Hey guys:
Just wondering, it's one of those days where you feel really down, unmotivated, even depressed, have no faith, don't feel like doing anything...whether if it's because of a personal problem, family crisis, relationship hiatus, academic difficulty, whatever it is, how do you guys deal with it?

For me, whenever I'm in that position, I just think to myself:
"At least I still have StarCraft; and because of this I can forget the world and just enjoy myself wholeheartedly."

I usually force myself to get over everything as fast as possible. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. This is a good motivational video:

I remember that I am insignificant to the world as a whole, and thus for my existence to actually mean something I have to work hard to achieve something, to do something with my life, so that at least I can be proud of myself

You need a better outlook on life, go read some philosophy, and that will smith tape is actually a bit inspirational, not bad.

I don't rlly like the video much, think it was brought up in a similar thread on LP.net but it just seems like general baseless rhetoric.

It is inspirational though certainly.

The things people draw inspiration from these days. The guy is an actor! what is so extraordinary about an actor? He's overpaid disconnected from reality. His smug smile, the TV-hosts might as well blow a load and orgasm, all because he said some feel good words which I've heard a million times (he probably practised saying it in front of the mirror). It disgusts me that famous people are worshipped in our sick society.

Anyway my advice is just the usual, eat well, sleep well and exercise. Omega-3 if you're not taking it already.

Most of the things he said are lines from movies he acted in. I linked the video because it motivated me when I needed motivation not because I worship Will Smith. Stop derailing or this thread will turn into a shitfest.

Don't necessarily take it as a problem to be quickly fixed, but as a symptom of something you're feeling that you can't quite pinpoint. Taking motivation from others can get you through, but being able to identify why you feel this way can give you control over it. This might keep you in a funk for a longer time, but at least you'll know you found the root of the issue, and aren't just using a temporary motivational boost.

OP, find something that you're really passionate about. Whether it be reliving your past, pondering more about your future, watching pro sc or thinking of limericks : ) or you can try something new, something u've always wanted to do.

When im feeling down i usually watch some motivational videos, or read quotes. It helps me most of the time but not always. If nothing works i imagine me slapping another me, trying to wake him up :D

Here's something that's pretty motivational and just plain good advice to think about. While I haven't really watched the show ever, something really stuck with me from the last episode of Conan O'brien when he was talking about leaving NBC. He said that he loved his work with NBC and he's not bitter at all. Conan followed it up with: "Cynicism is the worst trait in human beings." I think that's really wise and being so basic, sort of surprising that I had never considered at great length: to avoid cynicism.
Wake up Mr. B!

Really? Is it so terrible to offer a couple words of inspiration to people? If you think that he's just an actor, blah this blah that..then you're mistaken.

His words may be scripted, practiced..whatever, but they are meaningful and true, and with that people can choose to believe in themselves or sulk the rest of their life. It's not wheather he's famous or not, the point is he's trying to help people.

Do you even know the story behind his life? Just because he's famous you despise him, but the struggles and hardships that he has overcome are immense. Not to mention the countless charities that actors donate to, or the fundraisers they organize.

As for your worshipping actors statement..there are far worse people that society idolize, including murderers, rapists. So just leave it at, people will "worship" whomsoever they please.

As for a just trying to get through the day..

I well understand these methods to deal with it etc

However, I found that the best way to do is to not deal with it.

That is because you can learn from emotions.

I mean - don`t treat it as an unwanted tennant, that you wanna expell.

You feel bad . Ask why ? Why do you feel bad ? This emotion does serve a purpose and it has a cause.

So you do 'deal with it' eventually but its a very different approach. This is because you learn how to ensure a lasting joy and not the one based on a trivial, short-sited ambitions.

With time you can learn that you are responsible for your emotional state. You are. Ater time and practice you become the orchestrator of the emotional system, not the slave of thereof.

Whenever I rage because of SC, I think to myself, "At least I still have a normal life"; and because of this I can forget the losses and just enjoy myself wholeheartedly (sometimes).

It's very easy to say those things when you're one of the most successful and richest people in the world. No I don't know about Will Smiths life story because nothing about him interests me.

It's far more impressive when its coming from someone with very little in life or someone who has accomplished something great against the odds (does not include rapping, acting, greedy business people).

Like that guy with no limbs that's an inspirational video I can recommend. Anyway I will stop derailing this thread any further.

If I'm smart I'll start a creative project to distract me. I find it difficult to go on StarCraft or read or listening to music or even watching a movie when I'm depressed though. I have to actually be doing the creating or it doesn't work. You'd think StarCraft would be good for that, but for some reason it just feels like I'm wasting my life if I'm sad and I try that.

Also motivational videos are annoying as hell and I hate everyone who posts them or refers them to people who are sad. They're only good for people who are already feeling peppy, and I don't want to cheer peppy people up either. Plus they're retarded and dogmatic, rather than actually being informative or having even an ounce of credibility in anything they suggest. As a critical thinker those videos just make me even more depressed and annoyed. It's like they're telling me I don't try, which is also patronizing. God I hate motivational videos.

EDIT: Actually, all that is written really more with stress/anxiety in mind. When I'm sad I don't usually try to fight it or anything. I kind of enjoy it, ironically... When I'm sad I can read and stuff, but I also like to create. It's tougher for me when thoughts are racing thru my mind and I keep trying to obtain closure for something that has happened to me. If I'm sad it's basically the closure happening and it means I can just wait it out.
