Personally, I think it's speed. I think the amount of posts per minute has increased because of a large influx, which in turn, makes individual posts seem insignificant. Threads in the Starcraft 2 forum just up in post numbers almost the minute after they're posted.
This makes it more difficult for certain people to discern good posts from bad as they have to scroll through a lot of different posts.
This is different from before when I felt that the response time between posts were slower there was less amount of people focused on a specific event.

Maybe it's just that month in the year where the forums are dull and boring. Or maybe like Chill said we're just growing older. I've been around since about 2005/2006 but definitely before YoHwan first announced his draft from the military.
Personally, I don't find any of the five topics in the general forum very interesting.
German parliament having… Stem Cell regulation tem… Odd but good movies? Business class taught us… Cruiser catches 100 mph …
I take that back, TL is still a great place to find interesting news articles. Every day I click on something that belongs in blogs, but it soon gets relegated there. I just don't know, none of the general articles are something that I can really debate about. Like I can read the article, and then choose either to post a one-liner or just find another thread.
I liked the article where people got to debate about whether or not the word "rape" should be used in gaming. Then it got closed :/. Other threads like the one where you posted strange animals were cool, but they lost steam within a few days and died. I think these threads really does have to do with how tightknit the community is. Like a well knit community could create one epic thread because it focuses the community, but a large one dilutes the epicness? Does that make sense?
Again, this could be rose tinted glasses. Maybe epic threads are only supposed to be once a month.
I find that I spend more time now watching vods than reading the forums these days.

super old TL is absolutely horrible, but a few years after that I think was pretty good.
I still think it's inevitable for a forum to become filled with both chaff and crap once there's so many members, most other forums I've seen that are this large have the same symptoms.

The whole reason that I can think off on top of my head is that TL is growing. There's so much growth hormones happening here on TL that the website itself have undergo the big step in its life - puberty. Starting with size, length, treads, etc, adjustments need to follow to make sure TL's rapid sudden growth become steady and correct. That's why TL 2.0 came, that's why the sub-bars came, and new forums popping out (though not enough...), banlings, etc. That being said, the brains of TL (mods) have yet to came up the ideal solution to follow thru and manage the body of TL, seeing how puberty itself is unpredictable.....

'Old' ( it's a relative term, right) Tl had more Moltke awesomeness . Aside form that the content from the contributers is very very good ( the featured articles on TL are on another plane compared to other gaming websites). The general user's contributed content though is imho getting worse than it was in the last years of broodwar since the old BW userbase was older i'd guess than the much bigger new one. I know that the majority were always (that is in the last 2-3 years) common posters (like me) with untought out opinions contributing a derail at best but the naivete has increased much more than i would perceive it to do because of maturing myself.

I've been around since 2004-05 on different names, the quality of my posts went up a lot (even considering I still often post garbage). I even remember the times where I couldn't post much because I didn't know enough English. I was nuked quite a number of times, I don't think I was ever malicious, just trolled some people more than it was allowed. So I noticed this trend - even though I'm a better poster now, I still get banned almost as often. The standards are WAY higher than they used to be, that's for sure. And if you actually go through the old threads you will notice how almost half of the posters that used to define TL crowd in 04-08 were eventually perm banned. This place is really something else, I don't know any other forum nearly as addictive.

I haven't been here for a while, but I think this community is pretty awesome. Yeah, we have poo-poo threads with balance changes and stupid posters, but this is inevitable in a large community. I'm impressed that the community can stay this big without evolving into HoN forums, Bnet forums, ect. Sure, it may not be close-knit as it was in the earlier years, but I'm pretty glad that this is a large community. It makes me feel as if we have an impact on the Starcraft world instead of a few people just busting a chill and talking about Starcraft.
Also, I find that the quality is actually increasing. Most of the trolls are banned and people who want to troll realize they won't get too far. The balance threads are thinning out. (a few weeks ago it was so much worse) And now we have a decent number of nice, big threads with a lot of content and discussion. Another great thing is that the forums can still have joke threads without people flaming and mods eventually having to close it.
I'm really impressed and I would like to thank all of the admins, banlings, coders, writers, and everyone who is a major contribute to this site...you guys are excellent.

Old TL is much worse than new TL. Modern TL users address each other more respectfully and the forum is moderated better; You are just remembering it how you remember it and not how it actually was. I agree with this, because I myself experience the same sensations. I'm older than you too :p
Umm dito and I am older than all of you except that Ozark man some Md or Physician I forgot it must be because of Entropy or something.

Regardless of the influx of new posters, teamliquid has always been what I have considered to be the most "civilized" community... After being a member of a certain hacking community in 2005... the quality of posting on teamliquid seems amazing to me.
