I was just wondering about the ELO system? I think this is potentially a really powerful aspect of TLPD, but I'm not sure it's working correctly, unless there's something I don't understand. The lowest player, pokju, is almost 1900. Is there a way to adjust the formula to get a better range? Even players who lose more than they win are way above 1600, which I thought was the starting level. Again, I'm not an expert in ELO, I just know that in Chess at least all of these people would be super high rated.

It starts at 2000. It could probably stand to be tweaked, given that it varies no more than 15%, but I don't know all that much about ELO either.

We're using 2000 as the starting level (as gravity suggested to me iirc). Should we change?

Also, K (the ELO formula constant) currently equals 40 if one of the players has played less than 20 games, and 20 otherwise.

Oh no, that makes sense. Maybe just somehow increasing the range might make it more differentiated or something. It would just be nice to feel like the top people were waay higher than the bottom people, because just in terms of pure feeling, 1890 doesn't feel THAT different from 2200

I could see it varying maybe 50% more (1800-2500), but really, the skill levels in pro BW don't vary all that much. The top 4-5 are better than anyone else, but they're far from unbeatable.

Also, worse players play far less games. I'm not sure what effect this has on ELO, other than that the numbers won't go very low.

The game count can still spoil a bit though (like, if there are only 3 games in a bo5). This will be fixed once games can be grouped into matches/series.

I'll just put this here since it involves tlpd and I know PoP reads this:

When thinking about liquibet, I constantly click on "stats," intuitively thinking that this link will take me to TLPD where I can look at a breakdown of the player's performance. Instead it takes me to the liquibet stats, which aren't as helpful. Since they may be helpful for some people, though, would it be possible just to add a TLPD link there in addition? It would make it much easier, where now for each player I have to open a new tab, navigate to tl.net and search for the name. Just an idea. Thanks!

lol you must have tried to click stats on new/unknown players only or something, because 95% of the "stats" links do point to the TLPD. The ones who don't will need be updated (this is because Liquibet is totally disconnected from the player database right now).

On the Team League page, the Shinhan Proleague Round 2 is listed as the year 1999 so it gets thrown to the bottom.

Updates:
1. RSS feeds now available on game lists (overall game list, player's game list, league's game list, map's game list). Spoiler-free versions available too.
2. Leagues are now associated with their main TL thread (unless we forgot to link them).
3. Player's profile can now display the whole list of leagues players participated in (not only the ones where they finished top-3).

Maybe users with 1000 posts can edit it, as to take some of the responsibility off of the admins, and if you make it here with 1000 posts your probably not going to try to fuck with somethign and get a ban. Plus it would mean more frequent updates.
