I'm gutted.

This is going to be the best final ever. Judging from the first 3 games.

Very sad for Flash. He didn't deserve this. I'm a massive JD fan but I'm still saddened by this.

But props to JD for the brilliant counter/prediction for game 4.

this did not, by any means, feel like a real final
the thing im most upset about is that the third game itself was SO GOOD and it just ended for no reason
the only good thing about this is that when they finally meet at an OSL final or at least a real MSL final the hype will be twice as big

I have been looking forward to this for so long, and was so happy during the finals, until everything got turned upside down. I really wanted Jaedong to win, but not like this. It's not Jaedong's or Flash's fault, but the kespa referee for not admitting the desicion was bad and arrange a rematch instead.

I agree.

I'm happy that Flash seemed happy for the 2nd place and didnt go grumpy like his dad.

I believe JD had game 3 easily when the blackout happened. He had consolidated 7 and destroyed all but 2 of Flash's vessels. Flash didn't have the irradiate needed to break a defiler defence nor the economy to do another massive push. But I didn't want JD to win like this. There was no excitement. Flash's play was dead in game 4. JD was obviously no happier with the situation than Flash was. His win had been completely undermined, despite his fantastic play, especially in game 3.
Completely ruined the finals. The players were disappointed as fuck and when they have no will to play I can't find myself cheering.

Yeah what a bummer. A real disappointment of a final to me, especially when most of us expected it to be one of the best finals ever. =( Game 2 was pretty entertaining and game 3 was great up until the failure, at least. 1 and 4 were alright, but still too one-sided to be really epic games.

But yeah, the failure really took a lot of momentum out of the whole thing -- Not to mention that garbage seperate studio crap.

I honestly think jaedong was almost letting flash win near the start. He had one sunken and two lings defending against 8+ marines and flash didn't attack. I was almost yelling, "ATTACK NOIW FLASH FAFJ@#R@#"

yeah dude i feel exactly the same. i was so psyched for this match - i thought it was going to be EPIC! im a jaedong fan, and would have been dissappointed and saddened if he lost, but still very happy for Flash because hes my 2nd favorite player.

the fucking hour long break after the power outage or whatever was extremely anti-climatic. i went limp dick .... fuck

I think what's contentious is not game 3 really but the effect it had on flash..... I bet he was feeling pretty pissed, especially with his dad and his entire team fighting so hard against the decision. He walks out....After an agonizingly long time no doubtly pacing back and forth he comes back. This isn't the same flash from the first three games.... He must be shaken. His mental condition must be shattered.

While this finals did end up being a total fiasco, you cannot deny that JD brought his A-game and his preparation really showed through games 1-3. A shame that his win will be overshadowed by the horrible fail, because tbh JD actually exceeded my and a lot of progamers' expectations.

edit: And of course set 4 is also illegitimized (not a word but whatever) because of set 3, even though I think JD would probably have won that set too. Sigh.

You're right about Flash not deserving this, such a horrible way to go out. I also feel robbed as a Jaedong fan because his victory has been tainted. He didn't even look happy and his forced smiles were awkward.

I'm so frustrated right now. The ads didn't help either.

He didn't play too well in game 2.... But I agree with what you say. JD's win will be tarnished either way anyway. His BOs these games were really something. His muta control in the first game might've been the best I've seen in a long time.

Jaedong never showed any management skill. The reason I'm disappointed is because any Zerg with good muta micro could have beaten Flash in games 1 and 4.

That's true but his BO was pretty good I thought, aside from going guardian -> instafail. And 3 hatch before pool twice in a row against the guy who planned on doing 3x bunker rush to get to the finals? Damn.

Mmmm well if Flash had made more than zero turrets in his main, maybe it would've gotten to management stages. Agreed on set 4 but like I said that was hardly a legitimate match between them

Crap accidentally 1/5 instead of 5/5 T_T

Yeah, i love Flash and like/respect JD a lot and i'm really sad of this double robbery - Flash robbed of chances and hope (see how crushed he was before and during set 4.) and JD of potential glorious victory

Even though I'm a bit of a Flash fanboy, if there's one player who I can respect for potentially outplaying flash it's Jaedong.

His play was fantastic, no doubt, but it's pretty obvious basically no one wanted him to win like this, least of all himself.

Bad call of the referee, I think he should have offered the option of a rematch IF both parties agreed.

jaedong didn't really outplay flash, game one was just basic muta micro 101, game two he fell on his face. game three finally we saw them both playing well, and game four was flash being mentally raped by the shit storm that went on for an hour. watching game 3 until the fail power i was really thinking the final score would be 3 - 2 for jaedong, which sounded great to me... but... yeah.

really sucks for both of them, very unsatisfying win for jaedong and a really mentally draining/disappointing loss for flash

Yes JD played very well especially in game 3 when his 1 o'clock expo was gone and Flash had a screen worth of MnM and was threatening to destroy the 3 o'clock expansion. Who would have thought JD could defend that?

Sadly, I think this will be overlooked and forgotten.

Since this is the only of the several MSL threads in blogs with 2 pages atm, I figured I'd post this here. What follows is a PM description of what happened that I sent to a fellow asking for the results/summaries in the LR thread. If you think I've got stuff wrong here with respect to games 1, 2, and 4, please tell me. You can continue to be rattled by your emotions when it comes to game 3, but I don't care what you say about it unless your argument is well articulated and reasonable (if you say Flash was ahead, I will believe that it is neither).

