Ask yourself: "What do in this world I get for free?". Nowdays - very little. In real world that is. But in Starcraft, being good manner is one of most cheapest way to feel good in long run, get a lots of friends that will help you and also get your mind in better and harder shape to practice more. By "harder" I mean exactly that - better selfdiscipline. You know, you lose right... and you get so angry you would say many bad things to the other player, but by staying good manner you train yourself selfdiscipline and selfawareness and also that player (that is obviously better then you) can recognize your good manner as wish to befriend him, and he can then on other hand help you with your improvement. Get it? For free. You only need to be good manner, and you don't pay for that, right?

Good manners can help us in many ways, but we are not talkin' about table manners here.

If you look at it better - problem is within ourselfs. We don't think in long run how can one smile make so many persons that are around you happier and it dosen't cost you nothing to do so. You see the line between Starcraft and real life? Your goal should always be to be in profit, and that means gain without loseing something. Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about business world or market shares, I'm talking about simple selfdiscipline that will give you only good and profit for almost nothing.

Everything in world and everything in grand game of Starcraft can be compared. You see, you tought I will only write about good manner and how it affects people... but well, here is another connection: How come good manner can be implemented in our game? We did tell that our goal is to profit and not to lose anything? Not enough hint? Well let's put it this way: our goal is to do a strategy that is most viable in exact moment to do most for us and that we lose minimal to it's execution.

Behind the monitor or in real life, good manner pays well in most cases

Question that I always ask myself is: "Why people reject this great offer of gaining everything for almost nothing (except good mannerism and not swering and acting like angry kid)". It's more dissapointing when you get your anger down after 5-10 minutes and you see there is no point of getting bad manner towards other player and you could prevented it so easy.

But main problem is that it will happen again if you don't control it. And yes, yet again another connection with Starcraft. You see, in same fasion as you don't correct your mistake with bad manner thing - you will fail if you don't stop doing mistakes and same errors in Starcraft.

What urges us to be bad manner? Our constant belief that we should overcome everything or the fact we did less good then someone else? It's caveman effect and you should eliminate it if you don't want to stay at caveman level. It also fascinates me how many people are not bad manner in real life and what is worse - it just speaks about them more as persons who are in fact not quite honest to themself what are they exactly. They just sense that Internet is some sort of gateway where you are protected and noone can't do you any harm. People abov all, even above fact you will get yourself all benefits by being good manner understand that you are dealing with people of flesh and blood, even via chat screen and killing his Zerglingz.

How come some people are only bad manner in "virtual world"?

Some say that without bad manner there would not be drama like Idra vs Incontrol in latest "Highlander" tournament, but that's in fact not true because you can have all drama that you want but in other ways. Of course, we need to make difference between "real" bad manner that is meant, and some trash talk that is in it's basic form just friendly "spicy" way to heat things up, no hard feelings. Problem with first that it's serious and it just stops our evolution as a gamer and as a person, and second... it's again benefit for both triple sides - two players are in good relationships (as it's "friendly bad manner for a moment") an will continue to improve and replenish their spiritual being and mental status and for audiance you get some trash talk.

Advice that I can give you from my experience is "Facta, facta, non verba" and by that I mean - try to make it worth it. Try to make it a fact and not talk, try to justify your means of playing this game on field of friendliness and by doing so provide yourself with true resources good for your game and being. Why to do yourself harm if you can do good? Why to be stubborn when key to the free item that serves us all is in your grasp? How to overcome caveman inside yourself? Questions that dosen't need answer, just "Facta" and not "Verba", especially not bad manner verba.

Even from those experineces like being bad manner we can learn to change and that means we can learn to adept to what our opponent does in Starcraft match better. As you can see, we can integrate everything from opposite sides into our Starcraft gameplay, but ask yourself - is it better to implement good manner or bad manner? To be honest, experiences from good manner as you can see are much beter generator of good results, so is there any questions and doubts what should be used?

The "Dreamer" Nal_Ra presented himself many times in good manner and he did well. Don't you agree?

What if someone is bad manner toward you? Well, in that case you can't do much - he is the forgerer of his destiny, and in gaming sense he can forge only enemies and improvement that is equal speed of a snail. To do yourself a favor, try to clean your yard first and only by then you will become gamer that will be able to make good connections and be real toward his mistakes and by doing so making his evolution faster and more enjoyable with company of good friend.

