i wished they would get the fuck out of country if they are only in for the money and easy girls (some korean girls go crazy over white guys) http://blackoutkorea.blogspot.com/2009/11/marmite-blackout.html this one (including comments) sort of confirms my beliefs to clarify, it's not the fact that they take these pictures; they are pretty funny indeed the ways that they caption it and also not bother to mosaic the faces is what i refer to | ||

but yes, there is a problem with that and i do dislike those types of girls (who often tend to be super promiscuous) at the same time, i do acknowledge that legit korean female-white male couples exist, but they are very very few but there is also a problem with the white chaps who aren't quite able to make back in their country, come to korea, reap the benefits of easy money (english teaching) and easy girls while doing a terrible, half-assed job of teaching and back at their computers, complain and spew hatred about korea (you should really look at some of these blogs; some of the claims they make are absurd) all the while, their egos inflated, acting as if they are some kind of white kings of course, korea has full bag of her problems and uncomfortable truths the issue is, these people completely exaggerate and only divulge these aspects but more importantly, they do so with an absolutely lack of respect for the korean people and much condescension of course, the fact that they are being disgusting opportunists in korea don't help either | ||

That PC bit said, this blog is amazing. In Japan there's no shortage of salarymen near dead from drinking too much loitering the train stations at night. Come early the next day and they still haven't shoveled up all the puke. It just stuns me that people can get so stupid about consumption. Honestly, if sites like these blossomed, people might think twice about getting so piss drunk. | ||

in any case, it beats out flat-out racism, which you will find is directed against koreans (and asians) in parts of europe and america if they actually made an effort to learn the language and actually become more adapted to the culture (isn't that what foreigners are supposed to do in any country?), i am sure they will be better received and in honesty, koreans always try to be courteous and friendly to foreigners anyway except for a few older types | ||

Well, I can only tell you to not say things like that until you've lived in the other side's shoes. I'm a decently mannered contributing member of this society who doesn't little the local subway with puke. However, my existance here is filled with constant checks, re-checks, and general harassment designed by the government to make me want to leave. Somedays it works. Most it doesn't. This said, xenophobia can quickly change to racism and typically is intermixed. While being in more remote suburban areas I have has actual rocks fly past my head... the culprit nowhere in site. I hear the derogatory term of forgeiner so much I have grown to dislike the polite term. I speak the language fluently; sometimes better than nationals, I pay taxes, bills, etc., yet I am significantly treated like a second class member of society. Again, I can only comment for Japan... but I imagine Korea is similar. But, I must say, I knew all of this going into it so I'm not really trying to say woes-is-me. Yeah, there's shit in my soup, but I guess I like the taste. | ||

and certainly you sound much more balanced and fair (and actually make an effort to be a good citizen while also learning language) than many of these expats however, i can't really envision that koreans would throw rocks at foreigners the strange and possibly annoying ways they treat foreigners solely root from curiosity and/or ignorance, and very very rarely hatred also, i sympathize with your annoyance with the gov't, but that may -- i have a feeling -- have to do more with just the stupidity and efficiency of the bureaucracy rather than actual racism also, there are always going to be some inconveniences/injustices if you leave your home country; this applies even to me, who moved from korea to US 10 years ago this is inevitable and something that immigrants should expect to persevere | ||
