A few of my favorite 2009-2010 albums were the following:

Sweet Trip - You Will Never Know Why
Converge - Axe to Fall
Tiny Vipers - Life on Earth
Various Artists - Dark Was The Night

Madnessman's List:

xx-xx
[image loading]

This album became famous for a good reason. XX is only made up of 4 people and they're sound is so clean and melodic. Even the intro song is amazing. It's a great sign that a talented indie band was able to 'make it big'. XX is a thousand times better than almost anything out right now.

Resistance-Muse
[image loading]
Muse albums are always super interesting. This one is particularly interesting as Muse has started to experiment more. Some die-hard Muse fans criticized Muse saying that they were starting to 'sel-out' since Black Holes and Revelations was more 'pop-y' (almost). Muse returned to their roots (successfully) in their latest album.

Legends From Nowhere-b.hantoot
[image loading]
Such a fitting title for the album. I've never heard of this album before I heard one of the songs in a snowboarding video. I don't know how to classify it but it's a really clean classical influenced electronica album (I think).

Take a listen to this song... You might like them.

Scars-Basement Jaxx
[image loading]
Such a great comeback album by Jaxx. If you haven't already done so, you need to listen to this album from beginning to end. The single Raindrops is fantastic of course. It's so distinctively Basement Jaxx. I saw Basement Jaxx live a couple of months ago and IT WAS EVEN BETTER LIVE!

Fist of God-MSTRKRFT

I don't think this album did well. Most critics didn't like it but I thought it was pretty good. I was going to recommend Heartbreaker, Bounce, and vuvuvu but I just re-listened to the album and I decided that every song is worth a listen. Heartbreaker is especially good though... I love that song so much.

Good songs (not sure if the entire album is good since I don't own it or I don't like the entire album):

That's all I can think of right now... I'll edit in more songs/albums if I remember any.

Because it makes sense then! I thought you were way older for some reason (internet can be deceptive). I can't imagine a grown person listening to this haha.

Personally been listening to the new Paramore album 'brand new eyes' , although it may be a bit to heavy for your tastes Jason Marz is a good choice, although personaly im more of a jack johnson fan ^^

I felt rather letdown by the new muse album. Only like a few songs maybe, perfer some of the old stuff alot more.

thanks for the betakey givaway ^^

Most memorable album of the past couple years for me is easily Soil & "Pimp" Sessions' 6. Bit of a pain to come by here in the states, but well worth it. I feel like they're one of few groups actually evolving the way jazz sounds while staying true to the genre and one of even fewer groups able to revitalize jazz and keep it relevant.

Not at all surprised to see Muse making appearances on people's lists. I'll probably end up listening to some of what's been posted, but sometimes it seems like I have to kiss so many frogs to find a prince it's almost not worth it =/

2009 was a bit of a lacklustre year for indie in general, sure there were some good evolutions of the sound, but nothing felt as new or fresh as it should have. Especially looking at . Animal Collective? An excellent pop album, though not as powerful experimentally as their previous works. Phoenix? Another band that had matures their sound, but honestly I'll always look to United for a more enjoyable and earnest experience. Even hiphop with Raekwon? Just repeating himself, no matter how well. However, I believe the best albums of 2009-10 probably are the ones that skirt the edges between indie and electronic, without siding too far into pleasing pop.

1. Fever Ray - Fever Ray
Not as good as the Knife, but for the same reasons I love Burial I loved her album. It's dark, it feels significant, mysterious. Combined with the imagery she created a really solid total artistic work, with simple but effective lyrics.

2. Four Tet - There Is Love In You
Four Tet's always been really, really good. However this is the first time hes ever put together such a cohesive and simply fun album. I'm a dance music producer, so maybe I'm slightly biased as a listener. The way the music is mixed, and songs arranged, is just so complex. It doesn't get lost in complexity though, it's also plain fun. Definitely manages to work in any context, so while I'm DJing or while I'm listening to it on my iPod.

3. Girls - Album
I liked the idea. Garage rock that felt like the pet shop boys at the same time. But, honestly it's the insanely catchy but morbid lyrics that make this record the most fun to listen to.

4. FaltyDL - Love Is A Liability
I'm a huge FaltyDL fan, and it's all because of what I felt listening to this album the first time. The New York garage beats (again, probably more important to me because I'm a dance music nerd), the sexy vocal samples and slithering basslines make it worth listening to because it transcends genre and manages to simply be good music.

5. Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma
This will be known as the best electronic record in years. It's so complex, so beautiful. A lot of people will listen to it, think it's some kind of house sometimes, maybe a bit of hiphop, jumping all over electronics genres. Honestly though? This is jazz, or at least jazzes future. I love it, it only takes one listen to Glaaxy In Janaki to understand why the guy's a genius:

Hope I didn't write too much, but music is my life!

This guy deserves to win.
