I would like to know who you think are the people that made you who you are. Who shaped you, who was the person that made it "click" for certain things? My own list is rather short.

A guy I met during school, his name is Martin. He personified the "Fuck You" attitude. He teached me to stop caring, stop being a goddamn pussy. I learned to put myself first and stop caring what others think.

A guy I met on the internet. You may know his handle, he is active here on TL.net, but I think he prefers to stay anonymous. He provided me with lots of informations where to start looking for information on many things that I had interest in. He also was nice enough to listen despite his own problems.

Another guy I met online and formed a good reallife friendship with. He basically opened my eyes. After listening to his story I realized that the only problems I have are the ones I create in my own mind. To make it short: he came as kid in our country, had some troubles with the police, and now he is married, has a good and respected job, has a house and two children.

Who was most influential in your life? Who helped you to develop as a person? Your parents? Your friends? Total strangers?

Sounds like he really made you a better person.

As for me, I guess it would have to be:

1. Parents-->set of example of education being high priority and frugality (almost stinginess) with money
2. Older brother-->largely influenced my sense of humor. The things he found funny kind of determined my sense of humor as a small child.
3. Wife-->introduced me to anime, cheese as a main course, and silliness as a virtue.

Surprisingly I can't think of any major influence from my friends. I was more of a leader I guess among my friends and didn't do much following.

I guess for me, I'm a role model for everyone else so I wouldn't know.

Some friends come to mind though. Some of their attitude rubbed off

Mom and Dad: instilled proper values and priotized educational success and extracurricular involvement. Prohibited me from doing things that they thought would have unnecessary negative influence.

Sister: provided additional perspective on issues that my parents could never look at objectively

Teachers: had many very good teachers who all contributed in their own ways

Dane Cook taught me about comedy.

My older brother had a huge impact on who I was when I was younger and that definitely shaped who I am today. He was definitely the biggest influence in the first 15 or so years of my life.

My dad influenced me a lot as well. My dad showed me how to work hard.

A few of my friends have also influenced who I am.

Lastly, is myself. My values and beliefs who all shaped by my own opinions and experiences in life. My parents never told me what to believe and allowed me to take the world in on my own and develop my own opinions and values.

I dont really know who shaped me, but one of them was definitly Jaedong. his desire to win, his motivation and everything else that goes along with his great personality made me who I am. I learned to give my best in everything i did, even when I ate or something bizarre. That helped me a great deal and i started to achieve things i could only dream before. Basically he taught me the hardwork. And yea you all mentioned not to be pussies, I learned it from him too, duinno how but he is the ''badass'' genie im my mind
I am a great believer in luck. The harder I work the luckier I am.

my parents made me what they never wanted me to be in the first place, a lot of things they don't want me to do, i've done. A lot of people they probably don't want me to hang out with i have and do. But hey, they're asian to the EXTREME, so perhaps i'm not doing myself such a bad favor.

Many people have affected me. Every teacher I've had, my parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, siblings, cousins, friends, the list goes on.

This is quite a stupid question, because of how long the answer would be from anyone.

Most influential would be a different question. For that, I dunno.

My high school football coach/Guidance counselor was definitely one. He is the main reason I am in university right now, rather than a dropout.

My grade 11/12 math teacher was another. He piqued my interest in mathematics, which ended up leading me to Engineering. He went out of his way to help me, even though I was definitely a pain in the ass to him. Looking back at it, only attending about 30% of his classes must have been insulting to him. I definitely need to go back and thank him sometime.

My mother was one. She supported me, regardless of what I was doing. She also relied on me for many things.

My father was one. He died a few years ago, after a long battle with two different types of leukemia. He was a very smart man, and he was very successful, even though he did not go to University, and barely obtained his high school diploma. He showed me that what really matters is effort. He was a grandmaster at Chess, and, during his life, I was never able to best him (came close only once). He was an avid fisherman, and taught me to love nature.

My siblings are definitely on that list too. They taught me a lot about responsibility, since they are all a lot younger than myself, I took on the "man of the house" role. It sucked, but it really made me a better person.

All of my good friends fall into that list, for various reasons. The death of one of them (while we were on a trip together) really helped instill the value of life in me. Another introduced me to the whole "german gothic" scene, and I have met many awesome people through that scene. A third was always there for me, since we were both really young, and I've been there for him. We've gone through a lot of shit together. There are others that fall into this category.

Sarah (the girl I lost my virginity to at 14) was definitely one. She helped bring me out of the slump I was in after my father passed away. I was incredibly depressed, and I even dropped out of school. I became stressed out over the smallest things. She saw me at my weakest, and helped me get better. It's too bad I've lost contact with her.

My uncle showed me (first hand experience here.....) that the heavy drugs are bad. I have tried a number of them, before I was even legally able to drive a car in Canada..... He's also gay, so that helped me have more understanding for the culture behind that, and, even though I am not gay myself, and I know that I will never understand how they feel, I can at least sympathize and help stand up for them.

The list goes on. In some ways, I've had a pretty fucked up life, but all of it has made me who I am today. If any of it changed, I wouldn't be who I am today.

parents just for guiding me throughout my life (including dad for introducing gaming)
best friend Kareem for being 3.5 years older than me, knowing me since I was 2, always treating me well and we had similar interests
Gillias @ theamazonbasin.com for introducing me to the StarCraft world I would have never known, and guiding me (and many others) through our infant stages in StarCraft (amazing person)

idk. definitely missing a couple
