Hi guys, so I got a call today from someone saying he's from Blizzard entertainment. He told me I won a random draw for the chance to purchase tickets to the charity dinner event which includes the tickets to the blizzcon in 2010. I'm wondering if anyone else I got this call, and is this worth going to?

(The tickets are $500 each and I might go with my gf... but $500 each...:/)

During the charity dinner you get to talk to all the devs and you get a very good loot bag. The dinner happens right around blizzcon time so you can attend both events. Last year the dinner sold out.

the $500 goes toward

charity
dinner
loot bag
blizzcon tickets
meeting Blizzard devs

So it could be worth it to some people. Not to me though.

Yeah, at first glance it sounded like a scam, but if it's not it could be fun, but 500 a piece is pretty pricey.

I don't know, if you want to go to blizzcon use the money to go to Blizzcon. If you want to give to charity, give the money to the charity you want. Why do you need a middleman?

Since the tickets are valued at $150, you're really paying $350 to go to a nice dinner with Blizzard staff then? Makes it sound a little better but I still think it's kind of steep. But if you wanted to go to blizzcon and couldn't get tickets, this seems alright considering the tickets were going for around $300+ on ebay.

wow, that seems fucking ridiculous to me, lol
do they already have tabs on which customers are rich or something?
if blizzard called me and asked me if i wanted to pay $500 to have dinner with them i'd tell them to fuck off. shouldn't a charity dinner actually be a good deal? what exactly are you getting for $500 ?

(yeah, i read the one guy's description. but what's in the loot bag?)

i mean jesus, devs aren't celebrities. or are they? do any of u guys actually get very excited by the prospect of meeting developers?

i might actually pay for it if bobby kotick was there so i could throw my wine in his face.

$500 dinner?

It can be one of two things:
1) It's a scam without Blizzard or any charities involved.
2) It's a scam hosted by Blizzard, the proceeds of which will go to charity.

EDIT: Well, maybe three things.
3) It's a good deal if you're filthy stinkin' rich.

I think you kind of missed the point of the charity aspect here. You, the diner, are not the charity and are therefore not getting the good deal. On the contrary, you are the donator and are paying a disproportionate amount for the dinner so that some of your fee goes to a charity. The worse the deal, the more charitable the charity dinner is.

Most of that money, if not all, most likely goes to charity. I would assume since if it would go to charity, all of the things they gave you for coming to the dinner could be written off as charity expenses.

You're right, I missed the point entirely! I fail to recognize that they have infinite demand for this sort of thing already, it's not like the dinner won't fill up.

Sounds like a lot, but I have no clue what is standard for charity dinners. I'm guessing the blizzcon tickets are the big item there. I dont think they're vain enough to think meeting the devs will be thaat enticing.

I would say it is legit, the opt in, is because it is a charity dinner with limited seating. Check with Blizzard first. $500 is a lot, but you also get to go to a suave dinner and meet a lot of cool people.
