I watched it because there was so much hype surrounding it, and admittedly found the premise quite intriguing. It's pretty difficult to sum up an entire decade in just 10 movies like this. Plus all the stuff people have already mentioned, you've got City of God, Eternal Sunshine, DD, Synecdoche, Traffic, Pan's Labyrinth, Dark Knight, The Wrestler, Borat, Shaun of the Dead, Return of the King, The Pianist, Amelie, etc. Basically, I can't make a top 10.
The Watchmen was boring and it didn't even really make you think. Just consequentialist bullshit.

i actually thought district 9 tried too hard to have a non-cliche storyline and ended up disappointing. the first 30 mins or so of the movie was absolute garbage IMO... the main character was too much of an idiot to keep my interest.
