I thought I'd just do a little self-promotion here because although the link to my maps is in my sig, people in general rarely click on it, and if they do, they don't comment. Well, uh, here you go.
Nightlight
This is my newest map. Um, yeah. I like it. It's cool and stuff. I like the name too because it's a twilight and there's a little light thing in the middle. lozl
Fall of Aiur 1.2
I went for something more orthodox on this one. I sort of like it. It's just a bit boring I guess.
Perception 1.2
This is my most confusing map. I think it looks really cool and it brings original ideas to the playing field. It's probably pretty imbalanced though.
Technetium
This is the map I submitted into the map contest back in November. A lot of people seemed to like it... I don't think I do anymore though.
Anyway, all the maps can be downloaded at http://freewebs.com/leetmaps , my site. Feel free to comment on whatever. Bye.

There we go. I kinda assumed freewebs allowed direct linking

wow all these maps look cool. dunno about the balance ... but im not really a balance freak unless its totally unplayable or obviously titled towards a single race. Except islands ;-]
I wonder why all Space installation maps all look the same tho :-/

i like the naturals and the middles in all of these. they're very thoughtful. i cant speak on their fairness but they're definitely in the right direction. these are all interesting original maps that are worth improving (if anyone thinks they need it). i wouldn't mind playing on any of them

your maps are bad, and you should feel bad
on an actual note, the ramps on your space maps' mains aren't really balanced, but nice maps
Edit: I moved the apostrophe over to the right because Empyrean is having some real trouble understanding it.

There are two space maps.
Way to put thought in your post.

I love the last one, seems very balanced, and looks great.

Yeah, Fall of Aiur is pretty boring, but you'd be surprised how many people would pick that as their favorite simply because they're used to it. I guess you think it's amateurish because you're looking at it from a map maker's point of view (and in that case I agree with you), rather than a player's point of view. Perception is the opposite. It's cool from a map maker's point of view but from a player's, it's stupid.
Also, I honestly don't understand what people see in Technetium. It looks pretty cool the first time you look at it, however, as far as my map making skills go, Technetium was made when I was a little nub map maker. It's weird, because most people consider it my best map. To me, it seems too plain and open to be any fun. I dunno why I'm dissing my own maps. I'm rambling a lot. asdfghjkl;'

still wonder what rose.of.dream said about it (techneticum)? you did win the competition didnt you?
|
Did the competition ever even finish? I wasn't around during the final days of it but from what I remember there was a whole TL.net staff starleague thing going on that never finished and the whole thing just kinda dissolved. If it did finish then I must not have won because I received no notice of anything.

Whatever u say I like Technetium the best. I don't like Fall of Aiur, especially the damn terran islands where tanks can siege them from the lower ground or burrow lurks to kill probes.

I put the apostrophe in the wrong spot, I mean for both maps.
The ramps on your space maps' mains aren't really balanced.
Better?

No, because now I'm not sure if you mean they are balanced, or aren't balanced.

That typo is fixed too, now.

Due to my error on not clarifying the "end vote" time of midnight as on U.S. PST, and also because the votes for the top maps were so close, we will be accepting 4 maps as finalists to be played in the staff tourney. The maps are: Shooting Star Download Melee Download Obs
OntheRocks Download Melee Download Obs
Technetium Download Melee Download Obs
Bhekar Ro Revival Download Melee Download ObsCongratulations to the finalists, and a heartfelt thanks to everyone who submitted maps for this excellent competition, even the designers who were disqualified for technical reasons. The TL.net staff all look forward to playing these maps in a tournament setting and we will be posting results and replays (only the worthy ones :-P) for your viewing pleasure. EDIT: Map Designers PLEASE PM me download links to melee AND OBS versions of your maps. Also please make modifications ASAP if there are problems with your maps, as we want to play on the most polished product possible. As always, GG GL HF!!!
Right, TL.net chose among the top 4. Im not gonna reveal my opinion on the matter, but from those 4 maps it feels like they made the choice easy, even though that map didn't win the poll. I really believe they made a mistake putting the author names on the maps. It called for unequal voting since most of the voters definitely didnt play them, and most of them probably didnt even have a look.
It still was a very fun competition, and knowing the wrongs and rights made, the next competition may be even better.
