![[image loading]](http://www.glogster.com/media/2/3/88/66/3886627.jpg) Horror movies, haunted houses, you name it. I've never understood the point to these things. Some people scream when they see something scary, then laugh it off whereas I would be freaking out. I was always one to sleep with my mommy when I was younger if I saw something scary. My night-light would be my best friend after dark. Do people do it for the adrenaline rush? I'd rather go on a roller coaster or play a long ZvZ on Destination.
Someone please explain this "being scared" phenomenon.
Why am I writing about this? Today I went on one of those haunted house walks. Just creepy. Dumbest think I could have done. Scariest part was that they had real people in costumes doing things while on the walk. There was this one section with a long hallway. As I was walking, I felt like I was being watched. I turn around and some tall dude with a freaky mask following me for who knows how long. Ugh, just freaked me out. Now I'm just looking over my shoulder every now and then. Call me a sissy or w/e but this stuff just makes no sense. Horror/scary stuff just isn't worth it.

I think you need to up your mental fortitude.

Its not about not being scared. Its quite the opposite I think. Its about enjoying the adrenaline rush and the excitment of it. Similar to roller coasters or extreme sports. Its all about the thrill ^^. If you don't enjoy it then don't do it heh. And don't let people make you feel like a sissy about it >>.

I hate like scary movies, they are stupid. Especially the recent ones, they are more about popping random shit at you rather than fucking with you mentally (which I can sometimes appreciate).

Horror is like eating very spicy things. There is no direct enjoyment from it, only pain, but people still insist they like it.

I dont really get the point of horror movies either tbh. Most of them are so bad it's boring, the ones that actually do a good job of being really scary.. I dont enjoy them because I see being scared as a negative feeling. Roller coasters are just awesome and fun. I mean I like watching super tense thrillers and enjoy some movies that are pretty scary too (david lynch movies for example) but I still dont get movies that really dont have any purpose except for scaring you.

A negative emotion is often an enjoyable experience. In movies, there are parts that make people sad, and parts that make people angry. Even though these emotions are negative, they are what gives life to the movie. Fear isthe same concept.

You're right but then again there aren't any movies that are entirely based around nothing but making you angry. That would be retarded. So why is fear an exception there?

It's all about fantasizing about killing people / being able to stalk and kill people at will. Dexter style. MMhmmm scary shit rocks, it's a release for psychopaths.

So everyone who watches horror movies are pychopaths? I don't even want to argue with this. Wow. That is a very interesting view point you have there.

It feels good to be scared in a safe environment. It's like, it's unpleasant, but pleasant, like a rollercoaster ride. I don't know why. I guess it's just fascinating.
edit: obviously I'm not talking about Scream or I Know What You Did Last Summer here, those are slasher films, only good for a laugh because they are so ridiculous. I'm talking The Exorcist and Event Horizon and Silent Hill 2 (the game). It's a part of your brain that doesn't get any stimulation in everyday life.

wut o.o
i 100% disagree with that in every possible way. what does a thrilling experience have to do with stalking and killing? its adrenaline.
that like saying ppl who enjoy roller coasters are just fantasizing about flinging themselves full speed at the ground and that its a release for suicidal people. which is completely false.

Pffft scary things stopped being scary a long ass time ago. Tame life if you get adreniline rushes from movies and haunted houses ~_~
Go walk around some crack neighbourhoods or just plain Detroit. I've been held at knife point in my own car and even that wasn't very scary. Maybe I'm broken OO

i'm definitely gonna say you're full of it and just putting up a front for the internet. i'm sorry if this is actually true and you're truly a hollow shell of a person.

I can go either way. At times I despise being scared. As a 4 year old I was terrified of the Kilrathi from watching my dad play Wing Commander. God then he got some game called the 7th Guest and that freaked the hell out of me at a young age. Also when I was young I couldn't make it through The Dig, not only from the suspense but that game was just fucking hard lol (eventually did like 12 years later)
When I was maybe 8 or 9 Doom scared the shit out of me and I would never want to turn those certain corners. Then it was hard for me to play Half-life... I think it just depends on how well its done or how much of a mood the developer wants to create. People who like to play Silent Hill series completely in the dark late at night are a mystery to me, its just not my bag.
I feel like everyone just has a certain thrill/suspense threshold to where they just can't take it anymore. I'm more of a suspense person. I don't mind being freaked out, but I hate horror movies/gore. Actually if I ever get dragged to a horror movie these days, most of them are just plain bad.

I think its to get away from the ordinary things in life. To get an adrenaline rush. You can't get those while you're at work or just doing ordinary stuff. So people just want to get away from that

As a kid to around 17 years old haha XD I was scared as heck of a lot of things. But I realized that most of it was just stupid and forced myself to just ignore the thoughts. I literally forced myself to. There is only one thing that scares my to the bone which is the movie and dolls of chuckie. *shivers* Watched that movie as a kid and I can never forget it now >_<;;
