PLZ DON'T LINK THIS GUIDE ON OTHER SITES!
I received some PMs asking for a guid to bypass NA & Canada IP only sites and games. I decided to do a blogpost about it so I don't have to repeate everything 20 times.
If you do everything right you should be able to enjoy hulu.com, Dungeon Fighter Online and other IP-blocked sites without using a proxy or PVN.
Some time ago you just could use Hotspot Shield but famous sites started blocking IPs so this is no longer an option. (Though it still works for some sites)
Okay, let's start:
This might sound curios but the goal of this guide is to make AOL (yes, AOL lol) give you an american IP. So instead of setting up a proxy (which causes lag) or using a VPN we just use an internet provider to give us an legit american IP. So how do I do this you may ask yourself?
Step 1
Go to http://webmail.aol.com/ and sign up for an AOL e-mail account.
IMPORTANT: a) Do NOT use aol.de or aol.it or aol.at or another redirected URL. Just use the link I provided! b) use 98009 as your Zip or Postal Code!
Step 2
Download and install AOL Software (9.0 or later [I use 9.1]). LINK
IMPORTANT: a) DO NOT use any other software language. It won't work with the german software for example. Use the one I linked above. b) After you installed the Software in the last step it will ask you if you are already a member or if you want to make a new account. For gods sake please DO NOT use the software to make a new account. Just use the screenname you chose in Step 1 - "teamliquid6" in my example.
Step 3
Setting up the Software:
a) when you start the Software (it sometimes starts automatically after installation) you should see the Sign On Screen. Click the Connect Options Button!
b) Click the Advanced Broadband Settings link and Continue!
c) Click the Add a Broadband profile link, choose a profile name (DFO in my case) and click add!
d) Abit further down you have the Connection Type. Click on the drop-down menu to open it, then select "Home Network" option by clicking it and Save everything.
e) Now when you are back at the Sign on screen you just have to change the Connection: drop-down menu to your profile (DFO in my case). Remember to login with your screenname if you haven't already done and click on Sign on.
DONE!
If you followed the instructions correctly you should now have an american IP (provided by AOL) while using your Home Network. Now go to hulu.com and watch videos or just start playing Dungeon Fighter Online.
I'm not exactly sure how long this will work with nexon's games but it's been a common method to play Mabinogi (also Nexon) for a long time now and I really doubt that Nexon is going to block AOLs IPs so this should be usefull quite some time.
Enjoy!
+ Show Spoiler +Me watching Family Guy on Hulu.com Me playing Dungeon Fighter
PLZ DON'T LINK THIS GUIDE ON OTHER SITES!
EDITs: # 1: You can play Dungeon Fighter in windowed mode. Just type "//window" in your chat or "//full" to play fullscreen again. # 2: credits for the original guide go to Martabak of Mabiguru Fansite. I just added screenshots and a better description to fit TL standards, lol.
#3: Known Issues:
a) Download stuck:
My "AOL Download" stays on 0% for a few seconds then it stops responding.
How to fix? Just wait a few minutes, even if it is "not responding" it will download in the background and start installation.
b) Authentication Error:
bah, won't work for me, I get some authentication problem while connecting with the AOL dialer.
How to fix? Use AOL VR 9.0
c) c++ runtime error (Dungeon Fighter)
How to fix?
If you're getting vc++ runtime error when the game starts, be sure to check the 'Standards and formats' setting under Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Regional Options tab. I've changed it back to English (United States) and the game works fine now.

The first link doesn't seem to work.
EDIT: In Step 2
EDIT: Just googled and got 9.1, some of the first links from google don't provide the correct working version of 9.1 for some reason. This link worked for me http://wareseeker.com/download/aol-9.1.rar/219407101

Thanks a lot for this guide.
Sorry, can't do much about it. It also took me a while to finish the download ( ~7kb/s) - seems like their DL server isn't that fast. If you're looking for other links make sure you download the US Software.
(Gonna sleep now. Next answere can be expected in ~8 hours)

I got the game working but every 5-10 minutes the game closes and I get an message saying there was a hacking tool detected.

Never heared of it. Got two chars to level 8 now and never had this message. Also I looked around in some forums and everything seems to work fine.
Do you mean the captcha thing to stop 3rd party programs?
This is something EVERYONE gets to stop farming bots. Just enter the code and go on.
It seems to be realy unlikely that the AOL Software is considered as a hacking tool by nexon, isn't it? You either have another program running or maybe there is something wrong with your HackShield Pro. Did it update correctly? Tried to reinstall everything?
The only time I sometimes get disconnected is when I try to join a party. I guess the server can't handle the amount of players right now. Let's wait a week.

Yeah, that's a good idea since some ppl claim 9.0 to be better.
Basicly all you have to do is:
a) Create a Screenname (via email)
b) Setup the Software (create a profile)
Choose both and Sign in.
-> Since you can connect but it wont browse you a webpage it COULD be a software error. Install another version or try to reinstall. -> If it doesnt let you connect there could also be a problem with your screenname. Just to make sure: If your e-mail adress is "test23@aol.com" your screenname would be "test23" (without @aol.com).
If nothing works you can send me your screenname and password via PM and I'll check if it's a problem with your screenname or if there went something wrong with your profile.

I have a question, does it lag? I.E. does this work more like a proxy service?
Edit: Now I understand why you americans say AOL is the biggest piece of shit ever. Their software is pretty fucking bad.

Have the same problem :'( keeps at 0% and takes a lot to refresh the "AOL Download" window, anyone knows a solution to this?
Anyway thank you very much for the guide, if i can solve this problem i will post it for anyone with the same problem.

Alright, got AOL working, have an american IP and so on... But DFO still crashes when I try to launch it. This is so frustrating. I guess the c++ runtime error wasn't because of the IP block. Now what? D:
EDIT: Oh snap, I tried again and got a different error, "disconnected due to other session" or something. Maybe I'll finally get this working...
EDIT2: NVM, back to the same error again. Damnit.

Was like that for me, said the Aol Download was 'Not Responding' but after 5mins it had downloaded it anyway somehow and installation started.

Can you provide a Screenshot? Is it this error?
If yes than it has nothing to do with blocked IPs.
The error you get when your IP is blocked is the following:
It occures after you choose a channel.
There are A LOT OF errors right now, take a look at the official thread, sometimes you are lucky and someone posts a solution. But C++ errors are most of the time indicators for a missing file (maybe your .NET framework is not up-to-date or something)
http://forum.nexon.net/DungeonFighterOnline/forums/2/3263378/ShowThread.aspx
This is from the Nexon boards. Seems like you're not the only one :/
But 1 thing is for sure: it has nothing to do with your IP =)
EDIT: Also look here: http://forum.nexon.net/DungeonFighterOnline/forums/thread/3266283.aspx - official thread regarding launcher and game errors. 11 pages long ... buh :/
Seems like Nexon isn't that fast at doing their homework.
EDIT #2:

seems to work for a few guys

FUCK YEAH, that worked! THANKS A TON.

No problem, mate. I'm happy to see that at least one person made it. I was already going to believe that im the only one on TL for whom this method works because all answers where related to errors
Gonna update it with known issues now. Enjoy DFO! 8]

Aight, one more question. I just tried whipping up a PvP game in DFO, but it refuses to connect to anyone and I assume that's AOL's fault. I've tried to find the cause but AOL's software is too horrible, and their documentation probably worse. I need some help on this one. D:
