All my life I have been told that engineering would be a great way to go. I figured, what the hell, I'm pretty decent at all the science stuff, so that's what I'll do.
Now here I am after 4,5 years of studying, diploma in hand, best grades in the class and I can't get a job because of the fucking economic crisis.
I've been applying left and right for 8 months now, both unsolicited and as a response to job adverts, but I just can't seem to get through anywhere.
Just yesterday I spoke with one of my old classmates, and found out that I am now the last one to go without a job. I am now officially losing hope and starting to doubt the quality of my applications and resumé, although I have only received positive critique from consultants. I feel like complete and utter shit. And I don't even like engineering.

engineering on what? House building, heating systems, computer, etc?
I don't know how you picked what to study but I did how people get out of business life (more people retiring etc)
I choosed HVAC engineering.

also, don't compare yourself to your classmates, they probably thought "man, Blyf got the best diploma, I'll never achieve as much as he does"

did you consider working out of the country? from what i read, the need for people with any kind of engineering degree is higher than ever in germany, theres like a lecture every week at our school, held by some professor from universities all over europe, telling us engineering is the way to go these days.

You are not alone, I'm currently like shit as well. No offense to my old classmates but I'm a little smarter than them but they already established good careers for themselves. Fucking hell, should have never quit my last job.. stupidest shit I've done in my life.

I like StarCraft! 
Apart from that I guess I also like some of the stuff associated with engineering. For example user oriented product design (a bit narrow ehh?). But getting a job in that business requires years of experience.
And thanks for nice words, it actually warmed a bit.

Global Business Engineer is the proper name. It's basically a mechanical engineering degree topped off with language, economics and marketing.

For an engineering education, I think this was pretty enjoyable. It's the job seeking afterwards that is a bitch.

it sucks man, people of every vocation are having a hard times finding jobs. two of my friends have been job hunting for over 6 months without any results.

How intelligent you think you are has very little to do with your career really, you cant expect to have a good career without social skills, networking skills, while you were playing SC, maybe the others were out talking to companies, getting profiled, I'm on my third year, and I'hve already worked for two companies within my field, one of which is one of the biggest in the world in the field. I'm planning a trip to visit another company in the next coming weeks, and I'm dragging along several other students, since I think it would be beneficial for them.
Point is, you gotta get yourself out there much more, even during your studying time, now that's a bit late, but this is no time to get pissed because you believe you are smarter than everyone else, newsflash: EVERYONE THINKS THEY ARE SMARTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE.
Also damn you, I thought this was about Crisis the game.
tl;dr: Work abroad if you cant find any work.
