So I learned today that I'm probably the ONLY guy in my whole circle of friends(mostly asians) who likes Kpop.My favorites are SNSD and DBSK. Not a big fan of Big Bang though.(meh) Anyways with my newfound assurance that I'm a kpop fan and none of my guy friends are I wear this tag proudly and am not ashamed This love for Kpop comes after a post era of American rock and Jrock. Uverworld, Girugamesh, Linkin Park( before Minutes to Failnight came out) Alice Nine, and Incubus were all up there. Till my realization that " hey Kpop maybe plastics and dancing but aren't alot of girls into it? So thus I listened to it. Now me being very critical of peoples voices after the Jrock era of my life I noticed that, Kpop singers had pretty amazing voices, now disregard the fact that during concerts and shows they lip sync from time to time but hey, you wanna try executing advanced dance choreography while trying not to strain your throat and not be in an upright position to project your voice the whole performance and make it suck? Did not think so. Anyways, I was impressed and thus my love for Kpop stands. If this was a bad blog, I'm terribly sorry, Kpop > Loli. This has been a first blog and I'm proud of it.
Actually, let me amend that statement. All pop is bad, including the stuff in other countries, but it seems like the only music that we see from Korea that's not a rap group is a bunch of fake women who would sound terrible if their songs were actually performed live. I can get behind liking a group like Epik High but I simply can't understand people who like music that is clearly not "real" but is instead a carefully produced product that would be impossible to recreate at any live event.
Hahaha I get what you're saying about the whole fake and live performance thing completely, I respect DBSK and Epik High over other groups BECAUSE they can perform great lives. Although since I like a part of kpop I might as well like the whole.
what's the difference between hyori and britney spears? snsd and pussy cat dolls? epik high and black eyed peas? rain and neyo?
pop is pop wherever you go. the only thing i find unique about kpop to other pop is that kpop has seriously perfected the commercial formula for pop. more members in groups = more eyecandy and less musical merit required (rofl, i saw a clip of super junior (i think) and they have like 15 members each singing like two lines)

pop is produced for the general public. its ear candy (though one could argue that it's starting towards eye candy nowadays..) for the sake of profit. to say all pop is bad is pushing it, but its good for what they set out to do.
also, rating music on what is performed live is utter bs. live is good in its own, but its hardly the defining standard for music.
carefully produced products have long been the masterpieces of any real artist. the ability to do shit on the fly is a style in its own.
hi five although people in my group who aren't aware of asian culture at all think the snsd wallpapers i have on my phone are my 'hot asian girlfriends' lol

Agreed on all counts. KPop just seems to be better at what it is supposed to do than others. In that sense, it is more "honest" as it doesn't feign artistic credibility. It does not pretend that it is more than what it really is: ear-candy, eye-candy into a polished commercial package. I've never had anything against this kind of "honest" pop.
At the same time, I also hope your tastes are not limited to KPop. There is much real music to explore, especially in the classical tradition.

I cannot understand why people keep calling KPop bad music just because it doesn't fit their taste. There are lots of good songs out there, and many korean groups have incredibly talented singers. One can't deny that!
I like some kpop...I don't like a whole lot. I wish Korea had a bigger and more easily accessible indie and rock music scene (it's almost impossible to hear anything about it from outside the country...actually it's nearly impossible from within the country too...).
I really don't like how commercial-popular-dance-fucking-club-music it all is, and how fucking much the music relies on annoying fucking hooks that make me want to rip my fucking hair out...I don't like how they market the groups so much based on appearance and not as much on music...I don't like how the performers are only performers...I doubt many of them have written even one song that's been released unadulterated, etc.
I could go on and on. The rest of the world isn't much better off, but they benefit from having more genuine music floating around as well. Korea doesn't have a huge independent music scene... ):

what the fuck. did you just compare epik high to black eyed peas? i'm a fan of both (huge fan of epik high), but their musical style is completely different. what the fuck?

Dealing with that rock/indie scene of korean rock bands.. Nell and Vanilla Unity are pretty well set
Any koreans here keeping up with the drama of 'Jay' from 2PM? He wrote some stuff wayyy back in like 06 about korea being gay, and now koreans are like 'omg he thinks korea is disgusting' and kept wanting him out of the country.
So now some other member of his group asked him to leave, and he also left korea and is currently in Seattle US.
Kinda sad, some blogger on missyusa or something even wrote(not verbetum but something along these lines), 'if he kills himself I'm sure people will forgive him'.
Sorry if my following of this story is a bit off, I just listen to what my mom tells me while I'm eating lol.

He was just a pussy who couldn't stand media bash.
Yes, it's kinda ridiculous that all those stupid fan girls are bashing him, but at the same time, I don't feel sorry for the guy.
