Day 5! So far so good. Let me know if I keep posting the same kind of music in any one genre. I'll try to vary it as much as I can, but my method is basically looking through my music library and picking albums I like, so it's possible that I'll get into a groove and forget to pick different styles of music within a genre.
1. SV Rachmaninov - Piano Concerto No. 2 What? Classical When? 1901 Why? A fairly well known piece. It is so good though. Beautiful and exciting! Show me!+ Show Spoiler +
2. GZA - Liquid Swords What? Hip Hop When? 1995 Why? Most will know it, but this is for those who don't. Listen to it and listen to it again! Show me!+ Show Spoiler +
3. Yann Tiersen / Shannon Wright - Yann Tiersen & Shannon Wright What? Songwriter When? 2004 Why? Gloomy, moody, very beautiful music. Show me!+ Show Spoiler +
4. Beirut - The Flying Club Cup What? Indie Folk When? 2007 Why? It's difficult to dislike the Balkan sound, and his voice is perfect for the music. Show me!+ Show Spoiler +
5. Dan Swano - Moontower What? Progressive Death Metal When? 1998 Why? One of the best voices in metal. This album has a great sound. Show me!+ Show Spoiler +
So, let me know what you guys think today. I seem to have put a few older albums on today. All classics I assure you!
Disclaimer: The title says that it is Daigomi's guide to good listening. That means its my opinion. Feel free to disagree as long as you provide reasons; I enjoy a good discussion as much as the next person. Also, I just like listening to music, I don't give a shit for the political implications of any music.
I love these guides. Thank you for giving me something fresh to listen to. One small, very minor complaint, or rather disagreement: for some reason I abhor Kissin's interpretation of pretty much anything. The Rach 2 I find most exhilarating in the hands of the master himself: Rachmaninoff. But, hey, to each his own.
You and Tree.hugger are inspiring me to at least think about doing a music blog myself.^_^
I enjoyed the Wale song you posted, i got some of his stuff not impressed right off the bat with most of it like I was with the song you posted.Ill give him some more play time and see if I can grow into his albums.

I actually listened to Beirut long before I listened to Grizzly Bear, so I never quite linked the two up. You're right though, they do have a similar sound, with Beirut sounding a bit more folky, and Grizzly Bear a bit more indie.

All in all, these blogs are great.
Thanks! My goal is exactly to give people something new to listen to, or to remind them to listen to some old things they might have forgotten about.
Your complaint is entirely warranted. I try to do these blogs as quickly as possible to avoid burnout, so I just grab the first youtube video that has it performed decently. That works for most music, but for classical music I should pay more attention. I personally prefer Richter's recording, but the Rachmaninov ones are the ones I happen to listen to the most (I think they are higher up on my playlist, terrible reason). Oh well!

oh and nice followup on that Wale sample, an entire Yann Tiersen album! :D
In South Africa, the only live music we get is Green Day every couple of years We very rarely get any good indie, or in fact any of the music I post here. It's a bit depressing!
Your reference to Tiersen made me decide that I needed to post a Tiersen album here. I absolutely loved the Shannon-Wright Yann Tiersen album back in 2004-2005, and I thought it might be one of the albums less known than his others, so I thought it would make a good choice. Have you listened to it yet?

Haha, I've really wanted to write a music blog for a while now. It's one of the few things that I can really give back to the community with. I've listened to between 5000 and 6000 albums in the last 7 years in pretty much every genre imaginable. So I really wanted to give back to the community in this. I started with my guides to music, but that idea rubbed too many people up the wrong way, and I don't have that amount of time to put into the blogs right now anyway, so I thought that this would be a good compromise. Hopefully I can keep it up!
What I like about Wale is that he doesn't have one style. His songs and albums tend to be quite diverse, so it keeps me interested. If you specifically like Diary but not the other songs, then maybe try out Cyne (they have the same kind of production) or Blue Scholars (they have a similar style of delivery). There's someone else too, but my mind is feeling flat tonight and someone recently mentioned Blue Scholars and Cyne, so they're in my mind now. However, if you stick with Wale, I'm sure you'll start to like him.
One of my all-time favourite songs
EDIT: Also, please make a music blog! The more the merrier :D
