Didn't save the rep cuz im stupid but I will discuss this game I played maybe a month ago.
PvP on Neo Medusa (was offracing for fun) and the guy I'm playing against is some random TSL dude. I used the account "drhelvetica" and he says before the countdown "oh wow drhelvetica"
The game starts. He says "Hey, I like your articles and stuff"
i say "thx"
The game progresses and this guy has no idea i am actually the worst sc player in history and I lost to a 7 year old who did a 30 second late 9 pool and had 48 apm because I am so trash. Anyway, the game progresses and I'm failing hard, he scouts my DT wayyyy early but I'm an idiot and just go through with it anyway.
My rush fails utterly and my terrible macro means he has like 4x more goons than me.
Then he says "You're not Drhelvetica, he wouldn't be this bad"
It was the first time an ICCUP diss made me legitimately sad. Sometimes I want to stream games because i play a lot of stupid/funny games and listen to GREAT music (k-pop/metal/anime OPs) but I don't want anyone to know how bad I am at SC.

hahaha...I feel your pain. I'm not that bad but I've lost in some very embarrassing ways. The worst part is when I start a game and I know I've totally trashed my build and my timing is going to be way off and I just have to solider it out to the eventual loss because the game is downright unforgiveable at even lower levels sometimes.
But this is good to know. Some time back they were thinking about a writers/graphics team showmatch. If that ever happens, I'll advise Plexa to pencil you in for the ace match

in that same game i also got nervous and somehow hotkeyed 12 scvs instead of my vultures to 3 and then sent 12 scvs to his 4th base and at that point I just quit because I hated myself

just got back into sc after 3 weeks(ish) away due to a comp crash and dont have the rep of that game in my autorep folder its nice to play vs ppl i see posting on tl.net...and u werent the worst person ive played i just didnt think that someone who posted THAT much would be that far behind >.<
edit: im also D+ w/PvP being my best mu (im on the fringe of C- now that i fixed my PvT...thx day[9])

knowing what to do in a game versus actually executing it, the "knowing by doing" part, have a huge divide between them. not even two sides of the same coin i'd say. i'm in dr helvetica's camp unless i play 2-3 mo.

In my opinion this event shouldn't make you feel bad. You have no obligation to PLAY bw well and the guy obviously respects your writing if he has such a high opinion of the 'real' DrH.

to answer your question: No.
But they write articles about progamer stuff and NONE of us are on the "progamer" level of understanding/timing etc.. and still are anywhere near a "writer" of sorts.
I don't think them sucking at bw has any effect on the legitimacy of their articles. I find it awesome actually that they write from a more "fanboy/enthusiast" perspective.

Ha I used to be like that, always thinking that people with high post counts must be good at sc and that people well known on TL must be good at sc.
Lasted until I played my first match against someone from TL.
Now it feels more like the other way around ^^, those who post a whole lot per week usually dont play that much, incontrol being one of very few exceptions.

Yeah, but usually sportscasters and the likes who did play professionally are retired or injured etc., and are now commenting on the game. When they are in their prime, they are usually still playing their respective games.

Did not mean it that way, meant it in the way that it should not be a surprise he is bad since none of the writers here are actually good, since he was assuming a writer would be good :p
I have no problems with the articles the people here write since pretty much all of them are excellent, well written, well thought out and a million times more articulate than I could have ever written them. + They do lots and lots of volunteer work making this site as great as it is.
That is not to say I don`t correct people when they are making obvious mistakes in comments regarding the games (Hi PLexa`s powerrank) but I still highly respect the work these people are putting into their writing.

I think a lot of time people fail and make the connection that people who write about sports/strategy are good at it in real time. It's a big difference. Especially since when you are writing about something you have all the time in the world to do so, execution in game under stress on the fly is a skill in itself as we all know.

I'm decent, but I've never written anything for Final Edit or News... mostly just lame blogs about Zerglings and Probes. I would write something for the Pro Scene, but it seems like everyone just has it covered, so I don't want to double up on articles or steal their thunder. That's why I just write silly stuff
