Yay, nice blog post!

I also had a great time. There were times when the nerd rage in the room was intense, but overall I think everyone got along great! I saw lots of new people, and even though I'm horrid with names, I'm glad I got to meet a bunch of you!
I admire your commitment to being *very* oily

That said, I really wish I could have been there.

You haven't shown up to way too many LAN events around DC, ETT. You can't undo what you did. Even if we believe that you'll actually show up again in the future, that's not the point. You've burned your bridges too many times.

Don't expect to come to the DC meetups.

See how fun this is? ^^

Tbh it doesn't really matter whether he stays banned or not, there are many ways to contact him and he can still read TL to show up at lans.

Chris - piggybacking off what Jibba said, it's not so much the fact that cheated and 'reformed', because as you say yourself, we've had plenty of examples of other people who fit that bill and are generally accepted members of the community. It was more about the way he conducted himself, played everyone for a fool AFTER multiple chances to reform, and just the amount of ridiculous drama surrounding everything that has been associated with him.

That's my personal take on it. I haven't met him irl yet, maybe he's a nice guy, maybe he really has matured a lot and come a long way, good for him if he has. Doesn't mean the whole of TL will be forgiving though.

And SadistX - ^_^, except I don't ditch you guys out of malicious intent, just real life stuff combined with bad timing. For what it's worth, my wife actually really wants to come to the next meet just to meet everyone.

Was an amazing LAN! I hope maybe next time we can adopt a format that allows bo3 in the group stages (2-day LAN?!??!), because I super choked on some of my games However, given time constraints, I'm cool with the way things played out in the end.

Having little to no information on Lastshadows history (and frankly, not caring) I can say that he seems like a really nice guy and gives off a good first impression to those who've never met or heard of him before. That's about all I can say on the topic- I'll leave the real debate to those who are more knowledgeable about the situation.

Hope to see you all at MLG, though! DC fighting!

>:O How do we know its actually NOT real life stuff and you're dodging!!!!

I guess another thing that bothers me is how much ill-will is left for him in situations like, for example Kennigit and Brood saying that TL shouldn't be used to boost his SC2 career. When we regularly praise players like testie for messing around on SC2, Upmagic for the same, TT1 for signing on a pro team, I heard Haypro was an ex-cheater and look what team he's on. Other plays who have been accused of hacking or have hacked online, and never shown up to a LAN event in their life to perform. The list sorta can go on and on.

LS cheated and we don't like him, he's a great player but lets blacklist him.

Haypro cheated and we like him, lets sign him onto the most famous foreign team in the world and pay him $$$

That wasn't even sincere.

A little bit after he made that thread, he changed his sig to something, "rofl too easy..."

That shows the mark of a total douche who should never be allowed back after lying and playing with the hearts of the community. You can't ever trust someone like that.

That was almost 3 years ago, though What's the difference between giving him another chance and inviting him to make a smurf account? (in regards to the closing post in the apology thread)

If he made a smurf account, became a highly respected and contributing poster and his identity was eventually revealed, would the administration be more inclined to accept him?

I ask because I feel like, by reading the posts of those "in the know," his reputation has a kind of stigma attached to it that no person should be forced to live through. 3 years is long time to hold a grudge, wherein I almost feel more sorry for the individuals who are still irate at the sight of his name moreso than I feel sorry for lastshadow, himself.

I think the worst part about it is that everyone is trying to take a baseball bat to his burgeoning starcraft 2 career, doing whatever it takes to make sure he doesn't succeed, which is just a pretty messed up thing to do.

He was 15 at the time.

I can honestly say that the overwhelming majority of males in high school can be classified as douchebags at that age (~15-18) and have tendencies toward destructive behavior, and it would not be a lie.

It's unfortunate that he chose to channel his hormones into brood war, but to single him out like that is hypocrisy at best.

You make it sound like people are actively going after him. We simply don't want him posting here is all.

Hmm, that is true. But if we won't allow him to post, are we still allowed to post interviews of him, mention him in tournaments, etc.? lol. Is he banned from all TL Opens and those events too? Keep in mind everything he did was multiple years ago and in BW, you'd think with the release of SC2 would come some sort of ability to allow the best players to compete.

There is an official policy regarding punishment for people who've cheated in TL events (created AFTER the whole LS drama) floating around. To be honest, we've had former cheaters participate in events - usually they will contact us regarding their intentions, how they've changed, etc. and we take it on a case-by-case basis on whether or not to allow someone to participate again. To my (limited) knowledge, LS has never reached out to TL regarding this.

I see. Yeah I asked him yesterday if he would sign up for the TL Open but he said he was banned and couldn't sign up. Then I saw the interview of him-thread which was closed and one of the admins stated to not start up threads about cheaters, and not to help make them popular or anything =\

so I wrote up a massive post on my opinion about lastshadow and then realized my opinion probably doesn't matter at all, TL has given him his chances in the past and he's blown it. So I deleted the post and went away. And then realized I still needed to share my first "meeting" lastshadow story and my opinion on lastshadow anyway, regardless of if it matters or not.

