Skipping Patch 13

If you haven't heard, Blizzard just recently released patch 13 of SC2's beta. With news of the beta soon closing, I decided to get a head start back into BW. The transition is a lot harder. I don't know whether I forgot how the mechanics work or just don't remember builds (probably both), but I definitely suck now (anyone else feeling like this?)

ANYWAYS. Onto to main point. I'm running on a monitor that is 1920x1080 (ratio 16

). Anyone know a way I can play so that BW is not stretched out when I play? Maybe there is a way to set black bars on the left and right? If not... I guess I'm stuck playing window mode.

EDIT: I'm running 8800GT on Windows XP

if you have win 7 and an ati card, you have to play it stretched. not sure about nvidia.

for win xp, most drivers have the option to enable "maintain aspect ratio" under image scaling.

Try either of these two options:
1. Right click desktop>Properties>Settings>Advanced>Graphics Card Tab>Properties>And then try to find something related to Aspect Ratio, and set it to 'maintain aspect ratio'.
2. If that doesnt work, fiddle around with some buttons on your monitor, old-school style. There might be a 4:3 scale option.

Ok I have been wanting to know how to do this as well, I just was just too lazy, I ended up using your second option, and I have a question regarding it. WIth this apect ratio, it didn't seem to change anything with my desktop, but what else does this change besides brood war?

Blah... couldn't find it.

But now I have an even worse problem. I go into BW/ICCup and my ping is fine (around 100 or so). When I start to host a game, it goes up to 300-500. Whats up with that?

Definitely ... the other day I was playing protoss on sc:bw and I was clicking the E button for a pylon ... quickly realized it wouldn't work ... same for probe production too >.<

The ping becomes very high and unreliable after you join/leave games. I never lag but my ping sometimes shoots up to 500
