My employer is really interested in investing in new technology that could help improve efficiency in the workplace. When I say new I mean developed in say the past 1-2 years.

Examples could be GPS tracking in vehicles/phones, WiMax, tablet pc's for field emplyees.

Do you guys currently work anywhere where new technology is being utilized? Are you seeing any real benefits from the implementation of said technology? What are some examples of the technology your company is using?

Any input would be really appreciated. Thanks

I work out of a small home health company run by my friend. There are a lot of nurses and marketers who are always out in the field visiting patients and doctors. Nurses are currently using tablet pc's which eliminates most of the need for paperwork. Most marketers have company issued blackberry phones in order to receive email and such on the go. Company cars have gps trackers to keep an eye on where people are going and how fast they're traveling.

We feel like were already pretty technologically orientated but were looking for fresh and new ideas. I'd just like to hear about the kind of stuff you guys use at work that you think is pretty cool/neat/whatever.

If I were going to make money off of this I would probably pay for the opinions/insight of IT people. I'm just helping out my employer who just so happens to be one of my best friends.

Sounds more like his employer wants to get high-tech working aids for his employees for a better/more efficient working environment.

At first I was skeptical about putting GPS trackers in the cars because I thought it would be violating the trust or whatever of our employees but it's actually saved the company so much money.

You'd be surprised how many field employees start their day at noon and clock out at 3 all the while putting 8-5 on their timesheets. It's also comforting knowing that if the cars are ever stolen we could locate them from any computer with internet access.

Of course. Home Health agencies are renowned for their wide variety of energy supplements.

edit: quote from wikipedia

"Home care aims to make it possible for people to remain at home rather than use residential, long-term, or institutional-based nursing care. Home Care providers render services in the client's own home. These services may include some combination of professional health care services and life assistance services."

None as of yet but I can't see how this could help us. Isn't CRM a system for customers to basically have better communication with the company? Like tracking orders and stuff?

If I'm completely wrong could you explain it to me?

This field is fairly different from mine so I can't offer technological advice, but I'll point out something (common sense I suppose): new technology is only as good as how you implement it. Whatever you decide to use, it will most likely take a lot of time, work, and dedication to fully take advantage of its potential. I find a lot of people/companies assume that purchasing new technologies will almost magically increase productivity.

edit: and it's the same with emerging educational technology: GIVE THEM SMARTBOARDS AND KIDS WILL LEARN!!!