The details of this are only known to three people, lastshadow, me, and an undisclosed tl member. It happened during a TL lan in DC in October of last year.

Before the lan though, like a week or two before, one afternoon right before I'm going to class my cell phone rings from an unknown number from rhode island. "Who do I know from rhode island?" I wondered as I answered the phone fully expecting a wrong number.

"Hello?"
"Hi rob? This is Nick aka lastshadow"
"uhhhhhh....what the..."
"haha this is lastshadow I got your number from joshua who's signed up to come to the october lan in a few weeks. I'm coming with him!"

here I'm like whoawhoawhoa wtfz is this srsly happening did lastshadow really just call me? before this phone conversation I had talked to lastshadow almost never. The only things I knew about him were the usual things an average TL member would know. That he's used rigged maps, he's hacked, that he once drove hours to slogs house to prove that he didn't hack only to promptly lose literally every game and leave the place in tears. That he's abused in TSL and has been super bm in tournaments. And that he takes vicious walkovers in wcg.

as all of this was running through my mind I'm just sitting there in stunned silence as he continues:
"I had a question, does the place allow to bring your own monitor? Cuz I was talking to Conan (superiorwolf) the other day and he said that lan center used some widescreen monitors."
"uhhhhhh yeah I guess....."
"ok great see you in a couple weeks then, I gotta sleep now so I can wake up to train during korean hours with my progamer friends."

as soon as I hung up I'm like wtf was that. Later I realized that phone convo was in perfect lastshadow style. The trademark lastshadow style of playing broodwar was a harassing surprising style. I'm like wow this kid lives his life like he plays the game, randomass surprising phone calls out of nowhere...ROFL. After I had some time to think about it I was questioning and debating with myself on even allowing him to participate in the first place but after talking to a few people (I can't mention them by name here) and considered he had recently attended a lan in new england with no problems and had been "clean" for essentially the past 3 years I didn't block him from coming. I do remember trying to text something like "Dude you're crazy" but he had called me originally from a land line (I didn't know) so it left a message on the answering machine and he called me back:

"Did you try to call me?"
and I was like god why does it feel so fkin weird to talk to lastshadow
"No I thought that was a cell number so I texted something."

So anyway after the crazyass phone convos he comes to the lan. Literally as he's walking into the lan center an undisclosed person who was in attendance for the lan as well says something along the lines of: "Hey I know you, your lastshadow I hear you were a huge cheater and hacker and abused to get A- is that true?" in a condescending/judgmental way. Lastshadow was obviously taken aback by this and was like "uhhh." didn't really respond and didn't really talk much to anyone the rest of the day. Sitting away from most people and just playing his games. Alot of people at the lan were also more interested in D level iccup antics than the tournament finals between louder and lastshadow which was not very respectful to the players and I remember it was annoying to me. I loved watching lastshadow play. He was such a fast and good/smart player. I talked to lastshadow, helped him figure out pc problems (I think his mouse cord was too short so I gave him an extra usb extension cable I happened to bring with me that day) and tried to generally be as welcoming as I could. The person I met that day was not a cheating hacking abusing devil that the majority of TL had told me. the person I met there was an ultra competitve highly skilled user who acted professionally all day, after losing to louder going to louder congratulating him, (even after losing to DT's in the last game, even I might not have done that) graciously accepting second place and thanking me for running the tournament.

That was the beginning of a very positive relationship that I've personally had with lastshadow still to this day obviously. Shortly after that I added lastshadow on facebook and got to know him a bit better. Realized he had a fairly difficult upbringing and was a fairly typical young adult with an obvious strange side. (Aren't we all strange in some ways? Isn't that what makes us all unique?) He came to another broodwar lan in July where he played very well, knocking out semih in semifinals. Immediately after beating semih he tried to approach semih who wouldn't even acknowledge him. He then lost to superiorwolf and was obviously crushed but also congratulated superiorwolf who was the champion.

He also obviously played in my tournament yesterday. And lost to me in the semifinals, where he also gg'd with a "well played" added on at the conclusion of game 5 (a pretty amazing best of 5 to be honest) hung around after and was very open in talking with everyone and totally respectful.

All I can say now is after personally getting to know lastshadow over the past year, how he treats himself during tournaments and live events that he attends is totally classy and that's how I ultimately judge him. I can't speak on behalf of his past or mistakes he's made or what TL thinks of him. Or how bm he might get during tournaments or what he says when loses big games online. He is simply an extremely competitive and dedicated individual who I am personally glad to have met. I personally consider him a very good friend of mine and he's always invited to tournaments and events that I organize. I will of course root for him in tournaments he plays in and support him but the majority I'm sure will not because of preconceived notions and years old history.
