so a while back I met this guy. british guy, real cool and chill. he works as tech support somewhere. then one day was at his place chillin listening to music, and i noticed that his music folder had a lot of ninjatunes and trip hop. i was so happy because i didn't think i would meet anyone in life that listened to that kind of stuff since all my friends listen to either rock or hip hop =/

anyone here listen to trip hop? some of my fav artists:

unkle
funki porcini
herbaliser
thievery corporation
amon tobin
bonobo
9 lazy 9
dj food
clifford gilberto

just want to see if anyone on TL listens =D

Yea that looks just like Kang Min... amazing game sense... and uses mind games well, but has the micro of a washed up progamer.

Massive Attack are the pioneering force behind the trip-hop. Try also bands like Smoke City, Laika, Portishead, Sneaker Pimps, Supreme Beings of Leisure, DJ Shadow, Lamb, Goldfrapp and Hooverphonic

Thievery Corp and Zero 7 are not exactly trip-hop, but I dont know a trip-hop fan who doesnt love those two bands.

I'm a trip-hop junkie

The artists you list go beyond what is generally considered trip-hop. You should check out stuff from the low end theory/brainfeeder scene that is gaining momentum in los angeles these days like:

flying lotus+ Show Spoiler +
and
nosaj thing + Show Spoiler +

These podcasts are a good way to get into it http://lowendtheoryclub.com/podcast/

It's supposed to be automatic but actually you have to press this button.

I saw a Dj in mid to late 90s at a rave called Mindflow I believe. His Dj name was Aler or Alert. One of the best Mixed tapes I got from him had no clue how to spell his name since it was graffiti writing on the tape T_T . I could look up the flyer....humm

huge fan of Portishead.

Going to see Massive Attack live in Croatia in 4 months, can't wait for that.

Also, DJ Shadow and Zero 7 are fantastic in their own field (like Tricky)

Groove Salad on SomaFM plays a lot of music that would fall into the genre of Trip Hop. I've been listening to Soma & Digital Gunfire since my dial-up days when I first learned and understood how Shoutcast & online radio work.

Awesome thread! I'll post my absolute favorite trip-hop artists:

Emancipator (both CDs....insane, go listen now. emancipator.bandcamp.com)
A lot of ninja-tune stuff
Mr. Scruff
Flying Lotus
The Herbaliser
DJ Food
Guts (<----PICK THIS UP AS WELL!)
Saru
DJ Frane (<---ALL of his albums have basically been on repeat for me for awhile)
DJ Shadow (of course)
Nujabes (sweeeeeeeeeeeet)
Saltillo
Bonobo (get this)
Portishead
Thievery Corporation (a bit different but...yeah good)
9 Lazy 9
Little People (also worth a listen)

Some Trip-Hop stuff on Luke Vibert's newest album. I love this song:

Whoa this thread is right up my alley.
Ninja tune ftw! Seriously if you are new to trip hop/acid jazz google Ninja Tune discography and get every single album put out on that record label, you won't be disappointed. Actually their newer stuff sounds kinda strange (new Xen Cuts was rubbish in comparison to the first volume) but anything before 2007 is pure gold.

I hear Bonobo (my favourite artist EVER - i consider the Live Sessions album to be one of my most prized possessions) is coming out with a new album at the end of this month... can't fucking wait!

Nice selections kfour... will check out Opgrave and DJ Frane since I've never heard of them.

Recently, the album I've had on repeat the most this year has been Michita - Dawning... new album by some Japanese producer who imo is more talented than Nujabes.

wow cool. always nice to meet people with similar tastes in music =D

haha yea massive attack, dj shadow, portishead, goldfrapp etc i thought would be too obvious so i didnt mention them but yea love them too

YES! Bonobo - Live Sessions is just pure gold.

and yes long time Ninjatunes fan. Xen Cuts is awesome. will listen to the other stuff people have mentioned here =D

i get my music by googling for rapidshares and then using jdownloader... otherwise a little here and there haha its not easy getting non-mainstream music :p

Maybe I should zip a pack and upload it....hmmm. I cant do it tonight but maybe tomorrow.

edit: I'd also like to point out that you can download Pretty Lights for free from their website.

Consider using the donate button if you like the music, they are awesome. I liked Taking Up Your Precious Time and Passing By Behind Your Eyes the best.
