Hey guys
I'm possibly going to Korea for the first time in like 6 years this summer. I need to come up with a solid laundry list of plans/things to do in order to get my parents to let me go.
Now last time I went, I had more than my fill of seeing tourist spots and historical shit.... I don't want to do any of that bullshit.
So other than starcraft related/pc-bang types of things, what do you guys recommend i should do? I should also mention that I can't drink too much cuz I'll probably stay at my grandparents most of the time and I can't come back not sober lol. thanks

i too am going to korea this summer but for a summer school program. i suggest research or find or make a friend in korea that knows the place well and ask him/her to show you around.
i also recommend the Boryeong Mud Festival in july

So let me get this straight. You want a list of ideas to do in Korea excluding tourist, historical, pc bang, drinking and starcraft related activities and this list also has to pass parental inspection? Kinda defeats the purpose of going in the first place.

I'm confused with the reasons you have on going there with those list of exceptions :o

You dress up in the weird wedding clothes. You go eat dinner at expensive "traditional" restaurants. You climb the mountains. You go to the DMZ. 2. A day in the life. You try to speak Korean to people. You try to make friends. You try to pick up girls. You talk to everyone, you go to bars, you contact friends. (3.) Rekrul life.

Ummm.....WATCH THE FREAKING WORLD CUP!!!! You can go to Seoul's city square (신촌) and watch every game for free where you get to watch concerts and shows before the game. Oh, did I mention you can watch the game with 200,000 people around you?? There's people that sell alcohol, food, and snacks, or you can bring your own. It is one of the best experiences I have had in 2006. There are also similar venues in other cities in Korea but Seoul city square is the largest one I know of.
If you are going with friends or have friends there, you should check out Hong Dae (a lot of cool cafe's, hip pop clubs, etc) , Ahb Guh Jung (Rodeo Gallery has a lot of Korean's who speak English and the most Mercedes you have ever seen in your life), Dong Dae Moon (fun place to shop), and some other cities.
I suggest you also travel around. The subway system and bus systems are very advance and cheap!
Edit: Chill, you have the most boring outlook on Korea....and a bad one too =p

What I wrote is applicable to literally every trip to any city. You either: a) Be a tourist b) Try to live a day in the life (c)) Splurge to extract maximum fun and possibly do things you wouldn't normally do because they are out of your means

Go to Apsan Park in Daegu. Has a lot of neat things to see there. If memory serves correctly, Woobang Land is somewhere around Apsan Park.

why even go? the primary reason is to visit relatives, especially my grandparents who are getting old and dont have much time left. you might LOL at me, but unlike you, im unfortunately not going without any strings attached to do whatever i please cuz im staying with relatives most of the time. so i have to keep things under control for the most part. as for your list 1. ive done all that shit before... my last trip to korea was all museums and historical sites and frankly, i dont want to do it again. im korean, so most of that stuff is old news to me. 2. so thats what im asking for help on. i want specifics - non-historical attractions, fun places to spend a day in. socializing wont be an issue, and its sort of a given.... i can speak korean fluently, even if its not the best. what im looking for is this... im from san diego. if you go to san diego, you probably should go to the beach, visit sea world, go to legoland, go to the zoo, go to del mar fair if its that time of year..... etc. if i go to korea (mostly near seoul), what are some specific places/attractions/events that are exciting/interesting that youd go to 3. out of the question lol
im not saying im not gonna do starcraft related/pc bang stuff.... im just not gonna waste an entire vacation to korea playing starcraft when i can do that whenever i want at home.
im also not saying im not gonna drink... i will take opportunities as they come when im staying with friends and not relatives, or going out with cousins, cuz maybe its not the case for you guys, but i cant come home as a drunken mess to my grandparents house (or maybe not even come back home at all lol)
sorry for not clarifying earlier

Why even go was meant in jest.
If you are Korean you need to clarify that. Obviously you are going to give advice differently to someone who is visiting Sweden if they suddenly go "Oh by the way I'm Swedish and I've been there before and I have relatives there." I guess I can infer it from your OP but whatever why am I even in this thread. Have fun!
