I got this tattoo last February, it was the first tattoo that I ever got and it reads "McAuley" my last name, from a distance and in the picture the "c" looks small. I would really like to get a cross, I'm just not sure what kind of cross I want. I'm Roman Catholic and in part it would be in memory of my grandmother who passed away some time ago, but I think about her often. Does anyone have any suggestions on style/designs? If so could you post them up?

I can't read it... I saw Marley (for some reason) and then Mauley
Anyway gl finding your next design
|
|
Mauley or Marley definitely
|
Why would someone get their second name tattooed on them?
|
The "c" being attached to the "A" makes it look funky.
And by funky I mean I wouldn't have known it said "McAuley" if it didn't say in your post.

It's a bad picture, I just didn't have the motivation to take another one hah. It looks pretty good though, the guy did good work. Why would I get my last name? It's a long story, but basically I'm the only male left to carry on the name kinda thing. My family is hugely important to me and I'm very proud of it.

Ah that makes sense.

I think you should look into getting a "Celtic cross". The way most of these style of crosses are tattooed with the little intertwining shapes inside the outline of the cross I think it will match the style of the letters in your first tattoo really well.
btw an interesting choice in your first tattoo to have all letters capitalized except the c. I would have personally only capitalized the M and the A.

I looked at that too, but I decided I liked the look of it all capitalized. The lower-case letters of some of them were tiny and didn't look good if it was made bigger.

Is it? I seen an episode today for the first time, and it gave me a headache because everyone was yelling at everyone else. Anyway.. any other shots of that cross?

hahahah Are you pretending that the Old E last name down the body and cross isn't a totally guido tattoo??

After looking up Guido on Wikipedia I would have to disagree; I'm not "italian-american". It seemed like the best spot to have it and my fiancee agreed. I've always wanted a cross for said reasons mentioned above. I'm not a huge fan of the tribal designed stuff, let alone an arm band.

It doesn't really mean italian american, it's a certain style, which that that and the cross will definitely be associated with...
All good if you like it and it makes you happy—always the most important thing in a tat—but yeah, just letting you know, that's the kind of stuff that you see on tribal armband people all over the Jersey Shore.
your best bet is to bring a cross or rosary that you like to the artist. there's a shitton on the web, and it's next to impossible to search for what you want, since they aren't really split up by religion for tats... it gives me all celtic crosses when I put roman catholic.

Maybe I could go with something from my hometown and get a Salmon tattoo? Just kidding... I dont want a tacky cross, I want something "beautiful"... It's hard to explain I guess. Why do they have their names and crosses on them? I honestly didn't know that.. or what a Guido was.. o_O
