So just 2 hours ago I got my Razer Salmosa! But the problem is my current mousepad isn't that good so it doesn't work well with it. I am going to best buy to get a steel series mousepad, apparently they have 4HD one in stock for 24bucks. How good is it? Should I go for it?

I'd personally recommend getting a nice, soft low friction cloth-y mousepad for maybe 4-6 bucks. If it has a decent rubber backing, then it won't slip, and it will do everything that the steel series will do for you.

If money isn't an issue, go for it.

mousepad is pretty important for lan/consistency

any steeleseries would be very good, but if you play any fps, i'd recommend a larger pad. but if you only play starcraft a smaller one would be fine.

also, a plastic (hard) pad will have much less friction than a cloth pad, ofc

Steelseries QCK mini or QCK+ pending on how big you like it.

oh never knew that
i guess that's why my bro bought us cloth ones... im guessing cloth (i.e friction) is good for CS?

I'm currently using a steelseries QCK+ along with my steelseries ikari laser. Pretty nice pad, had a plastic smell to it during the 1st week, smooth sailing after that.

The best part about it is you can clean it with a sponge and some soap and warm water, dry it with a hairdryer, and its brand new again.

my salmosa works fine on my old mousepad.. did you install the drivers or do w/e the manual says? I had that problem where it wasnt smooth at all until I installed the drivers and restarted, then it was perfect.

4HD is an excellent mouse pad for the Salmosa. I have a Razer Mantis Control cloth pad, and the 4HD is a big improvement, imho. Benefits:

1. The Salmosa (actually, I'm using Abyssus = Salmosa v2 now) has very high lift off distance on many cloth pads, but on the 4HD, the lift off is a lot lower.

2. The 4HD has a nice glide while not feeling "slippery" (many textured plastic pads have this feel). Also, there is no "drag" compared to soft cloth pads.

The mousepad from the WeMade sale is like the greatest thing ever, so cheap, convenient (bendable cloth/rubber), and absolutely zero problems.

I have used the razer exactmat, icemat, steelpad qck+, and func 1030. I replaced my mousepad every two years or so and always wanted to try something new. However, this last time I decided to go back to the func 1030. I missed it and would say it is by far the best mouspad I have ever had overall. Icemat is up there, but you have to clean it often which gets annoying. Also the teflon feet on your mouse would need to be replaced every couple months if you really wanted the icemat to feel good.

Another func 1030 vote for me.

The 4HD has a Semi-rough glide. I prefer the smoothest glide possible. I currently use the Steelseries 5L and it is amazing. If I was to get a new pad I would get the Steelseries SX.

They may not help you get better, but I certainly prefer the way my mouse glides on a nice hard mousing surface than a cheap cloth pad.
