10 points why I don't like what Blizzard is doing

Hi guys,
Welcome to my blog and I hope you enjoy it.
First off, I want to say that I'm gonna criticize Blizzard for various things. A lot of them are well known, but it's still nothing has been done yet.
Let's start...
1. Replays. We all have to log on bnet first before watching, so I think this is too much and pointless. Even cracked sc2 lets you watch replays, what is the reason behind this? I really don't get it guys. Moreover, you can't watch replays with your friends, which is possible to do in SC: BW. Blizzard should have got what is best from SC:BW or at least I believe so, which also leads me to the next point.
2. Chat channels. Although it's been announced that Blizzard will add them within the next patch, I think it took them too long to make this change. They're available in SC:BW, so why not in SC II? Yeah, the games are supposed not to be the same, but still this isn't the right direction in my opinion.
3. LAN. Now this is tricky because Blizzard claims the only reason there is no LAN is because of piracy. Ok, but in the end of the day, guess who is f*cked up - us, users. I might not be technically knowledgeable enough, but is there no way to kill two birds with one stone?
Servers are mostly stable, but there are days when they're down and if there's an event, you will have to wait then.
4. Ladder. If you're an X race player and want to learn other races as well, then Blizzard doesn't separate your solo played races. I think it's too costly that way unless you're in a way lower league. Instead, I think you should do 5 new qualifying rounds per race. Now this idea isn't exactly mine, so credits go to Kyandid: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=150511
5. Hack policy. Remember iCCup? They have an antihack that disconnects you in-game if you have loaded something that is 3rd party. Ok, so why doesn't Blizzard make something like this? We all have heard of hack/exploit cases like:
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=151132
Yet nothing stops hackers to do whatever they want. I really think Blizzard should take better measures.
6. Clan management. I think Blizzard has announced they'll make something like this in the future, but we all wait for this miracle. :D I think it's very useful after all and it may make SC II more competetive when this happens.
7. Region. While EU/US/Asia are available to be used in SC:BW at any time, this is not the case now. We're all region locked unless you buy a new copy of the game or you just decide to switch servers, but you'll still be able to use only one server.
8. Achievements. Aside from receiving cool icons and stuff, you have certain amount of points. This is alright, but I still think they're useless because you don't use them as credits or whatsoever to get anything. For example, campaign and custom games achievements... you don't even get icons.
9. Maps. Most of the time you'll have to play maps that are the most popular. I believe it's better in SC:BW because you can choose a map that you have already downloaded and host it to play it with friends. I know there are some "tricks" to make this possible through the map editor, but this is really unnecessary. It shouldn't be that way in my opinion.
10. Expansions. I don't like how (at least according to rumors) Blizzard will make everyone buy every next expansion in order to play multi player again when each of them is released. I, for example, don't want to play HotS campaign although I might be curious about the story. Still $60 for single player + a few units isn't worthwhile imho.
Another point is: if we get used to WoL strategies, every next expansion will probably totally change playing when new units are added. Now don't get me wrong, but look it this way: we may not expect "stable" play until all expansions are released because we can't figure SC II out sooner than that.

That's it as of now. English is not my native language, so if you don't understand something, let me know in order to fix it. I just felt like going to write today.
Also, this is my view about the current situation, some of you may not agree with me but this is how things are for me.
Thank you for reading and have a nice day.

Yeah I agree with a lot of your points, if not all. To clarify, you can watch replays outside of Battle.Net. If your internet is disconnected and you try to log in, you'll go into "offline mode" and you'll only be able to do single player and watch replays.

Your tenth point, I totally agree with.

I just wanted to buy the main game and start playing online. I never wanted to buy the other expansions until I found out I have to in order to play online. Sucks.

I think his 10th point is rather silly. The majority of games have expansion packs added on later, including the original starcraft, and warcraft 3. The new units caused the game to change, which actually made it more balanced in the end. I dont think it will be difficult to afford a $30-40 expansion pack every 2 years, that adds new depth and playability to both single and multiplayer. If anything, it should excite you.

is there anything in relation to sc2 you did not just complain about? x.X i think you missed the single player campaign and race balance.

honestly, if you don't like 90% of the stuff related to the game, consider just not playing it Oo i don't want to step on your toes or something, but it seems to me like you get mostly just upset from playing sc2. If that was the case for me i would not want to play it, which is probably the "healthier" alternative in such a case.

I think it's more like he was a part of a great thing (the Starcraft bw scene)... And with SC2 this season dies alot. And dislikes the new scene. I myself am on that boat, and I agree with alot of points.

It's hard to say that a company of a caliber like Blizzard is making wrong choices, I mean they should know more than you. But I don't feel they are using the right reasoning.

