(This is because us northwesterners have to stick together)
I could go on about this FOREVER, but I think the top answers are probably:
There's a ton of variety: anything you need in terms of seasons, climates, activities, anything, we've got it.
It's green and clean. (The air and water are like delicacies.)
The people are very, VERY friendly, and the culture is laid back. That said, there is an emphasis on ethics and personal responsibility. I thrive on that.
Plus, the controL homestead is here.

Thanks for what you said, I really appreciate it. I've been... I guess you could call me... a regular guest on State of the Game, and I hope you will like it if I continue to do so! With so many questions for Geoff and I about our relationship... I had mulled over the idea of an advice series on YouTube, or maybe a podcast. Do you guys really think people would want to listen to that?
The long distance thing is really hard. Tonight, in fact, I'm missing him a whole heck of a lot. I went and got his comforter from his apt so I could snuggle it. To take the edge off, we try to have little movie dates. We'll countdown 3, 2, 1... PLAY and watch movies or shows on Netflix together while on a Skype call, so we can chat and hear each other laugh. We make sure to check in every day, and then, luckily, usually find a way to meet up somewhere in the country at least every few weeks. A lot of nights, I fall asleep to his stream, cause with those comforting in-game sounds I can pretend like he's there.
Still suXXors tho. We have a few exciting things in the works that may bring us geographically closer here in the near future, as I become more heavily involved in e-sports. So hopefully it won't be too much longer.
...Unless I'm Miss USA, then we have to talk about him moving to New York!

Thank you... that means so much.

What region of Oregon do you live in? I lived in the Rogue Valley (Medford) for 6 years. It was the best place I've ever lived. And thats saying something, my parents were airforce so we lived in 7 different states. Gorgeous mountains, fantastic climbing, awesome rafting. No snow in the winter, however when you want it you can go up in the mountains and grab it. Lots of wonderful rain in the fall and winter. Many of my fondest childhood memories were at Bear Creek, I've never seen a better park. Really safe metro area. Lots of people retire there. The hot springs over in Lake County are great, probably the best I've visited outside of Costa Rica.
I went up to Portland several times but I always hated it there. I know its supposed to be "the most environmentally friendly cities in the world" or something, but it came across as too urban and dirty for me.
Crater lake was, of course, fabulous. I highly recommend seeing it if you're ever in the area (which is admittedly rather remote)
I hope to go back there someday. It still bugs me when people mispronounce "Oregon" =P

Are you as disappointed by the community's atmosphere as of late as I am? (I'm particularly disappointed) So much less tight knit and overall just...doesn't feel like home any more. Just wondering.
Also, discounting your hunk of MAN, who's the best looking progamer you've met?

People would definitely listen. Especially an advice series and especially if it included relationship advice. Look at the sheer number of relationship related questions in this thread. Awkward nerds would love to hear a pageant winner's take on these topics! lol

Ok so it's the day before Valentine's Day, 2006. Geoff and I are Duo Dramatic Interp Partners on the Oregon State Speech and Debate Team, and we are on campus for our home tournament. I've been laying it on pretty thick for the past few days: the typical touching the arm, leaning on the shoulder, hovering around "I FREAKING LIKE YOU, OK" girl moves. And nothing. Nothing. Clueless gamer.
Cheers for posting your side of that story. I remember hearing Geoff side some time ago and found it so funny. Its ok to laugh about it since it turned out fine in the end.
Hearing your side put more evidence in my thinking that girls are generally better at keeping their cool.
Thumbs up for doing this thead, and good luck in the contest.
Geoff: I think you got a keeper there.