So guys, next time when you try to be good manner, consider it a favor to yourself, your improvement and benefit to your spiritual and mental health. You get plenty and give only something - that dosen't cost you anything but can make another persons day nice and more enjoyable.

Win-win situation if you ask me.

Irl i'm gm.
On Bnet i'm a schizo. Bm in UMS and 3v3. In 1v1 2v2 i almost never bm. I just leave without saying gg if i'm pissed.
If i'm playing with friends or friendly people who chatted with me before the game i say gg even if i'm super pissed.

I think that i bm in UMS and 3v3 just because it makes those maps boring otherwise.
You CANT play a pub phantom without being bad mannered.

That was a really cool read btw

Most people on the internet are teenagers and 20somethings. People tend to do the stupidest things at those ages and don't really mellow out until later. Since the internet offers some anonymity, there aren't that many consequences for your actions (unless you piss off 4chan or something).

Definitely front page material. 5/5

Good manners are a must in almost all situations. Even when against pure trolls and idiots, if one is able to keep his/her composure, then that's the true mark of a well behaved person.

I am always good-mannered, whether in real life or on the internet. People sometimes say "LOL, it`s the internet" when I talk about good manners, but I personally fail to see that as a justification. I mean, there is still a person behind the opposite monitor screen. Does the einvironment in which you are cordial even matter?

Also, people sometimes praise bad-mannered people for their honesty, but I personally think that honesty and good manners are not mutually exclusive. You can express your true opinion without having to resort to insults and outright flaming.

Some people take the internet too seriously.

A bunch of people ask for "bm" anyway. Im always amazed at the koreans who freak out when you leave and dont say gg and then wont re you. As if saying gg is some sort of law. I understand having gg for televised games because then its not like the person just randomly leaves. But online? Come on.

The game was "over" at 15 min but it took you another 27 minutes to finish him off? That doesn't sound like "over" to me and at lot of good comeback games first appeared like that but turned out to be totally different. Unless he was intentionally teasing you in chat etc.

Thank you guys, I hope you will enjoy another set of my blog writings as I really do my best to give community something back in return. Too bad I do this while I'm on my brake from job ( working for an IT magazine (gaming/computers magazine) so I don't fully get into it but that this is for atleast now good read.

I will continue to try integrate my deep toughts of connections between real life things and implementations of it in Starcraft to try help you improve if I can, also I hope you will continue to comment my blog so I can hopefully try to improve some things.

Sorry if there is grammar errors, I am very good english speaker/writer but I just don't have enough time to proofread it all

Thanks again and I will try to do my best in future for sake of community.

I couldn't care less tbh. I'm BM when I lose, because I hate losing. I don't mind people BM'ing me because usually that means I've won, so I'm content with that being the case.

The Caveman effect!

I wonder if BM people have more hair...

I like the ideas in the article, nice development of ideas and well written. :D
This might make some people think again about being bm.

I consider myself gm, and I usually don't care if someone is bm to me. (unless I'm pissed of at something else, then it may bother me)

Look at my sig.

Also, if you're mature there is no point for us to be discussing this, as this should be common sense and part of our unconscious.

However, not everybody is like this so we have to be telling them constantly, but better then having to tell them we should show it to them and not lower to their level. Getting angry over something that in reality is simply something that was created for the purpose of pure entertainment is rather foolish imo.

Thx for the read!

The way I see it, gg-ing is an act of maturity - accepting your loss like a man, and being clear-headed enough to understand that a defeat is a learning experience - yes, even getting cheesed, maybe even more so - there's nothing like a cannon rush to teach you to scout the ramp behind your base on medusa. The same way I don't like playing pool against a twelve-year-old brat, I don't like playing starcraft against people that behave immaturely.

Bm-ing when you're winning is just as bad, because as long as you're not Bisu or Jaedong, you're still a noob relative to other people, and being all cocky just because you're beating someone seems... well, immature again.

Overall, i see people that don't say gg after a game like people you know that don't say hello on the street - not something i'd get mad over, but definitely not a person that's worth my time.

if you play pool vs a brat you have to interact with them (assuming this is irl)

you dont have to hear someone bitch and moan on starcraft or watch their annoying habbits.
