Nostalgia Pt. 5
You know what I really miss watching? Pros typing stuff to each other and chatting in game. What's the harm in chatting in game? I just don't see why it's disallowed anymore. The fact that simply typing a pp could have gotten you disqualified about half a year ago simply disgusts me. What's better than progamers shit talking each other or simply typing out playful banter?
I just feel like there's too many restrictions on what they can do and what they can't do. Hell, I was watching a game earlier today and I saw GoRush change latency settings IN GAME. Nowadays you can't even type out zizi yo.
Today's installment of nostalgic games features two Broodwar legends, Nal_rA and Nada. I picked this game cause the chat at the end is pretty hilarious, and the fact that it's a pretty epic game.
Anyways, the game starts between the two on once again U-Boat (Island Map). rA opens with reavers whereas Nada opts for a dual starport opening. After Nada deflects rA's initial reaver harass, both players expand to the other two boats on the map.
Reavers against cloaked wraiths and mines = Pretty unfair fight
However, Nada switches over to a dropship heavy style and drops a large army in rA's main that eventually takes it down.
Not the position you want to be in if you're Protoss
For just about the rest of the game, rA found himself down an expansion to Nada, but is able to claw himself back into the game with storms, dts, speed shuttle abuse, and carriers.
Making carriers really is a good skill toi have
The game eventually ends with both players chatting to each other in broken English and cute emoticons.
Nada: T_T you win, come
rA: okay me win

I've got a few more installments left in the works. I do have something big in store as soon as I collect everything, so expect something big within the next couple of weeks.

Haha thats cute that they chat in English. I wish chat was allowed in games nowadays, it would be so much more fun, and thank you for this series of blogs, I'm getting to see alot of games I have never even heard of!

Hey professional starcraft is serious stuff. Stop it with this having fun nonsense, this is a real life job not a game.

Nal_Ra clearly knows just how cool he is.
Also, agreed on the loss of ingame chat; it was one of the many parts of the game that added personality to live matches that have since been eliminated.

Showmatches when players talk to eachother are always the best, I wish this could happen in real matches

I agree that little cute chitchat after the game has been decided is harmless, but in the case of drawn out discussions like in that IdrA game, it's disruptive to the broadcast. Obviously SDM overreacted in this case, but it seems like it would be very distracting to a commentator to have all that chat going on when you're trying to talk about the game.

Yes, I grabbed most of my stuff from Korean torrents that I happened to find around the time. There was one for the Top 100 MSL games (compiled like 3 years ago), but it died before I could finish. =(

My favourite in-game chat was Nada vs Boxer where Nada was trying to nuke Boxer by hiding a ghost under a floating rax, and Boxer typed in "do you think I'm stupid?".