OK, you'll hear a lot of hate from bitter fanboys, so I'd like to set this straight for you. I am not a fan of either, and I was just glad to see the great games I saw tonight.

I would suggest you watch all of the games, because they were all good.

1) Match point, JD on right, Flash on left
Jaedong abused the map, pure and simple. He went for a 2 hatch muta build against Flash's 1 or 2 (i'm sorry, I don't recall) into tech build. The thing is JD duped him with an extremely early lair, before his second hatch was finished. Flash scouted this of course, but JD waited before he put down the muta harass until he had placed his 3rd at his min only. He then muta harassed the nat, forcing excessive turrets and hitting marines. He felt like he would win then, I'm sure, and went back to hit the main. What he did there is best explained by day[9] in his Flash vs Hyun ep from proleague. Basically the wide area behind the mineral line makes it so marines can't defend scvs from inside the min line and need to congo line behind it. JD rocked defending marines and SCVs, and despite an investment in the midgame with his 3rd hatch at 3rd base, literally won during muta harass.

2) Ultimatum, JD top left, Flash bottom right
Flash did 1 rax CC while JD did his counter of that (clearly this is what he decided was how to beat flash), the 3 hatch before pool (off of 2 base of course). He got a huge amount of drones and got mutas kinda late. JD did some muta harass to keep flash at home while building a bunch (like 5 at this point and increasing) sunks to defend against the marine ball that Flash put outside his nat from time to time. JD then grabbed both the 12 and 9 island bases and linked them to his main via nydus. Then he morphed guardians at Flash's nat, and flash decisively killed them with a couple (i think) wraiths and marines. It wasn't a total rape of the guardians, but JD lost a lot in the encounter. He was still comfy I imagine though, seeing as he had 7+ sunks at his nat and 4 base vs 2, 2 of which were nydused islands. Flash then went for a drop at JD's main with 2 dropships. JD had 4 scourge waiting, but Flahs dropped a pair of super clutch dmatrixes and got his marines up there. He then elevatered to the win.

3) Odd-Eye, JD at bottom right, Flash at top left
Same openers, so JD was at an econ advantage. He also got a really early evo chamber for the upgrade advantage in the long game. He picked up the right side of the map, having favored econ over any aggression. In fact, he never got lurkers and his mutas were used super late. Flash pushed the top right, which was JD's 3rd, and JD put down 3 sunks there just in time while hodling flash back with muta ling. Flash then waited until the zerg forces were cutting off reinforcements (his troops were positioned outside that key top right base) and then he busted the sunks. JD took it back though before the hatch died. Then skip a little (sorry), and Flash came to the top right. JD had been getting ultras and they were at 4 armor 2 attack with speed by this point. Flash hits the base up there with a huge medic marine ball, and JD tried to break it but failed. Flash then pushed down to 3 and took it out. JD was getting bottom left double gas but it was tense. It's worth noting that Flash's medic micro (getting them in front of zerg melee units) was super key in both of his attacks at the top right.

JD gets the surround on Flash's army at 3 and Flash sends his next (having macro'd very well the entire game)force to bottom left. I need to mention that JD had been picking off vessels the whole game btw. So flash hist bottom left after the nydus has finished as well as defiler and consume, so JD put up a strong defense. Flash, being almost mined out placed his min only 3rd CC and basically went all-in off of 9 or so rax at the bottom left. If Flash won the battle, JD would lose. If JD won, he would win. They fought there with decently classy micro (better from flash, but he was in a tight spot anyways after losing his army at 3) for over a minute of constant battle, maybe more like 3. Then Flash was forced back towards his nat and unfinished 3rd base. Then the screen went black because of a power outage and TL went to total hell. It was very clear JD would win, so KeSPA gave him the win instead of a regame. This was a difficult and extremely controversial and apparently flameworthy decision.

Flash's team may have, or threatened to just walk out. Flash's dad threw a huge fucking fit for over an hour and had to be forced out of the studio (I don't know if you know what that dude looks like... he wasn't shown tonight, but if you saw OSL finals, but I wouldn't want to fuck with him). Eventually, they got back on track and the 4th game started.

4) fighting spirit. Flash at top right, JD at bottom left.
Flash went with the very expected 8 rax (he's been doing that on this map a lot recently), and JD anticipated this and wen 9 pool. People said that Flash was shaken by the craziness in game 3. This is possible, but really the 8 rax vs 9 pool is a wild disadvantage for the Terran. Flash smartly didn't go for the bunker rush, since it would be pwned because of both 9 pool and cross positions, instead opting for a second rax. JD made no mistakes and finished it quickly. He had his sunks up in time having scouted Flash's second rax with a ling that snuck in. From that point it was basically over, and JD just needed muta harass with ling run ins, combined with his big build advantage to secure the title.

OK, I just realized I wrote you a novel, but I wanted to tell it how it was. There are so many flaming fanboys right now it's hard to get a real story. I hope you appreciate it, but you really ought to watch the games since they were sincerely quite good.

I apologize for the shoddy writing there. I'd like to know what people think about that analysis, like I said.
