Short story:
Yesterday i had a big dinner with my whole family and family friends. The wife of my cousin had a hudge flu, coughing every 2 minutes & sniffing ...
And here comes the drama.
I told her she couldn't come with us at the table because of the risk of infecting other people. Everybody jumped at me saying she can come and saying i'm a rude person trying to keep her out blabla...
I tried to explain them the basic about how flu is spreading from one people to another but they just ignored me, laughing at me, almost calling me a nasty idiot.
That was just pathetic and a hopeless case so i stopped arguing.
She spreaded the flu all the dinner, coughing non-stop near me, on the food, on the plates and everywhere.
Today i have a sore throat and i feel tied, i think it's the beginning of a flu.
How can people still allow sick person to eat at the same table in 2010? It's fucking insane.
Stupid people always win because there are more of them, you cant fight against the swarm.
I'm in a terrible mood at the moment, i feel the flu overrun my body.

When you suggested the sick person stay away and everyone got offended, that was the time to choose to exclude yourself instead. If nobody will listen to you, then just don't join them. If they get upset/offended about that then just wait one day for them to all get sick so you can show them who was right!

Dont want to catch a cold, get away from other people.
In Sweden everyone gets sick around christmas time. This is because is gets so freaking cold that people decides that's its a good idea to go to one common warm spot somewhere in doors and gather around there. Now, since EVERYONE are gathered in one tight spot it becomes extremly easy to get colds and other shit from other people therefor ALLOT of people gets it.
The majority of the Swedish population thinks it is the cold that gives them the virus and not other people. My way to solve this is during november till february is to stay the fuck AWAY from crowds.
I Started this 5 years ago and I have only been sick twice since then and I spend 85% of my time OUTSIDE during the really cold periods since there won't be ANYONE around there. Compared to before when i was sick twice per year and tried to stay away from the cold by being in the most cramped warm place along with all the other people.

edit:alternatively, wait for her to cough and then get a giant sheet of glass and hold it in front of her face,
then,
change the lighting to make all her nasty infected mucus visible and get childs books explaining how germs works for your entire family

The only way to make them learn is to take your newly gained flu and spread it to your family at tonight's dinner

As micronesia said, there are ways to deal with people who won't listen to reason. You gotta be charismatic and phrase things the right ways.

That's what i wanted to do, leaving the room and eat somewhere else but it's very hard to do at a new year dinner with all the family and friends. I felt traped really.

If you feel you have a good reason, then do it. If you think you don't have a good reason, then it's not worth it.
Clearly you thought you had a good reason if you were willing to argue with your family/friends for a little while about it.
Something you gain with experience is the ability to decide when it is/isn't worth it to take a stand on some issue, right?. With hindsight you can decide for yourself if it would be worth getting sick to avoid having to skip out on the meal. Even in hindsight not everyone will agree on that one. Personally, I'd leave.

Funny/weird story: so last night I ended up sleeping at around 6:00AM and kept on getting woken up by people leaving the house, so I had a bunch of weird/disjointed dreams. You happened to be in one of them. We were in a classroom and there was some kind of new learning method that would track your eye movements. I remember a graph on some computer screen. Also the instructor saying that there'd be a really bright flash of light every once in a while and that it could be really painful for some reason. Also at the last slide of his powerpoint type thing there was this button that looked like a sheet of paper and he clicked it and was like "the best part is something something something don't even have to something you can print right from the screen!" and then the dragged or something and made a little trail off of the screen into the printer (the trail was this green arrow thing) and then stuff just got printed out. Also you wouldn't stop smiling.

Wow... I can;t believe they don't know how the flu is spread... but then again my mom doesn't believe that there are cancer survivors. Sucks that you got sick, if they did then they would realize you were right.

It's your fucking duty to make sure you are healthy and I'm sure your family feel the same.
Take a fucking stand and tell them why you don't want to spend time with them.

Honestly, if you feel like people are being unreasonable just make a sacrifice, I mean they're some kind of family to you either way. Just take your plate and go to the living room to watch TV and eat there or w.e
Well at least that's what I would have done. It maybe would have offended a couple of them, but they're the ones being unreasonable about this. Plus they're family so they prolly won't care about it after like 5 minutes.
Or ask to switch seats with someone who doesn't care about sitting next to a sick person.
