Colorado 6-Year-Old Suspended for Kissing a Girl

A 6-year-old boy has been suspended from a Colorado school for kissing a girl on the cheek.

School officials in Canon City are accusing the boy of sexual harassment and they want it on his school record.

The boy's mother tells KRDO-TV ( http://tinyurl.com/lyhxh7l ) her son was suspended once before for kissing the girl and had disciplinary problems, but the girl did not object to being kissed.

A School District RE-1 official says the repeat offenses meet the school policy definition of sexual harassment and they hope the tough standards will force the boy to change his behavior.

There's a lot of things in the news that can anger you. But like me, most you just read the news and move on. However, I ran into this news story today and it made me furious. I remember stories of how my sister always got caught kissing a boy in kindergarten and the teachers always told my mom and laughed about it. I remember being 5-6 myself and running through the playground and girls would chase me and kiss me to give me cooties. Well apparently this is an act of harassment and needs to be disciplined. Since it's a "policy" of the school could I even do anything to revert the charges given to this kid? It's times like these where I feel helpless.

Oh, come on. That is probably just a silly school-specific policy or an "unwritten" rule

Im glad I didnt go to that school. We did a lot more than kissing in kindergarden.

How is it possible that adults be as stupid as this to take such silly decisions? As long as it's not against the will of the girl there is nothing to punish here, it's not even sexual it's a cheek kiss, kids do that all the time, there are also many places where young kids kiss people on lips to say hello ...

Schools in general are becoming like prisons. A kid in Canada died recently because the school had his inhaler locked in the principals office and he wasn't allowed to have one on him. No charges will be laid on the principal or administrative staff of course, no one will even be fired for letting a kid die while at school in a completely preventative way. Source

He's fucking 6, jesus (yeah stuff like this burns me up too). I remember towards the end of my high school years physical contact between boys and girls was banned as well. Officially it was anyway, not like it was enforced of course.

What's next though, suing toddlers for assault when one kid bullies another out of his toy? Worlds crazy.

Schools have always been like prisons :/ Just as Foucault.

But concerning this anecdote, please do not hype it up to be a story of reactionary values taking over society, this is just a single incident in a country of 300 million.

As an educator, I'd like to say that this school's disciplinary action- including the suspension, let alone the accusation of sexual harassment- is absolutely absurd, angering, and detracts from any sort of education that the school should be focusing on.

Three words: He's fucking six.
