so i have around 6k and i am looking for a used car. I am completely undecided as to what i want to get. I first was looking through toyota tacomas and then i was looking at bmws and i was a little reluctant to move forward with the bmw idea because i hear bmws are high price maintaince. I am a college student just looking for some reliable and yet a little different ie. like a bmw ci. I would like to get some feed back as too what you think might be in my interest. something economical, slightly sporty if that and preferably not domestic. leave any suggestions and tell me what kind of car you have. thnx

nissan 300zx (from 80s/90s), cheap, easy to find "low" mileage (below 100k) and awesome car all around past that

nissan 240sx(for drifters), cheap, hard to find "low" mileage, but one of the best cars ever made

subaru imprezza, if you can find one for the right rice this is a steal

infiniti g35, very nice luxury sportscar, powerful, easy to find, no maintenance problems until very high mileage(over 150k miles at least if properly maintained (oil)) -this one is amazing ^___^

Is there a specific reason why you said not domestic? There are many aspects of cars today that foreign companies to better but you didn't give a reason why you specifically don't want domestic cars such as Ford...

Thnx alot for the PM micronesia. i was just checking it out right now. I just hear that domestic cars do not last as long as foreign cars. I have a ford right now ad the transmission just went out at 110k miles. idk if thats standard but thats my first hand experience so for with a domestic car.

It's okay if you get a foreign car but I suggest against ruling out all American cars unilaterally... using that data I sent you you can tell that some domestic cars are fine with regards to reliability and obviously some others aren't.

When I was in college I had a really old honda and it used to break down a lot, so I would always ask the tow truck drivers about what cars they always see and which cars they recommended. Every single one said if you just want it to last then get a toyota camry or corolla.

I have a used 2001 toyota camry, and if you're willing to make the sacrifice of style then its def the way to go.
Work hard and never give up.

Do NOT get a BMW used, it will be a crapload for all service, and will cost more than the car after a while. Go japanese, If I were in your position I'd get a Honda Del Sol, or 300ZX.

I dont really care for the 300zx style and the del sol is not too bad. if i was going to get a small 2 seater than i would probably go with the mr2 as opposed to the del sol. anybody have first hand experience with mr2?

not sure how much they cost, but i've got a mazda 3 MPS (mazdaspeed 3 in US speak) and it's a great car =) still stock, and beats a heap of V8's from the lights, and certainly in rolling acceleration... but it's manual only.. so... yeah... if the stereotype of an american driver (cant drive a manual car) applies to you, this wont suit you at all (it's manual only...)

if you go BMW, i strongly suggest getting a 6-cylinder version

and WRX = cop magnet, at least in aus

I can only talk from an australian perspective but...
Euro cars = expensive parts, longer wait
Japanese cars = Cheaper parts, shorter wait

if you want a slightly sporty, economical car, i suggest looking for a 4-cylinder turbo car =)

Not sure how easy it will be to find a cheap 2 seat car that doesn't have very much wrong with it.

Yeah I'd have to agree with micronesia here... although there are problems with domestic cars, you'll probably find that the prices that you can get them for is much cheaper than the foreign cars. It should be fairly reliable if you do your homework too...

While I love the mazdaspeed 3 (have a 2008 gt), did you read the OP? That's way out of his price range!

i did, and based on aus prices, if people are saying 04 WRX, then a 2006 mazdaspeed 3 shouldnt be too far out of range...

EDIT: in aus a decent 2004-2005 WRX will set you back $20-25k and you can pick up an 06 mazda 3 MPS for about 23-24k

He said he has 6k... unless the ms3 is missing it's rear axle or something I don't see how he could get a ms3...

edit: going by the price of the cars people were suggesting rather than the budget in the op isn't the best idea XD
