Hey guys, next year I'm going to a university where no one else from my school is, and I don't know anyone there.
I don't have a problem really with rooming with someone I don't know before hand, but I just can't trust the system to match me up with someone who isn't a douche, dick, etc.
Anyone know of a good resource to search for potential roommates? Someone told me of this one site, uroomsurf.com, and it is set up like an eharmony type site. So I was filling it out thinking "Wow, this is soo easy" and then bam, get matched with people. Only problem is you have to pay for "access" to their interests and shit and to even message them... so that isn't working out.

If dorms are the only thing you're considering, see if your school has a 'quiet housing' option or something like that. It doesn't guarantee that your roommate won't be an ass, but it will at least mean he probably isn't looking to throw parties in your room and shit.
Either way, schools will often allow you to put in a room change request if you get roomed up with someone you can't stand.

What area are you in? if youre lucky TL.net might be able to help.

Yeah I may actually hit up craigslist. And @hoborg I'll have to look into that.
EDIT: I'm going to George Mason University in Washington DC (already talked to the CSL coordinator, LuckyFool )

Have you called your school to see if they have any kind of service for hooking up roommates?

Yay Ranix, I hope you find a good roommate! I crown u as my terran replacement at GMU.

Don't worry about it too much. I'm not sure where exactly you're coming from with these concerns but if it's because you're an introverted guy who's been pretty sheltered most his life then I'd suggest just going with it and trying to get along with whoever you end up with. Most people are pretty chill guys and if you really do get a total asshole (or someone you just don't mesh with) you can always ask to opt out. College is about meeting all kinds of people after all.
Of course I could be looking at it the wrong way completely

Not really that- I just want to find someone who has the same interest I do. Like someone who would be more than willing to LAN games with me and shit like that.

The chances of randomly landing someone like that is pretty low I think, but you shouldn't have too much trouble finding someone in your general area to do that stuff with. (At least I hope so, because that's what I'm betting on haha).
And in college, everyone hangs out from all over the place anyway, so it's not too big a deal haha.
