so my friends invited me last moment to go clubbing with them tomorrow, and the only button up shirts i have are flannel or white dress shirts. i sure as hell dont want to go in there looking like im ready for an interview in a dress shirt, so would it be too casual to wear flannel or do i need to go out and buy a more casual dress shirt?

thanks

edit - heres a link to the club website : http://www.belosandiego.com/

dress in what makes you feel comfortable in. if you're going to psyche yourself out over whether others are going to be going 'omg, that dude is wearing flannel. OSTRACIZE!' you're doing yourself a big disfavor.

have mad confidence in yourself yo

Not sure if it helps your situation - years ago I went to some kind of a school dance wearing a suit and a tie, wasn't aware of what the gathering was about. I ended up taking a few shots of vodka for the first time in my life and dancing to Prodigy while sweating profusely in my nerd gear (I did take off the tie though). Didn't hurt me a lot besides some girls asking if it was my first time dancing.

I'm sure it would be fine. Depends on the club but you could get away with jeans and a t-shirt in a lot of clubs.

Agreed, my point was it's hard to embarrass yourself even if you are dressed completely silly because most people just don't care. I'm sure I've seen many dudes wearing dress shirts at clubs, most guys don't even dance.

Depends, how old are you?

Also I would strongly advise against flannel or you're gonna sweat your balls off. If you have no other button ups do you have any polos you could wear?

Wow, look at the dress code: http://www.belosandiego.com/index.php/other-links/dress-code

I wouldn't be able to get in if I wanted to.

What is this: "no head, neck or gang related tattoos" - will they not let someone famous in? This sounds like such a douche club.

I'm 19 also and hit up 1-2 clubs every week. Normally, I wear a button up or polo, but you can most definitely get away with a nice t-shirt if you want. Jeans are fine too, even though I like to wear shorts in the summer because like I said it gets really hot in clubs, especially if you like to dance.

In fact I'm going to college night at the local club in my area tomorrow night

Ok nevermind I just read the club dress code (which is a bit ridiculous I might add). I guess just try to follow that to the best of your abilities.

The clubs I frequent are pretty classy, although I've been to some shady places too, but nowhere near the extent of having a list of what you can/can't wear.

Have to agree with this
Sound's like a club full of rich yuppies that will be anything but casual or enjoyable.
If you can't just wear what makes you feel like you look good then don't bother going imo because it seems like this place sucks (i mean that dress code rules out 90% of anyone's wardrobe and who the hell goes dancing in a suit and tie? Or even in slacks? WHO goes to this place?)

It's the club scene. A scene where "hiding shit" (you know, weed, ecstasy, mushrooms, who even knows what else) is pretty much encouraged. Seriously seems like the most uptight place i've ever heard of. Let me guess, rhythmically moving your body in any way other than a classical waltz is also banned there?

Meh, I'm from Northern Michigan, there's not really too many people trying to conceal stuff haha.

Also they don't just ban it because of that, they want people to look good so their club gets a good rep and attracts more people and more money. I mean all the people complaining about this club's dress code, I'll admit it is a bit ridiculous, but do you want to go to a club where there's all kinds of gangsters wearing baggy clothes and shit? Generally, when I go out I wanna look good anyways. T-shirts are fine for everyday stuff, but having a few nice shirts never killed anyone.

Don't go to the uptight shit club.

Unless you are into overly formal clique douchebags and boring rich people who can't think of anything to do.

fuck that shit, I won't go anywhere with a dress code except under duress...have a nice casual party and actually enjoy yourself.
In Hungry Hungry Hippos there are no such constraints—one can constantly attempt to collect marbles with one’s hippo, limited only by one’s hippo-levering capabilities.

dress codes like that are reaaally common. I've been to bars and clubs that say things like, no basketball shorts, no tennis shoes, no jerseys, no baseball hats.

A lot of clubs have dress codes. Many of them are similar to that. However, notice the bottom says compliance of dress code is up to the doorman. Mostly, this means they will just use the dress code to refuse entry to people they dont like, dont fit the profile of the image they want, etc etc etc.

I don't know of many (read any) places that actually enforce a dress code like the one posted. Its just a tool for them to refuse entry to people should they wish to.

And there are a lot of clubs here in DC and Bmore

Flanel should be fine, as long as your uniform is more-or-less co-ordinated and doesn't horribly conflict. I've gotten away with flanel at a club with a dress code.

One thing I've never bothered asking is why they don't like plain T's. Just too boring was my guess.

Exactly what I wanted to say.

Also I personally wouldn't recommend the flanel. It will start to annoy you pretty soon because the material just isn't very suited for clubbing.

If you have to choose between the flanel and the white I would always wear the white.
Roll up the sleaves, don't button the top button and try to wear the collar not to stiff.

You should be fine and looking good.

Heh, that's the same thing recommended for the flanel shirt. Looks damn good.

Dont wear flannel to a club dude. that shits just not on. As other people have said just wear the white, rolled up sleeves, untucked, not fully buttoned up, wear some jeans with it, and voila. it looks good.

yeah this is a club not a random bar, i would go with the dress shirt. even if you're a bit overdressed it's better than underdressed.

i don't get the point of these fancy clubs though, you can grind on girls at a shitty club too...

I like how you act like those are your only two options. Like 50% of men in clubs are just in tshirts.

Ultimately, it probably doesn't matter.

If you have a t-shirt that fits and have some decent patterns, I'd wear that.

Only because it goes nicely with your klan robe.

And wear whatever you can pull off. If you can rock the flannel with confidence it will be better because you won't look like the average d-bag there.
And guys it seems like a pretty standard dress code for a decent club...they don't want a bunch of people rolling in looking like they just got off work or out of the gym, there are bars for that.

Clubs don't allow baggy/oversized stuff and plain t's because it looks like shit and it's typically worn by gangsters or wanna bes.

I hate it when they dun allow sneakers/sport shoes... I mean seriously... it's a club, and if you're going there to dance for several hours it'd be nice if yo feet are in something super comfortable for moving around. It's not like all sneakers look like shit, a pair of new clean ones can look pretty decent.

that's BS. if they're new-ish and clean, and match your general clothing scheme they look just fine.

edit: I guess it also depends on whether you think wearing jeans is acceptable...

I mean if it's black-tie dresscode occasion, I'm obviously not arguing in favor of sneakers, but we're talking about a club here.

I wear sneakers in winter, I will never go to a club that doesn't allow sneakers.

A burn on me that only me, who lives in Howell, will understand. I like it.
