Hi TL,
Well today I got in a car accident. To sum it up quickly, road conditions were shitty(rainy, etc) and when traffic slowed in front of me (not at an intersection or anything), I was unable to stop my vehicle in time. Luckily everyone else was alright, but my car was totalled.
Anyways, the ticket I received, the officer only wrote an abbreviation of what it actually is. What he wrote was "FTSWACDA" which he told me meant Failure To Stop ... something I forgot.
So first question, does anyone know what that stands for? If it helps he wrote 96.246 as the code or whatever. Michigan, USA if that would help you.
Also he told me if I go to court and present my case its possible the judge will lower the charge. Obviously this seems like a good idea, but does anyone have any possible strategies or arguments that the judge is more likely to lower the sentence after hearing.
Thanks for reading this guys and if you have any advice or anything I'm more than grateful for it. I'm still really shook up as it only happened like 2 hours ago and I don't really know whats the next step.

Did the cop witness the accident? Normally you don't get a ticket for being in an accident.

Actually normally you do get a ticket. Usually when a report is filed the police officer generally gives a ticket to the person deemed at fault. As for the OP's situation he would probably be given a ticket for failure to stop because of driving too close.

Maybe that's so... strange I haven't heard about that before. Then again I don't have much experience being at fault in accidents XD

Found something that might help but not enough time to look through it myself.
Michigan's disposition codes. Also, was this your first time getting a ticket or a car accident? How old are you? What's your driving record like? If it's your first time for both getting a ticket or a car accident and you're a few years older than the driving age, you should get the ticket waived as it is your first time.
On a similar ticket note: If you get a ticket taken off your record, does it still show up on your record as getting waived?

I'm 2 days short of my 20th birthday. It's my first accident, I've had speeding ticket when I was 16 or 17.

You probably have a good shot at getting the ticket waived or reduced significantly. I had gotten my second speeding ticket about 2 years after my first and it was slashed by about 2/3. I'd protest the ticket - you have nothing to lose except more of your own money. Good luck!

If your state has is a no-fault state for rear end collisions, that might impact it. This shit varies state by state though sooooo

Did you and the person you crashed into call your respective insurance companies and inform them of the accident? You should do that asap if you feel like you're in a sound state of mind.
Worry about the ticket later tbh, it's not as significant atm.
Not sure how you could really argue for your case, since you're at fault. Maybe you could argue for underestimating bad road conditions. But whatever you do, don't lie.
Both the times i was in an accident we didnt call the caps tho, so im not sure.

damn thats a shitty birthday present.
Well on my brothers birthday, my car got rapped by a 15yr girl with out a license (last june).
GL with your case though. hopefully everything turns out all right

in texas if you rear-end someone its automatically your fault(rain or shine). Let's hope your insurance rates dont go up!
