No, I don't like what he said, or what it means for the future, but I like how he handled everything.
Too often are we met with the representative that dodges and flours each question. They avoid the controversial questions and are afraid to throw a curveball.
I'd rather get a straight answer, and I appreciate it when he does provide them. I'm sure hes not THE one to blame for the changes but people continue to make image macros of him and associating him with the devil. How does that make sense?
Other PRs are afraid to answer truthfully because.... well, we can't handle the truth. I appreciate Pearce's attitude.
That being said, I still think he's totally oblivious towards the SC2 community subculture.

I don't find Battle.net (and how "compelling" it is) and Achievements a sufficient answer as to why there's no LAN.
|
I agree. I'm glad he was upfront in his interview, now I know that my decision not to preorder SC2 was a good one. Thanks Frank!

If someone serves you shit on a plate, I really don't care if they call it strawberries or tell me that it's shit.
It's still shit and hes serving it.

All the cool kids shoot the messenger.
But yeah, I pretty well agree with you for the most part. To my understanding, he's somebody really important over at blizzard (founder or something?) so he would almost certainly have some pull. But at the same time I doubt he's deeply involved in these things and/or is unaware of the true opinions of the community.

Just because he did the interview doesn't mean he's a messenger. He's the lead behind it, he's certainly not just a community messenger.

I understand if you'd rather have Dustin Browder answer your interviews and be kept going in a mindless loop of 'maybes and perhaps and eventuallys' until release date.
Who knows how long this has been planned for? I'd rather be told this from the start than to realize right at the end they have been playing us.

Hitler was also very straight forward regarding the jews. Do you like him as well?

His honesty is appreciated, I get that from your OP, and agree. But my "shit metaphor" is still quite valid of a response.

hahahahahaha
what a terrible analogy.

If it weren't for his comments, people would still be hopeful that b.net 2.0 will be fabulous on release, with all the features they wanted.
Of course, his comments are so shocking that it's possible he's clueless to what the development team is really doing.
Basically if he's telling the truth, well that really sucks. If he's just stupid, well that sucks but not as much.

do you realy want chat channel ?
seriously he should have say that after sc2 was out not before

I don't dislike frank pearce, he's clearly not the guy deciding all this. He gave straight answers and I respect that. However the blizzard philosophy for bnet 2.0 has to change,

Godwin's law. Come on, it's a staple in any debate!

Agreed :D

I don't like Frank Pearce, he is an ignorant moron. Asking if we really want chat channels shows that he has probably not checked a community site in his life. He may be upfront, but he is upfront because hes a total moron, not because he is trying to "take one for the team" and tell the community news that they would eventually have to hear.

Wasn't aware that the end allowed you to cancel your pre-order.

Perhaps. But there is still some flare and discrepancy on the official bnet forums, compared to TL.net. Lots of people are appeased by how things are currently. TL isn't, not by a long shot, but some communities are.

What I like about him is he helped kill Blizzard fanboyism. I have wanted SC2 to die for a while now. Thanks for the help Frank.
|
Who cares about LAN, the inability to properly have casual contacts like you could at first is MIND-BOGGINGLY BAD
|
Thanks Frank, for saving me the trouble of dealing with a shitty interface

I don't want to sound unsensitive or something, but I really didn't get a different feel from Frank Pearce than from any other blizzard interview.
Maybe its just me though, but I really didn't notice anything astounding about this interview. It just falls with the rest of the interviews.
|
Yeah no. He 'dodged' everything by saying 'if the community wants it, we'll think about it' when in reality it's been overwhelmingly obvious from day 1 that the community wants these things.
|
Umm I think he tried plenty of times to dodge, but was just so terrible at doing it that we all saw through the BS right away. Maybe being bad at BS says something good about his character, but probably it just means he sucks at PR.

pearce came across as a total prick in that interview
|
Actually, now that you bring that point up I think I completely agree with you. I very much appreciate Frank Pearce. I just wish that he had better news.

Maybe its just me though, but I really didn't notice anything astounding about this interview. It just falls with the rest of the interviews. Same. I found him pretty similar to the other interviews I'd read. In fact, I admired how adroitly he answered some of the questions considering how many were asked. He didn't give us good news but I don't hate him. I'm more inclined to hate Blizzard.
Oh, but the 'do you want them?' line did really piss me off. That did seem totally disingenuous. Or as people have said, he's way out of touch with community opinion - in which case he shouldn't be doing these interviews at all.

I don't really want chat channels. He is a man of the people.
