Greetings TL!
There have been some issues surrounding the release of SC:Remastered. I would like to use this thread to document known issues, possible fixes or workarounds, and to generally rant and rave about stuff in one, all-inclusive area.
Good Things:
-HD graphics and resolutions look great and work well. (I have heard that the game eats up alot of resources in HD but I didn't notice anything)
-Matchmaking: Does seem to work as intended for the most part. Can search and find games.
-Still Broodwar: The underlying mechanics and gameplay are still intact.
-Hotkey UI: Awesome
-UI in general: I love the refresh button in the custom games lobby and chat channels seem to work and have people in them for the most part.
My Issues:
-Game does not save user settings: HD graphics, Pre-order skins (on/off), game timer etc.
-Ladder: Records not displaying, games not registering, people not being able to view the ladder or their own games, long wait times for games via matchmaking. All of these issues seem to be legitimate problems that many people are encountering.
-No player profiles or portraits.
-No team game ladders (2v2, 3v3, 4v4) They are coming tho! Confirmed.
On August 18 2017 07:19 TheNewEra wrote:Source -Chat channels: Joining/leaving channel while finding a match kicks you from game. Other than that they seem to work properly.
-Hotkeys can only be changed in the initial start menu.
-UI in general: When I search for a ranked game it seems kind of bare bones. After the game pops there are nicer graphics and portraits but hitting "Join" to search for a ladder game felt empty.
-Streaming functionality. There is no Blizzard streaming as of yet, however SC:Remastered does seem to work with OBS. There are still resolution problems when streaming.
On August 21 2017 03:17 wishbonesaka wrote: Has anyone figured out how to change the resolution of StarCraft Remastered?
I currently am trying to stream, however it lags my PC when I hit "start streaming". I can still stream on iCCup at 640x480 resolution with no lag. I tried to use obs for SC:RM and noticed the resolution is quite high: 1680x1050 which is the same as my Desktop resolution. -Random disconnects and errors when searching for a match.

I love Starcraft. I will continue to play and hope that at least some of the issues I've discovered or run into will be addressed.
If anyone has any fixes, updates, workarounds or other issues that I'm unaware of, please share them!
Possible Fixes/Help/Edits
-Known issues: https://us.battle.net/forums/en/starcraft/topic/20758517787
-Forward ports 6112-6119 if you are experiencing lots of lag during your games. Especially for big team games or games with observers.
-Hit "F5" to set it to HD when first logging in.
-Clicks not registering. (Might be a design flaw of the engine, was present in Broodwar)
-Your ladder game will not register if it is your first game or you are playing against an opponent who is playing their first game. You still see your rating increase/decrease after the game so I wonder if it still tracks the MMR and is a visual problem? More info as it becomes available.
***Latest Patch Notes!***

Team ladder games didn't exist in the past. Other servers, like Fish Server provided a 2v2 ladder though.

There's a lot of blank spaces in the ladders so I'm sure team ladders are coming soon enough.

"-UI in general: When I search for a ranked game it seems kind of bare bones. No sounds when I hit "join", no real notification when the game pops and it's difficult to even tell what race you've selected. This part of the whole UI really bugged me because it feels incomplete and thrown together in a hurry."
What? when you search for a game on the matchmaking, there is a sound when you find a player, and a big vs screen with 3D models of an Hydra, Zealot or Marine, depending on the race to chosed, also your nick and your opponent's nick displayed below the 3D models

I dont think the sound plays when you are tabbed out, but you are correct! I wasnt very clear. I meant when youre about to hit "Join" for a ladder game; the selector box around the three races.

Performance issues and SC1 should not be a thing

Will there be 2v2 or larger matchmaking?
Yes. Timeline is dependent on getting current implementation of 1s stable and confidence in the rating system

I was surprised when I read that there were performance issues! I'm lucky enough to have a pretty nice PC at the moment and didn't even consider how taxing the game might be to run.

I'm not one for team games to begin with but as someone who admittedly knows nothing about programming I just thought that creating a 2v2, 3v3 search function would be super easy for them.
Maybe that's why I'm so salty about this release. I imagine that Blizzard can literally do all of this stuff very easily when it might actually be alot harder than I originally thought?

I just hope they fix inputs not registering when you klick fast. Like when you click 1a2a3a it does not register you switching control groups if you still have the mouse pressed down. I'm sure some bw purists would say that's a "feauture" though.

What about just using the old Wc3 Battle_net System. For it was perfectly fine, it had so many nice features: Detailed, but important statistics, Clan-system, etc... It was a pleasure to use for the eye AND the ear. Imo it was much better than sc2 battle.net 2.0.

it probably has to do with all the old legacy code they're trying not to tamper with too much
|
I just went to load up scr and i had to do an update. blizzard finally fixed my hd graphics. Every time i tried to turn them on, the entire game would crash and I had to file a bug report. Kudos to blizzard for fixing it faster than I expected. Still lots of other bugs though.

In terms of chat channels, why aren't we thrown into some lobby as soon as we log in with the hundreds plus (thousands?) else who are online?
I agree it's not as communal as I'd expected.

The profiles are all sorts of bungled at the moment, portraits, APM count etc. More ladder games seem to be registering now for whatever reason at least.

From what I've seen/heard, they've had a hard time working with the source code that is almost 20 years old. The engine is a bunch of workarounds on top of workarounds to achieve the desired effects you see in-game, so tampering with one thing can have undesirable side effects somewhere else. This is evident for example when they tried to fix dragoons getting stuck and the valkyries stop attack glitch, but they had to revert it because it affected unit behavior in other parts of the game (this was at the beginning of 1.18). Maybe it is too much to ask them to remake the game from the ground up without affecting the gameplay, so they HAVE to stick to the old engine and this makes it hard to exact changes.
Also, they recently said that they are changing things server side you will see differences in profiles, mmr changes, matchmaking, etc. without them rolling out a patch as a physical indication that things have changed.

When you join a custom game, the default race is Terran. It used to be Random before (pre-1.19). It's a nuisance.

I'm loving SC:R it's absolutely amazing.
issues -
Defaults being reset, need to hit f5 to make HD every time I log in as well as turning music off.
When dragging the mini map to the right side of the map there is dead space where the cursor can't go further. On the left side this distance is less and is almost flush against the edge.
even in SC:R beta the mini map let your drag your mouse all the way to the edge of the mini map.
Cloaked units are still too invisible. Lag still seems to be occurring more so than past battle net. Probably due to L2 latency which is better than old bnet. I think most using don't have UPnP enabled in their routers.

The team game thing is more complicated than you think because there are more players involved, more ratings to track, and most importantly a UI for supporting group queues.

It's the same as classic Bnet. You start in a local country channel. Each time I log on there are at least 20-25 people in a random Brood War USA-# channel. And there are plenty of people chatting.
As for my own SC:R experience, I discovered that most of my games with multiple players were laggy. Really laggy. I thought the connectivity problems would have been resolved through the addition of UPnP in 1.18a, but maybe that actually got rolled back? I actually had to go into my router settings and forward ports 6112-6119 to my IP on the network, and then all the lag problems went away. This may not affect you in 1v1, but it will be a big help in larger games (including games with observers). Forward ports 6112-6119 to your computer!

Cheers for this!
Noticed I was in a Spanish channel, due to living in Spain when I bought WoL years ago and I suppose Battle.net storing all of my info. Typed in a CAN-# channel where I am now living and things aren't quite as lonely!
For the record, only started playing online today and the game seems to be storing all of my losses just fine as far as ladder goes. Haven't been grinding games unlike others though so who knows!

I really like the look of the WC3 menus and their functionality but I don't know if I would say they are better than SC2's. The biggest problem with SC2 was the chat channel system made it feel like there was no community and I hated that. Even when I joined big channels like Day9 or Husky back in the day it felt empty.
I love the style and look of the Broodwar menus and UI. Holds a lot of nostalgia for me.

Great info, thanks! I hope to see changes soon and it must have been really difficult to work with the old engine and code. There was an awesome article written by one of the original devs on how Starcraft 1 was originally made: http://www.codeofhonor.com/blog/tough-times-on-the-road-to-starcraft. It's a great and interesting read.
