I mean it's competing with sOs vs ByuN, Trap vs Dark/Rogue and the hilarious, but still ridiculously one-sided Maru vs Zest I mean I love ByuN so I might be biased, but I don't see how a 4-1 TvP is worse than a 4-0 mirror, even if TvT is the most tolerable one. Rogue/Trap, now that was a shit final, and possibly worse than this one. ByuN - sOs was extremely one-sided and TvP was already terrible, but I wouldn't say it was a terrible series either yeah both finals lost by Trap vZ were boring and horrible, honeslty even the Dark one was sad

I think that you can't judge the WoL games with 2020 hindsight; you have to look at them with the meta and general level of play at the time in mind. I have much higher expectations watching GSL S1 2020 than rewatching some 2011 match. Also, WoL gave us Leenock-jjakji, which is still the best GSL Finals that I've seen Sure it's easy to shit on WoL games with the benefit of a decade of hindsight, but I remember that even at that time, gsl finals being terrible was literally a meme because of how bad and noncompetitive the games were compared to everything else. I agree with Leenock-jjakji being an incredible finals though.

Cure definitely didn't look good this series, but that also makes it three in a row where we're saying that TY's opponent looked bad. It's also because TY makes them look bad, and because his preparation gives him leads which force opponents to do high risk moves.

I think very high preparation time definitely tends to generate bad series. High preparation builds usually don't normally produce great games due to their extreme nature, they generally stomp or get stomped. This is not very different from the reason why teamkills are very often terrible and gimmicky. So in the end it's not that surprising if good GSL finals are more the exception than the norm.

That would affect the semis and Ro8 just as much, and those see good series much more regularly than the GSL finals. That's true, there has to be something more. But it definitely has an impact, weekenders deliver far more memorable series than GSL imo. btw no one can find that GSL finals power rank ? gotcha ! https://tl.net/forum/starcraft-2/438145-gsl-finals-retrospective-part-1-23-8 https://tl.net/forum/starcraft-2/439780-gsl-finals-retrospective-part-2-7-1
