Will be interested to hear what you find and make.

All this is usually very hard to do without having an acapella version, as stated above. Most amateur methods try to capitalize on the fact that vocals are often mixed to the middle of the channels in popular music, hence removing all the parts that are not common to the left and right channels leaves you with the vocals. (You can do that manually too in Audacity, seperating the channels, subtract one from the other (invert one then merge), then subtract the result from the original) But there are a thousand places where this can go wrong, and produce no valuable results whatsoever. The Voicetrap plugin presumably uses some more sophisticated algorithms, might be worth a download, though I never tried it myself.

Only took me about a week of toying around to be able to use it efficiently.

Audacity is a great program to learn with. Simple and pretty basic. As for acapellas, that site might help you a bit. I use acapellas from there but not all of them are guaranteed to be perfect because most are DIY. There are quite a few gems in there though that will be clean and sound perfect.

But if you have access to the vocal track somehow, then mixing is with beats is pretty straightforward.

Otherwise, if you want to go the DAW route, Ableton would definitely be a good choice as it has very good bpm-detection built-in.

from what i heard, pro tools and cubase are the industry standard even though pro tools is fucking confusing as hell, it's what is usually used in studios that teach professional mixing off the top of my head, timbaland uses pro tools *edit* but like you said, pro tools is difficult.. if you like rap and wanna start mixing beats and stuff, i really suggest Cubase or FL studio boi-1da who made beats for eminem drake pretty much sticks to his keyboard and fruity loops. from there, you can download different VSTs which are really compatible with FL studio and cubase (since they invented it) for example, Nexus is a crazy awesome VST (virtual studio technology) and the best thing about FL studio and cubase is that there are many.. many videos teaching you how to use and experiment with different stuff on youtube FL studio has the most tutorials though. there are even like series of videos that teach you not only how to mix music but like properly sequence them and everything so it turns out professional

I hear Cubase is pretty good for pure audio work as well, though I haven't tried it myself FL studio is pretty solid for beginners and good for composing off a piano roll or making beats, though it's not as good to get things to sound "professional" choosing a DAW is more about figuring out if the software works in a way that's conducive to how you plan on making your music; for the most part I would just try out the demo for something easy like FL studio and worry about getting better software later

I got to a point after asking people around who could use it to be able to make simple shitty beats, but again i dont remember how.. But I have tried FL studio ahwile ago but I couldnt figure that out for shittttt, and cant you not import sound to it?
