Gotta love this thread. OVERcompensating isn't bad, it just means people excell in other areas. No way does it mean that they try to highlight their strengths and downplay their weaknesses. Nor does it mean that they try to hide their weaknesses as well, but end up exposing them by putting to much emphasis on anything but that.

Doesn't the term "overcompensating" imply that it is being done in excess? Since resources (energy, time, etc) are limited, perhaps someone who is "overcompensating" is neglecting other things in favor of "compensating" for something.
