Seriously there is nothing wrong with the way TL looks. It might look 'crappy' but its has fitted the site perfectly and if people are scared away by something as superficial as that I seriously dont give a shit about them not hanging around. Its the same as people saying they didnt wanna give sc a shot because the graphics were bad. Jeez.
FTW.
I like the way TL looks forum-wise more than any other I've visited. Lets keep it this way.

I personally can't stand the forum page. It's just a sea of black text on a light grey background. The different forums merge together, and stickies merge with non-stickies. Just simple shading following the rest of the site's color scheme makes it a lot more readable in my opinion. It doesn't have to be exactly like this, but open this and the current forum view in two tabs and compare the difference:
It's much easier on my eyes with the colors separating the different sections.
On an unrelated matter, there's way too many stickies in SC2. Six stickies and four non-stickies in the forum view looks funny.
Aside from all that, when the site is redesigned, or goes through changes like when we added the gradients to the borders, we need to remember one thing most gaming sites overlook: You need black text on a light grey background for a site to be usable for long periods of time (like it is right now). Dark colors and dramatic contrast (especially light text on dark background) strains your eyes and just makes me not use a site. I'm sure whoever changes anything already knows this, I just wanted to repeat it as long as I was posting a suggested change.
EDIT: now animated:

Why do you want to keep a design that looks pre-1999? Are you afraid that a re-design would utterly destroy TL, attract superficial people or what? Design does also address the structure of the website, the links, sections etc but apparently the evolutionists are too few.
Then, there is the issue of updating the visual elements of the site. Did you find the Razer TSL website too fancy? Or barfed out? It was clean and simple but did look way fresher. Personally, I don't think websites such as gg.net (ugly), mymym (overload) or the likes are the way TL should look like. I guess the main issue is evolution instead of revolution. TL grows, adds content, creates the TSL and we will see what comes next, so thinking about the layout, design, structure to be adjusted to future demands is not a bad thing.
The TL look-and-feel is something very special and everybody is used to but that doesn't mean that the current (visual) design should be set in stone. In my opinion there is definitely room for improvement.

Yea i completely agree, keep the site structure the same but just improve the visuals. Like I said before a high res banner would look much better.
wow that looks good

I've never understood when people said TL was ugly or whatnot, it's been my homepage for close on five years now, and i personally think it looks topnotch.

Yet the site navigation and organization definitely needs improvement imho. But that's only me. So basically, what Kennigit said.
True. Even if more navigation options are needed, they can be added without actually changing the design, e.g. by using drop-down menus.
The design of a site is not just eye-candy but also a message of what kind of site it is. For instance, when I see TL, I think that this site is about content, not pretty graphics, etc. It has a simple and intelligent layout that is easily navigated, the colour-scheme is easy on the eyes and makes reading it ... easy.
The only thing that needs a redesign here is the VOD tracker, as it looks like it is a work in progress. Beyond that... maybe some new thread icons that better indicate the state of the thread (sticky, locked, popular, etc) and the high res. banner would be nice too.

I hate the current design of TL. It is horribly difficult to find what you are looking for and I rarely use the site of the same reason. Just logging in to make this post took me 30 sec to find where they have put the login. There are way too much information spread across the page and the eyes get lost in it immediately. Often I go here for a piece of news, spend like a minute desperately navigating around trying to find it, and then leave the page to google it in stead.
I would hope that TL would get reshaped by an actual professional web designer one of these days. As of now its almost as bad as Clanbase and the ESL site to view :S

:O Lovin' that main page, Noam. Looks great!
As for GEKKO's "feedback", I personally really like TL's design. It could be viewed as "archaic", but we're in an era where most video game fora have black-on-black color schemes and/or massively annoying avatar and signature permissions; TeamLiquid really is a breath of fresh air from all that. It's not at all difficult to find anything you could possibly need in a span of several minutes, either.
I think the problem is with you, good sir. I mean no disrespect, of course, but if hundreds of thousands of users visit TeamLiquid every day with seemingly no complaints, then maybe you're the one who needs to brush up on their browsing skills.
Can you give me an example of what sort of news or information you've attempted to find, and gave up in favor of Google? I've only been in very few situations where I couldn't find exactly what I wanted to find within a couple of minutes at most, and that's because I don't know the website inside and out like a coder or an admin would.

Weird, I've never had this experience of TL. It's quite possible that that's just because I spend a ridiculous amount of time browsing TL without actually posting. To address your more specific points:
1. Just logging in to make this post took me 30 sec to find where they have put the login
I think I fail to understand this particular grievance; were you unable to find the login bar at the top left? It's been there for some time. It was recently changed somewhat, I believe, but nevertheless Occam's razor should of told you to check there first anyway.
2. There are way too much information spread across the page and the eyes get lost in it immediately.
Not if you know what you're looking for, or what you typically look for. Often, the New Threads page can be helpful if you just logged on and want to catch up. If there are any other significant pieces of news, they're not hard to find in the Community News section or, if they're not confirmed/rumors, maybe in the SC2 general section.
If the piece of news you were looking for was older than easily findable in community news/top of SC2 general, then searching for some key words should help, but using the search engine well comes with experience, too.
