I'll provide an internet connection up there so you can continue to escape into your RPG's. Edit: I'll also throw some chinese books at you every once in a while.

I actually just planned a meeting with an advisor on the 11th at 1pm so I'll post how that goes. I'll be sure to the the advisor at my current college how I feel and what major I want to pursue and hopefully he/she will be kind enough to direct me in the right direction. Also, motbob, what do you mean? And did it pass yet?

You must stay in the attic at all other times though. I'll provide an internet connection up there so you can continue to escape into your RPG's. From my health care bill blog: Sec 105 Health insurance companies must provide health insurance plans that include coverage of dependent children under the age of 27 instead of 18. So if you are living in your parents' basement up to the age of 27 they can more easily cover you under their health plan . No, it hasn't passed yet.

Its true that if you do go through you'll probably land a job as a translator somewhere, and I don't want to discourage you in any way... but learning a language like that takes alot of dedication... and even more to make sure you don't lose it and forget words and such. But if that's your goal, then I would suggest what Chill said and look around at the programs that universities around you offer. Nothing like speaking to an expert about it... Yea, I didn't want to get into how learning a language as a degree is probably not the best idea. However, since you seem to be just wandering in life it's probably better than nothing.

Everything you said is false. You're just regurgitating popular opinion about learning languages. With that said, it doesn't really sound like it would be worth it to major in and learn Chinese if your only goal is to translate for ER patients at a hospital. If you're going to put the time in with a hard language like Chinese you should have more epic goals imo. You also don't need a degree, you just need the skills which is why they don't ask for one to apply for that job.

Learning a language just seems like something I could enjoy and be content with in life.

I mostly just wanted to say that you're on a good path. I've spent a good portion of my last year learning French, which is nowhere near as different from English as the languages you're looking to tackle, but it's srsly so fun. Once you start to understand the native speakers, its an experience like no other.... they sound like musical mermaids or something... just like so interesting and mysterious that you can make sense of their sounds i guess.

And uh... can you explain again why you want to learn Chinese specifically (as opposed to other languages)?
