're kidding right?

Anyway, you are only 16, its good to have a dream in life. Why dont you just keep playing more seeing if you can top your division, take part in some online tourney before making a full dedication to SC2 professional.
Many pro gamers only decide to go full time pro after a very successful online "run". You may already know this, but a life of a pro-gamer is harsh and need massive dedication.

Good blog! It takes alot of work to be able to go pro for any sort of video game, but at your age you can definitely do it. Best of luck to you!

Go for it :D best of luck. It warms my heart every time I see a blog about how much someone loves TL because I couldn't agree more! The rest of the internet is so cold BM but TL is always warm and nice.

TL's made me a bunch of good friends, and I think that part of TL's broader appeal is that everyone can get something suited to them out of it.
I enjoy Starcraft when I'm not too busy being dynamic and attractive.
