UPDATE: Things aren't working out well and the stream setup is messed up for me... so for the moment, I will postpone this and will bump this blog when I can make sure my mic works (since that's the main problem) as well as everything else. So for now, the test pilot episode has been POSTPONED until further notice!

Hey TL,

Before I start off my real point, I'm going to tell a little story..so if you don't want to read, don't click spoiler and follow along onto the next part.

+ Show Spoiler +
So on my last blog, I have stated that I would surely start this initiative of creating a Korean webcast class on TL during every Sundays in hopes to increase the Korean culture and knowledge and language among all of you and the average TLer. I have not forgotten that promise and decided that I am still up for it despite my TERRIBLE TERRIBLE weekly schedule that I forced upon myself for the next 3 months:

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Basically this shows that on Mondays and Wednesdays, I gotta wake up at 6:30 (1.5 hour to get ready, 1.5 to drive to school), then leave at 9:30 and drive another 1.5 hours to go back home. Not so bad right?

But what about on Tuesdays and Thursdays night? I go to school by driving (1.5 hour ride), park, go to class. I finish my class at 5, have to somehow to get my internship in an hour of NYC Subway ride which will take about 55 minutes to an hour and 15, internship till 10 (if I'm late, I'll make up time to stay a little later..), take an hour and half back to school (off-peak hours so less subway) which is like 11:30 PM, then drive 1.5 hours back home (1 AM?) and somehow sleep and wake up in time for next following day which starts 9:30 or 9 respectively. I don't know about you but only a machine can survive this sort of schedule...

So basically, how the hell am I going to prepare myself to do this, my radio show, be president of student productions club, take 4 class, and commit 16 hours of internship + work on saturdays and church on sundays... I have no clue since I only get to start this drama next week so I'll fill you on that possibly on my next blog...

I just wanted to show you what I'm like in real world for all you non-believers (and why I can't get a job aside from this who all told me to get a job... seriously..). So now to the main point. I have finally brought a webcam more expensive than I thought and got almost all equipment to set up a webcast show for ya. So before I begin my official first episode (which btw, 90% likely it starts 9/5 instead of 8/30), I'll have a test pilot EPISODE 0 to see if I can really do this and overcome my nervous/shyness to cast a show.

The stream will be on this Sunday at the regular schedule time I stated for the regular episodes at 8:30 9:30 PM to 10:30 PM (though depends on situation of that day). Most likely I will NOT teach Korean this day, but go over like a game or two that was played recently and analyze them from the Korean view perspective sorta like Day9ish style except I'll follow along with what commentators said on that game and relay that to you in English. I'll do some other introductions if I do anything else and rules, purposes, etc. Just a test and basically going over what you'll expect... so some popcorn may be necessary.

So copied from my last blog, the rundown of this class:

+ Show Spoiler +
Expected starting date: August 30? September 5th for first episode (100% likely atm)
Expected day to run per week: Sundays (90% likely)
Expected time of the show: Evenings around 8 or 9 PM and last an hour or two in EASTERN STANDARD TIME 8:30 to 10 PM EST for now (80% likely)
Expected ethnicity background of the teacher: Korean (100%!!!) 150%!!!!

Purpose of the class:
This class is a supplement and not meant to be the sole resource to learn Korean. It’s nice to refresh and use as supporting device in order to learn Korean. But since you probably won’t (or use) time to learn Korean by your own, you won’t get gain much. But I’ll try to at least help you understand the basic level of Korean, and also at least motivate you to learn Korean by yourself when you graduate from my class.

Some reasons why you would want to learn Korean:
1. To understand Korean commentaries more in SC games
2. To understand the Korean style/language/nature of the commentary.
3. To understand the Korean mindset/thought process/culture seen in SC matches and also when meeting an actual Korean.
4. To score a Korean girl.
5. YOU CAN TALK TO CHILL!

QS’s personal goals:
1. Increase the general knowledge of Korean on TL at least by 1%
2. Have at least 50% of TLers knowing how to say/write their name in Korean
3. Have at least 5 people who can become as 1/4 good as I am in Korean.