I myself am slowly losing interest in starcraft... Just because of the realease of SC2. If you have been a BW fan for a year I'd know you can't compare the 2 games spectating wise, bw is miles ahead right now, but ofcourse this is a sc forum so saying that might not be a good idea. Anyways.

I expected a pointless rage thread, but I actually agree with a lot of your points.

In regards to chat channels, LAN, and region, I know that Blizzard is doing their best, and they have no obligation to tell their players what's going on behind the scenes. I trust that they are making the best decisions based on their situation.

I do agree that Blizzard needs to step up in antihack. I've been playing in the Alienware Arena tournament and they have their own background client that detects hacks. All Blizzard needs to do is ask Dell if they can implement it into the game in return for advertising or something.

I am in strong agreement that expansions should not be mandatory. If there are new units added, then let the new units be played with the old version. There still needs to be incentive for people to buy the expansion, and that can be achieved through a good campaign, new achievements, and new maps available just for people who get the expansion. Otherwise, the expansion should cost somewhere around 30-40. I cannot justify to myself paying 180 for sc2 over 2 expansions.

foolish one, that'd make sense if you couldn't play sc by itself, which you can play vanilla sc/diablo/diablo II/wc/wc2/etc. all without the expansion packs. The rumor is that you have to buy HotS to even play the WoL multiplayer, which would mean you would have to buy both starcraft and broodwar just to play with vanilla sc units.

Back then there was no ESPORTS. Now Blizzard are trying to push Wings Of Liberty as an ESPORT, as well as intenting to completely fuck the metagame after a year

Issue with 2nd part of 10th point:

I see what you're saying but by that time the game will be understood a lot better than it is now, that's obvious. With the addition of a couple new units it's not like it's going to completely drastically change everything about the game. It's not like there's going to be a unit that turns the game in to an FPS or an RPG. It's still going to be an RTS game with new units that will take a bit of time to get comfortable with and everyone will eventually and rather easily integrate them in to their play.

It's like back in SC I still played SC1 when BW came out and it took me about a year or two to switch over, and then when I did I was like OMG LURKERS/DT'S?! and I continued to play SC1 until I finally bit the bullet and started playing BW. If you think that this is the way that you're going to approach the expansions please keep in mind that I was 14 years old.
Doubt is the venom that has paralyzed humanity.

You can, the way you can play Reign Of Chaos or StarCraft Original online

@AdamFox, please read my post to see the (possible) reasoning behind the OPs view. You can't say "Here is this, it is going to be huge, there are a lot of tournaments so start figuring out the game, and dont worry, we'll bring new content, like fucking up everything you know about the game with new units, so that you can have more fun".

That is not the way to go. This is demolishing the state of the game. People will have to start from scrach again and again with every new expansion.

And yes, it is going to make a drastical change. What had been the standart TvZ build? MnM, what is the standart mid game unit mixture from zerg? Lurker/Ling. What is the standart PvZ build? Forge FE with fast Corsair for scouting. I hope you get my point

There are just tons of little issues with bnet 2.0 that are annoying. One of the smaller ones today was the fact that when obs'ing a game and set as a "Referee" you can't switch between to all and to just spectators without manually holding down shift/ctrl which gets annoying. Another example of bnet 1.0>bnet .5

meh i like the fact that you can just hop on sc2 and play a game within 30 seconds
in brood war it's like

blank screen
outdated games in list
can't fill up game
games are all 3v3 hunters/fastest map (no low money)

oh and you do realise there weren't replays when starcraft 1 came out right? they came later in a PATCH

Yeah, but SC2 came *after* SC1... you'd think they could do replays perfectly with all this experience.

Because everyone's playing on iccup.

And yes replays were not implemented in SC when it came out. Is that an excuse to make replays annoying as hell in SC2 ? (have to connect bnet + cant watch with friends)

SC2 came out 12 years later, they could only have improved what was existing before. Instead, they removed chat channels, remove LAN for whatever reason (i dont think Blizz is honest about why they don't support LAN). But they added Facebook integration T_T Great.

They really took a step backward.

Yeah, it's mind boggling why the new battle.net don't have chat channels. I mean yeah okay you want to control your game, make login into battle.net compulsory but what is the freaking point of giving people facebook integration but not chat channel?

Did someone in blizzard suddenly decided that we have have facebook? I for one hated facebook and don't maintain my account and even if i did i wouldn't have gaming friends on there.

Acutally I disagree with point 10 in a way, because I think new units and such will open up alot of new ways to play and cool new stuff.

#10 will probably function the way all previous games have; you'll be able to continue playing versus SC2:WoL players only, but not SC2:HotS and so on. This is how it should be.
