The UC Davis StarCraft Club is pleased to announce our Spring Book Drive Open StarCraft 2 LAN Tournament 2012!
After our enormously successful Fall LAN 2011 and MLG Winter Arena BarCraft, we are excited to continue our quarterly LAN tournament tradition this spring while also giving back to the community.
We are hosting a $1,000 64-player 1v1 Double Elimination Tournament on May 5, 2012! In order to both promote the Collegiate eSports scene while attracting professional and aspiring gamers alike, we are also hosting a 1v1 consolation tournament and a 2v2 tournament starting later in the day. A single ticket will grant entry into all three tournaments!
We will be coordinating a Book Drive integrated into our tournament registration process in partnership with the Worldwide Book Drive organization. For players and spectators alike raffles, contests, and social activities will be ongoing throughout our tournament, so everyone attending can enjoy their time in-game and out!
Date: Saturday, May 5th, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. (PST)
Location: UC Davis Visitor and Alumni Center [Map]
Cost: A $5 online donation ($7 at the door) will grant you entry into all three tournaments. A book donation can be exchanged for full access to lunch food and drink. Donate a second book and dinner is free as well! Those wishing to spectate will not be charged an entry fee, and may come and go as they please.

Main Tournament
The main tournament will consist of a double elimination 64-player 1v1 bracket. Each round will be a Bo3 until the semi-finals, where rounds will continue as Bo5. Competitors of any rank will be welcome to give the tournament a try, and players advancing to the Ro8 will win tiered money and prizes depending on their final placement.
Consolation Tournament
Because it sucks to be knocked out of a LAN early, we will be hosting an additional 1v1 tournament with a smaller prize pool later in the day. This will be a second chance for many of the competitors who hit an unlucky string of matches and still have more to show. Prizes will include coaching sessions from our schools aces such as ruxin, Tbeezy and Spanishiwa, as well as gaming gear, gift cards and swag.
2v2 Tournament
There will be an additional 2v2 tournament hosted at this LAN. Compete against the 2v2 beasts DnXGuruLegit and Speece in a separate event with its own set of prizes. In order to prevent scheduling problems, the 2v2 tournament will only be open to those players dropping out before the Ro8 in the 1v1 tournaments.

CSL Playoffs
Should UC Davis continue its undefeated streak (and you can bet that we will), attendees will have a chance to witness firsthand our road to the finals. During the lunch break of the LAN we will play our Collegiate StarLeague games live as we battle it out to become the Western Division Champions.
Book Drive
We are looking for a chance to help have an impact on the rest of the community, and what better way to do that than with a book drive? All books collected during the LAN will be donated to the Worldwide Book Drive. And don't forget, anyone who brings a book will get a discount on their lunch and dinner tickets, so come with with a book and help children around the world.
"Unused books destroy the environment and are a failed opportunity to promote literacy. Every year, the extra work and expense of processing and distributing used books drives millions of pounds of used books to landfills or corrosive storage units. In these places, the books become a detriment to the environment. And moreover, the loss of these books prevents them from being used to help battle worldwide illiteracy.
Today, WBD has developed a streamlined system for the collection, resale and donation of needed books to qualified organizations promoting literacy. Just as John and Dave first envisioned, WBD now has the infrastructure and the model to donate hundreds of thousands of books a year."
