TLDR: Starting a progaming house/apartment in the eastern US. Need people. PM me for more details.

There was a thread a few months ago asking if there were any non-Korean pro houses.

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=115050

There was a little bit of interest expressed there in something like that happening. I personally expressed interest and even exchanged some PMs/IMs with a couple people. Well, I think that the time for something like this is now and I am hoping to find people to work with me on it.

I am looking for several people to all live together and play StarCraft full time. I live in Richmond, Virginia and would like it to happen here. We would all be living in
an apartment together and living spaces would be cramped. Full time jobs and playing full time StarCraft would be near impossible, so a smaller apartment with multiple people per bedroom, probably with bunk beds or something similar, is a must. You would have to pay your portion of rent and utilities, as well as pay for your own food, or your portion of a communal food bill if people wanted to do it that way. Assuming group living, part time jobs could cover this just fine.

The overall goal is of course to become a sponsored, professional team but of course things take time. If any currently sponsored or teamed players would be interested in participating, you could of course stay on that team and/or with those sponsors until the house's team became competitive enough to justify you leaving.

SC2 is coming out in under 2 months now and if there was ever a time to shoot for the top it is now. I don't much care what you were doing before this, all that matters is a good work ethic, a powerful drive to win and a good attitude. The house/apartment would probably be moved in to in August or September, so if you are interested, ask for more info in this thread or via PM and we'll talk.

This is very interesting because I also live in Richmond, Virginia. Although im not sure if I would want to play as a pro gamer at this time. I will give it some thought!

i would think you need a decent size house for all of this, as for non-korean pro houses there have been quite a few, mibr and coL both had one for quite a lengthy period.

Anyways, whats the point of putting that much money into getting sponsored? the ends does not justify the means, if you really want to get sponsored you have to be willing to dedicate 10-12 hours / day, good luck

Yeah small house can be tough if you have anything more than like 3-4 people.

the EG house is in phoenix cuz housing is so inexpensive there. I don't know about Richmond but I know my area (Northern VA) rent and housing in general is expensive as freak. Richmond probably isn't as bad.

The point honestly isn't to get sponsored. The point is to make an environment that is conducive to gaming at the highest level and getting the most out of the time you put in. If you work 40 hours a week and like to sleep 7-8 hours a day, you don't have 10-12 hours a day to put in to things. This is a chance for a group of people to gain the ability to do that, by grouping together to limit expenses. Sponsorship is a goal in the sense that it would allow the people living in the house to not have to work (or to have to work less), but that is just to allow them to work even harder towards their passion of gaming competitively.

Richmond is pretty cheap. It is a college town so their is an abundance of cheap housing available, not to mention the average income level in NoVA is much higher than down here, causing housing prices to rise.

Sounds like a very expensive version of internet chatrooms, one would wonder why you would have to go through such lengths just to be able to communicate.

Nope, serious blog. I don't see why it would come across as a joke at all.

I explained it a bit earlier indirectly. Most people are not in a situation where they can afford to try something like this by themselves. I know I don't have enough hours in the day to live on my own and play 8-12 hours a day and I assume most other people don't either. Not to mention the benefits of living in that sort of environment as far as motivation and such go.

It's not just a way to communicate better it's setting up a living environment conductive to competing at top levels.

I will be honest, I kind of figured that was assumed. Any group of people living in one place is of course going to be sharing basic housing responsibilities.

The point honestly isn't to get sponsored.

"Pro House"?

So more like a casual house for people that want to live together instead of chat over vent i see

but wait your op said

"The overall goal is of course to become a sponsored"

im confused how terms point and goal are so interchangable here.

But i get the idea that if you live in the same house as some people you might be motivated to play alot, but that doesnt mean you're all anygood at rts or will be, but i guess that could be how it works out?

This thread just reminds me of all of those 'fun clan' threads from bw where d players would sign up or something for practice partners for some reason. Be cool to see it work out though i guess

I'll rephrase then. The overall goal is to become top players. A slightly more short term goal, which will help in the realization of the long term goal, is to become sponsored. It will help by allowing us to dedicate more time towards the original goal.

You are right, it doesn't mean we are any good at RTS games. I pretty strongly believe that smart people can become good at just about anything with hard work and a good environment though. Put a bunch of competitive people in one place with one goal and I am certain something will come of it though. This is sort of an out there choice and I think the people willing and motivated enough to make it probably also have what it takes to make it somewhere.

I hope you follow through with it! I like seeing people this passionate about gaming :D. A few CS teams currently live together in apartments and it's made them infinitely better overall and I'm sure you'd see the same results with SC2. GL with this and keep everyone posted^^.

How about split it 8 ways? 100$/mo, part time at 7/11 will do to pay this.

incoming american pro scene and sc2 bonjwas!

I kinda like the idea, if you guys pull that off and other teams follow this it could create a scene similar to the korean pro scene.
Wish you guys good luck!

I'm very happy for your initiative! I'm reminded of this part of a movie, where Ryan is firing Bob:

Ryan Bingham: You know why kids love athletes?
Bob: Because they screw lingerie models.
Ryan Bingham: No, that's why we love athletes. Kids love them because they follow their dreams.

Ryan Bingham: Your resume says you minored in French Culinary Arts. Most students work the frier at KFC. You busted tables at Il Picatorre to support yourself. Then you got out of college and started working here. How much did they pay you to give up on your dreams?
Bob: Twenty seven thousand a year.
Ryan Bingham: At what point were you going to stop and go back to what made you happy?
Fuck you, I have a degree in mathematics and I speak 12 languages. (I called the World Cup final in 2008 btw)

Heh, at college in Front Royal, VA we're hoping to do a similar thing next fall (only since we're starting out at the bottom of the totem pole it'll be far harder). We're all (or most of us) going to be in one dorm, and are going to try and practice together to try and go far in the SC2 scene (starting with the CSL).