5 Points of Korean language into real world:
1. Food
2. Name
3. Girl
4. Starcraft
5. Soju

Equipment to invest and buy for me to start teaching:
1. Voice set (Check!) - 10 dollars
2. Korean keyboard (Check!) - 10 dollars in Korea
3. Dual monitor (Check Just realized yesterday, my desktop can't support dual monitor )
4. Head set (Check!) - 5 dollar earphone
5. Webcam CHECK! - Logitech Webcam C260
6. White board or dry erase board + related materials (Still required but won't need for episode 0 I think.. and waiting for cheaper price)

Note regarding equipment: I'm spending my own money so I'm going to buy and invest in the cheapest items I can find until further notice. Currently, all the ones I have with me are VERY cheap like this 10 dollar voice set, a 5 dollar headphones, and Korean keyboard I brought for 10 dollars when I was at Korea a year ago... So expect the class to be VERY CHEAP ORIENTATED! (Because it's free)

So I figured since this is technically unofficial show for the moment since I'm going to test episode to see how I can do and go from there, it's optional for you to come and watch me or not. But note that you won't start learning Korean on this day. Just some tests to get myself started. I'll give an update when I start this on Sunday night on this blog by crossing out everything and spoiling all and just put a link above all so you know it started. For any questions, comments, suggestions (like what particular VOD you want me to go over), etc etc, please say it here on this blog!

So now I got that straighten out, LET'S DO THIS! WOOT!

Edit #2: Really, one star again? Who the hell gives me an instant one star whenever I make a blog. God, if I quit doing this class, it'll be all because of you mr." I'll-1-star-every-blog-QS-make..." a big F and U to you. Rageeeeee......

Well, basically like I stated in the purpose of the class, if you really want to learn Korean, you need to find your own way to learn Korean and my class will be just a refresher or a support side class besides your main class of learning Korean which is by your own way.

So if you supplement it with the help of your korean friends, an actual real korean class, or some other things besides just simply taking my class and assume you'll learn, I think you'll be good to go. But I strongly do not recommend to just take my class only and expect to learn much if you are really serious about learning.

Who gives a fuck about blog ratings. Just do what you like to do and let the people who appreciate it tell you that they do. That in itself should be enough.

PS- This does sound like a cool idea. Good luck.

BUMPPPPPPPPPPPP, im currently cleaning my room, setting up computer and replacing my monitor with a wide screen one as well as figuring how the hell the webcam i brought works... should be all good to go and stream if i put my mind at work for the next 2-3 hours.

do you think it'll be good for me?

im a korean american whos not excellent at korean but not terrible either.

i can understand korean commentators around 80%, and i have no need for english commentating. but i do want to improve in korean and become a fluent speaker.

ah and i know enough to hold a basic conversation and get around/live in korea pretty easily

I'm Korean American as well who isn't excellent at Korean nor terrible like you. I understand Korean commentators like around 80%ish and want to improve Korean as well.

So basically, yes, you're practically me since what you describe yourself is me. However, if you know me, you should know that teaching Korean that's the most basic that you know of can be learning to yourself for the basics that will be a huge help to move on to advanced levels. Not to mention, you also improve communication skills if you go thru this (well me..).

So my suggestion is this, wanna be my co-host and teach Korean together then? We'll teach the basics we both know and start to learn the advanced ones we want to learn together. How about it?

ahh i think you overrate me haha.
im one of those people that learned korean from just speaking with parents and watching dramas and such.
For example, I'm still confused whether 재미있겠다 is the only correct way to say that phrase or if 재밌겠다 is right as well. heard from a few that the former is the only correct way, my parents say that the latter works as well.
my spelling is pretty bad because I never went to korean school or anything, grammar is a bit off too. composing sentences in general are pretty tough for me.
Koreans on iccup/asia often correct me when I make mistakes when talking with them.
vocab knowledge is pretty low as well.. have to use dictionary alot haha.

오늘은 구경해볼게요. 가르쳐고십도 실력이 좀 부족한거같아요 ㅜㅜ. 잘하길바랍니다~
definitely made a few mistakes in that sentence haha. sounds a bit awkward too.

but yea ill just observe for now... im willing to help in anyway possible though, im definitely not confident in my korean to teach o.o

Well, with the exception of taking 4 Korean courses in past at an university few years ago, I'm basically like you where nowadays, I learn Korean by speaking to my parents and watching dramas and Korean TV shows...

But it seems to me that I could use some help to you then in terms of grammar, spelling, etc. I know the basic to intermediate level so you should definitely try to tune in..

UPDATE:
I'm still updating my equipment (just installed a new monitor and this Korean keyboard that feels definitely different than the default compaq one...) but need to figure out the webcam now... I injured my finger while trying to open a webcam (curse you mail opener cutter) so I might air the show a little later than usual. But I'm still working on it so hope to get this up and running by 9 PM!

BUMP update:

Apparently, something is off atm with my settings and it's taking a while to fix. I remember when I first set up livestream, it took couple of hours to do so... it seems the case here... really tempted to convert to camtasia but I really want to use procaster for this and I'm not getting audio correctly... sighs... I'll try to work on it for a little bit and if I can't do it, I'll ragequit and postpone the test run...

Found these threads and currently reading them to figure things out:
