How to keep minerals low in zvt?

I can macro like a beast in zvp and keep both my minerals and gas low. But I just can't figure out how to keep my minerals low in zvt. I know I should throw down some hatches if I use up all my larva constantly and still have an excess of minerals but I never see the pros do it. Everytime I go 3 hatch mutas, I always have like 1200 minerals and 900 gas by the time my spire is complete. This is even after I throw down a hatchery at my expansion!! Maybe it's because I power too many drones? (But Chill told me to do that in his fpvods!!!!!) I can't can't for the life of me figure out how the pros manage to keep their minerals so low in zvt. I tried my best to macro, but even if I use up all my larva on lings and overlords, I still get more minerals than I can use. Should I just throw down some extra hatcheries and act like it's a zvp? Help please.

Its because you have a bad build order, or you dont adapt. Also, your units will be more gas intensive than in a zvp, so try to compensate for that.

Top pros do do that. July for one has done it before. Just make sure you have the economy to support it and that you are not over extending yourself.
